When sales go down, dont fix the blame on Shutterstock only. Maybe the portfolio is out of date by now, which may happen any time.

artwork is not a supermarket product but your opinion seems to sound like one.
what you think is "old" in SS will be NEW in other avenues.

Steve how in the world do you this every month? Make money.  I'm trying to figure out what I am doing wrong.  Most times I make less than a $100 dollars.  Thanks for your monthly charts, it's very inspiring---Oscar Williams
Consistency, long term goal and not listening to the noise. It is stock market investing rule. The same rule applies here. I read about microstock apocalypse since 2011. or 2012. And listening to these "noise" I almost quit few times. Which would be a big mistake. If you are familiar with stock market investing in value stocks, Warren Buffet etc, you know what I mean. There is a stock market crash every few days. You have to sail through these ups and downs, which is much easier if you believe in what you do.

Mat, Adobe could just copy Shutterstock's Catalog Manager. It is so great for tracking statistics. No need for some experimenting or some new thing, just copy it. There I make a folder for each shooting session and track its performance (downloads and earnings). What more can you ask for?

Talshiar, have you ever copied other peoples work? Sometimes it can be a reason, I know many photographers finding their photos being copied in illustrations, and after reporting it to SS, illustrators accounts were closed. Just one of possible reasons, just a guess.

Me neither, I've never criticised him. We know exactly what he achieved and how much hard work is behind his success. It is a tremendous achievement. I was pointing out to the industry as a whole, based on his numbers.
nd3000 made a good point with how agencies need and use new contributors for more profit. But they will not have new contributors ones they get discouraged by these numbers. Kraken images (and me, and many others) was motivated by Yuri's post back in the days about 1000 downloads, it looked achievable. But I'm not (and probably many others, including newbies) motivated by these numbers - you need  1 million images to achieve 1k downloads. In few years time it will be - you need 10 million images for 500 downloads.

Honestly I never knew that having 1k dl's a day was a big thing. I think when I first crossed that mark was 3 years after I started shooting and with around 30k images total in my portfolio. My numbers have dropped by 30% since the change at SS. Adobe started giving away images for free, I wouldnt be so hyped for the future.

Cheers
I also was surprised to see him crossing 1k mark with 1 million images. The times have changed drastically. I now people having double of that with 100k images, working on their own, no teams at all, 5 to 6 years ago. But, they don't anymore. Every year it is more work and more investing for less money. There will always be new generations satisfied with less and less. It is still a lot of money that he makes, actually, really a lot, but there is obviously downward trend that will result in this business being not profitable anymore in the near future.

33
Are they all at 10c?
Probably not. Based on my numbers, and the others, it could be anything from rpi .5$ to $1.
Aaron, how big is your team, what are your monthly costs?

General Stock Discussion / Re: How do you keyword?
« on: October 11, 2020, 03:38 »
Easiest way to keyword - use stocksubmitter (or similar) keywording tools (most of them are based on shutterstock keywording engine). You write keywords directly to metadata and can keyword tons of images in seconds.
When you have some stable income - just outsource it to professionals.
Do you have any recommendations for outsourcing?

This forum has an utility, look https://microstockgroup.com/tools/keyword.php
Does it work for you. I used it for years, but since a half year ago it is not working (doesn't collect keywords after images are chosen). I missed it a lot.
Now I use https://imstocker.com/en/keyworder

Adobe Stock / Re: Payout in Euros to Payoneer
« on: September 28, 2020, 06:02 »
I would love that. But it is still not possible. Some 12 years ago I created Pound account - being European photographer, there even was not euro possibility for me at that time. And since than I am suffering from unfavorable exchange rates and poor 0,75 credits/Pound ratio  :( They refuse to change it although I know it used to be possible. Only solution Adobe offerd me was creating new EUR-based account and start uploading there from scratch. From the first level (emerlald now) with 0 size port... Guys having euros have the most from their images... This from my point of view even surpasses advantages of Payoneer. Think of it - if you have Euro-based account, you receive 20% more than I in UK zone
But if the most of sales are in $ dollars, which I think is the case, since US is the biggest market, all that has to be converted to Euro in my account and the exchange rate is always horrible. Since I want and need dollars I have to make another horrible conversion to dollars again. These conversion rates are so horrible that it sums up to almost 10% for two conversions. When there is an earnings report on Adobe at the end of the month, first thing I do is to take 10% of the sum to get my real earnings. All the kind of taxation, domestic and 30% for US sales (non treaty country), is something I understand, but exchange rates rip off by various banks and online money services is a criminal.

Adobe Stock / Re: Payout in Euros to Payoneer
« on: September 27, 2020, 16:18 »
Hi, I would like to know your experience about payout in Euros to Payoneer in Adobe Stock. I have Paypal account, but i would like to try with Payoneer. My payouts from Adobe Stock are in Euros.
Thanks!

Unfortunately, this can't be done. Payoneer is only available as an option for accounts based outside the United States but paid in USD. Accounts paid in Euro are not eligible for Payoneer access.

Kind regards,

Mat Hayward
Can we change from euro to dollar in our account? We could use Payoneer then and also avoid multiple conversions. Thank you!

How can Lise Gagne have only 17k pictures in her portfolio? Her production sessions are not less than 100-200 pictures, even more. I guess at least 500 images a month. Do these exclusive contributors have multiple portfolios on getty? Some kind of a deal?

Hello, my dear sir, is it easy for me to apply for istock exclusive now, are there any requirements? I heard that the previous requirement was 1000 downloads, what about now?
Yes, it is not fast and easy money.

Sent from my LM-V600 using Tapatalk
It is not required anymore (1000 downloads). However, your portfolio will be reviewed and only if they find it commercial enough you will be accepted. Don't be surprised to be turned down if you don't have people pictures.

I don't know why, my adobe income is very poor. I already have more than 10,000 pictures on adobe, and only more than 100 dollars a month, I am so depressed!
I'm on the fence also. Adobe is not enough to compensate for SS loses. Other agencies are not even worth mentioning. So, it comes down to decision Adobe vs Istock exclusive. It doesn't look like a hard decision at this moment and  in this environment.
If it will make things any easier for you - I'm depressed, too  :)

So, it comes down to decision Adobe vs Istock exclusive.
Adobe does not offer any exclusive programm and going exclusive on one agency without any benefit does not seem ike a smart idea.
I know, that's why I said that it is not hard decision. Adobe, on its own, without exclusivity, can't compete with Getty/Istock. It comes down to Adobe, because other agencies are poor performers and SS did what it did.

Adobe Stock / Re: No sales in August
« on: August 25, 2020, 12:35 »
I've noticed that new files don't sell like they used to until few months ago. It looks like Adobe changed search algorithm also. Too bad because the one before this change was really fair  for new files to get deserved chance to prove themselves. Staying for month in this privileged position, that's what they said on their webinars. I really hope this is not permanent and that they will get back to the previous search algorithm. If they do follow SS path of ignoring new files, I'm really going to lose my last reserves of energy for producing new content. So discouraging.

It really depends on type of the order. if it is a Limit order it won't be sold until the price gets back to the one put as a limit. If it is a Market order it will be executed no matter the price drop. It can also by limited by date. I don't know if this information is public.

123RF / Re: my balance is negative
« on: August 12, 2020, 03:18 »
It's just May that has a zero balance for me too, the rest is fine. They say they are aware of the problem.
This happens at my 123rf account every month at the 1st day - some month have wrong values, sometimes balance is negative, etc.
About a week into the month the number are correct again.

I am sure they are "aware" of it for at least a year ;-)

For me it's usually fixed pretty quickly after the start of the month but it's not been fixed this month. I hardly have any sales there at all otherwise I would be more concerned.

I think OP has a different problem. I experienced something similar last year, there were a lot of refunds of my pictures, I went negative the next month. I was very disappointed because they didn't even bother to inform me about refunds, no emails, nothing. Istock, dreamstime send an email even for 0.3$ refunds. Someone said that they are run on autopilot now, they lost interest in microstock project, put they efforts on another projects. That explains a lot about this falling agency.

First the pump and now the big dump by Mr Oringer. Shutterstock will be sold soon based on this.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/shutterstock-announces-proposed-public-offering-201900037.html
Is it 25% of shares owned by him? This time it is much more than few previous transactions. It is definitely a sign that something big is going on. The question is who is going to buy it?

Jonny is selling more.
https://sec.report/Document/0001179110-20-008739/
He sold 0.5% of his stocks this time. I don't have previous statements archived, but I think he've sold around 2-3% of his assets since March. It is not a big deal, but why now?

85,000 shares at $55 = $4,675,000

What could anyone want with $4.6 million dollars instead of a stock that was trading for $20 less a share in June?  ???

Maybe he's serious about wanting to spread out into new ideas?

He still owns 16,001,327 shares, which is $880 million for a rainy day.

Why not now?  ;D
You are right. The price difference is huge. Of course, it is not fair trading, he is an insider. Uncle Pete, isn't there a law against it in US, how big a trade should be (in percentages) for it to be suspicious trading triggered by insiders information?
