I never did put anything on there due to what I mentioned back then.

Guess it is time to order the 2013 Photographers Market book. This does not look good. The old slippery slope argument.

If they need more money.. do like regular people and cut back on Charitable Contributions and use that money elsewhere.

Sort of parallels the Rodenberry theory for Star Trek. People love what they do, a money system is abolished and people work for the advancement of humanity. Sounds utopian and very nice.

« on: October 06, 2012, 13:50 »
Thanks. I got some of my accounts set up... google and facebook. Basically my Brother is not a tech guy but loves his since he does a lot of online business and such. Now I got mine so trying to get immersed in parts of the whole mobile thing. I still love computers. The phone is just convenience when I am away from the 'puter.

It will take me some time to figure out which pre-loaded apps I need to keep and which to remove. Got Netflix, Gmail, Facebook, Youtube. Need to get weatherbug, bank, paypal and ebay (if it has one) loaded and then see which ones I may use. I am not sure if I need the forum ones for the forums I do go to. Will see later.

« on: October 06, 2012, 07:49 »
I finally moved into modern times and got a Droid based phone. Running Gingerbread version. Does Shutterstock and Alamy have apps that work on this? I know Alamy had the VM Release (something like that), where do you find that?

Any other useful Apps that maybe stock related. Already got some useful apps for welding so I am digging the new phone.

Thanks.

My concept involves 2 goldfish bowls and a large mouth bass. Problem is the bass wont fit in the bowl, much less jump to the other one. Tried emailing Seaworld on how best to do this but they have not replied.  :o

That is pretty sweet. The hood just looks like a horror movie piece.

I can actually imagine a hood that your eyes never see the arc. All view screen on the inside.

1st week down and I am only up to my knees in homework. This friday night class has 2 assignments due by sunday night  on the inter-college online system. Guess I better get to hopping on this stuff if I want some free time this weekend.

I am liking it so far and the Instructors seem to be cool and helpful for everyone.

One week down, 15 more to go for the semester.

Or get a Rockwell hardness tester...  8)

...It's the biggest "never mind" that was ever issued...

istock is good at that. Us vector folks have been getting those neverminds often lately. First it was "No EPS10 files, buyers can't use them", switched to "Nevermind, EPS10 is fine". Last week it was "No text in images, it's a copyright issue," becoming "Nevermind, text is fine."

And on a side note: in 2 months you can submit from MS Paint for illustrations.  ;D

Why Istock? Wasn't it Gettys hiring a photog last year sometime. Forget the sub company... get to the big times  :o  ;D

Just got back from the Quality and inspection class. That teacher is cool as hell. It's going to be a fun class! Maybe that class can qualify me as a Stock reviewer...lmao!!!

The closest thing I've gotten to welding is using an acetylene torch in art school. I built a bird nest out of nails, connected with flux. Is that considered "welding"? Or is there a name for it?

Had a lot of fun doing it, learned quickly that nails break and pop when overheated, and fortunately I was wearing gloves when a piece popped and landed on my wrist.

I was the only person in that class that would use the torch. Think that earned me some bonus points with the teacher, since he was a metal guy. He does those large scale metal sculptures.

And I'll always remember that class a little more than most because that's where I was on 9/11.

That would be Oxy Acetylene Welding basically. You can cut and braze with it too. The main torch we used on jobsites though was Oxy Propane. Guess Propane is a cheaper fuel gas. With metals though, you got to be aware of content. If the nails contained Zinc, it would give off harmful fumes and you should really use a respirator or venting for the fumes before it reaches your face. I had a piece before that I was heating to bend.. propped on a concrete block. The heat traveled and the block popped launching the metal into the air and onto my back where I received a slight burn. I already learned something new about Acetylene last night that I did not know. The reason why an Acetylene tank should not be use until vertical for 4 hours after being stored on its side. I had always just been told not to do it. Never the reason for it. Acetone.

I am really open to learn all the info I can with this... not just the doing part. Job Placement for the Welding Cert course and the AAS is at 100% with this school too. Very nice.

And to note: The Instructor graduated from there in Welding and got his job by request of the Instructor who just retired last year.

I am used to stick welding from my former time as a Millwright. I have had my share of sunburns and flashburn (only once for that.. then I learned...lol). Got all brand new gear now. I have not used it yet but eager to try out the Auto Dark helmet with the wide field of view. I also have a Pipeliners Helmet as a backup but need (or want) some gold lenses for it. Normal Green Jacket then another Jacket with leather arms for vertical and Overhead. I am not sure if they have the Xrays but it is possible since they teach and test for Pipeline Welding certifications.

I only have ot go for an hour today for the Quality and Inspection class. Labs will be Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and the Instructor says in the Cert Course and they AAS Degrees for Welders, we get the most times out of all in the school making sparks. One class has AAS's from others (Auto, Mechanical Engineering and so forth) that just do the general welding. We get general and advanced hence the most time in the booths.

We are dead beside the local airport hangers so down time might mean some photo ops. Will also ask the instructor if I can do some shooting of others welding. Don't have any like that in my port. That reminds me to sometime look through the book to see if there are shots from anyone around here or Alamy.

Not too concerned about it. Just waiting for payout and then dropping them. Got enough money sitting there that I do not want to walk and loose it. Maybe I should write them and see if they would pay me early if I decide to close out.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Stock photos on facebook?
« on: August 27, 2012, 11:56 »
If they really want to steal a photo, we all know where they can go for full sized and full rez. They have at least 1 "Hero" to find them. I can do 600 px on the longest size and my image mark (can't really call it a watermark. Mine is solid and placed in a area that might make it rough for content aware to match up...lol) and save at 6 on quality, they are going to have a rough time making a full size without it pixelating out. They would be better off finding their "Hero" shot or license it legally.

Small size with watermark and low rez so it cannot be blown up without pixelation.

I was trying to get info a long time ago to try the Red Carpet thing... for a WWE Wrestling Event. I got snobbied on just for trying to get contact info as a "freelance photojournalist".

Just now, I got info for a Dragon Boat race in my area and was welcomed with open arms and they are familiar with my work (How? I don't know).

So it can be a hit and miss thing. I aim at smaller events and let the others fight for position at major events. Like the weekend Mumford &Sons (bluegrass music?) was in Bristol, Tn... I knew there were going to be photos and photographers everywhere. That same weekend, I covered a local African American Festival. 3 photographers and 1 news camera getting shots. 1 Photog was for the news, The other guy I don't know but suspect for the Festival Promotion for next year... then me for stock. I had no problem with the Event Coordinators even when they changed their schedule 3 times and I was bugging them with where and what times for certain things. Pick and choose your battles I guess.

Forgot to mention that all of my cars are Editorial on the sites that accept editorial.

Guess I will go that route then and forget about the P.R.'s
