For me XAMPP is the best, i use it for years.
PayPal allows tests, just read their instructions.
BTW, i am not on free solution, but it meets all requirements. There are many other points why i selected commercial platform.

Commercial platforms are determined not all bad. But they can be sold very quickly and that's it then with independence.
For large companies like WordPress and Woocomerce that is probably unlikely.

So Worpress and WooComerce are now running at my XAMPP.
I am now trying to mount a digital product / image in WooCommerce.
I think that I need right next a plug in to do that on Woocommerce.

Selling Stock Direct / Finding the best self hosting setup
« on: May 05, 2015, 11:25 »
I am searching for the best setup for self hosting in the EU.

Requirements:
- stability
- Best available independence
- legal certainty / Vat Solution
- Regular updates
- Free as far as possible

After my previous research meets the following setup the requirements best:

1. Wordpress
2. WooCommerce
3. WooCommerce EU VAT Compliance Plug in

Next, I want the whole test with XAMPP offline on desktop PC.
Does anyone have this setup running or other good alternatives?

Plenty of threads on this forum on alternatives, some from even the last couple of months. Look for self hosting threads.
Why dont you just name them instead of giving people the run around...

Alternative would be interesting.
Wordpress + Woocomerce + free Digital Media plugin + vat plugin.
If there is such a setup we just need a crowd founded searchengine that we can all promote. Somthing like a non profit foundation.
Everyone who wants conected to the searchengine pay a membership fee.

1. You killing the fantastic idea by not supporting any networking features.

He may add them in a later version, and you can still run the older version until he does.

2. You killing the spirit of Symbiostock (free speech and independence) by blocking, ignoring and censoring.

There is no such thing as free speech on a privately owned board. Your rights end when you sign on. He can control what is said and by whom. Can I go onto your site and say anything on your stock site?
3. You killing Symbiostock by claiming Symbiostock is a trademark in your property.

That is is a claim that you have to prove. And if Leo gave him the rights to the name, it is his right to do so.
4. You are a contributor and want only to contribute to your terms?

It is his code and his plugin, and the plugin will work on any other independent site and their is no cost. The hoting is an option that can refuse to do, So why any complaint.
Funny no name/address can be found but the prices for Symbiostock plus are already online.

Can you give me a valid reason, why you require this information?

It may be that you are not a photographer/illustrator but your attention especially is on the monetization?

Funny, you want to use his software for the idea of profit but complain he wants to profit too. That by very definition is a hypocritical attitude.

You have not understood what constituted Symbistock it could have been a revolution! Now it's just your attempt  to make quickly money.
Maybe you should better writing another book...

Your last comment is just an ad hominem fallacy, and shows a lack of character

 ;D

I have no problem with it if someone offers a service to Symbiostock and wants money for it. But Robin claimed in his EULA Symbiostock completely for itself. He wants to offer any service for Symbiostock he wants to be Symbiostock.
Symbiostock was always an open community.
And that is important because it can not be bought by the industry or any agency do close it. For me is therefore important that will clarify whether Symbiostock is a free term. But Robin does not comment on this.

And if I know who he is, I can better assess whether he is a contributor or just a businessman.

Symbiostock is a fantastic idea. When I first found out about it I was blown away that someone had already actuated an idea that was bubbling in my own mind. Why was I interested in it? The same reason as all of you - I am a contributor, and I want to be able to market my images on my terms. This is the primary drive behind both my and Leo's passions towards it.

Robin.

Symbiostock / Re: Introduction and an update on Symbiostock
« on: April 30, 2015, 14:41 »
Crow thank you for your explainations!

This is a good question:
Due to contractual obligations the hosting platform at grfx is indeed for illustrators, and yes probably for those who understand their market.

Thats the point these mysterious obligations. Why signing such a contract?

however, all symbiostock site owners should be concerned about robin's false claim to a trademark for the word 'symbiostock'  - all robin needs to do is change the name - like leo has done with grfx.  then existing symbiostock sites would not need to worry and we can all get on with trying to sell images

It's actually quite simple, either he has a trademark registered or not.
From his behavior (blocking, ignoring, censoring) I conclude that he has no rights for the trademark symbiostock. And as you said Cascoly is the name "symbiostock" in use since a few years and therefore not protectable (i hope!).

And why is Leo leaving Symbiostock and let us photographers alone with this anonymous censoring Robin?

Sorry i can not understood Robin and Leo (in another way) too. There is a bad information management on both sites.

Claim on the symbiostock.org:

"Every capture is your creation.
Take control of your art."

With CENSORSHIP? I think he is killing Symbiostock.

Robin needs to come clean before I even consider trusting him. He needs to start answering some questions to begin with. Before that happens I distrust him.

Totally agree that he should do quickly.

I can certainly understand a wariness on the part of newcomers - but at this time, the symbiostock theme has been proven to be solid after 2 years of testing.  it is still the easiest (and cheapest ) way of adding your own stock site and has the advantage of the symbiostock network of global searches run by ajt and me -- the 'new' symbiostock is unproven and does NOT have a global search, networking function

Yes its unproven but its normal because it new.
We should naturally observe exactly what makes Robin with Symbiostock.

But the old Symbiostock lost a complete year with stagnation instability and blackouts. And i dont know why?

Symbistock.info/old Symbiostock does not bring buyers no wonder it is not at all appealing enough for buyers to be able to keep up with agencies.
I do not need a hobby photosite i want a alternative to the big agencies!
Symbiostock.info/old Symbiostock needs to be further developed. But that does not happen.

So whats better proven stagnation or a new Symbiostock relaunch with a chance to attract buyers?

For me, the developer of the old Symbiostock have demonstrated that they have no idea of marketing or how to address customer/buyers.

I can not judge Robin's up with Symbiostock yet but I will look at it at least.

@Robin

Is Symbiostock now your registered trademark?

Symbiostock / Re: Legacy Symbiostock updates

Of course we dont know who is Robin.

But we know somthing about the "previous developer":
Blackouts, and shut downs in the past. Then Introducing  Robin and relaunching a new Symbiostock.

And now Symbiostock is sold to a unknown trademark holder?

Sorry iam not interested in a next (grfx) adventure.

Symbiostock / Re: Legacy Symbiostock updates
« on: April 25, 2015, 07:54 »
I don't really understand how it came about but obviously the two of them could not agree on the future of symbiostock. The way I understand it is this. Leo gets the software he had been developing to upgrade the original theme for the last year or so and Robin gets the name. Both entities can build off of legacy programming but Leo is contractually obligated not to offer future services to photographers. So this is what I would recommend. If you are legacy site owner and it breaks or you are having problems I think Leo is more than happy to help. If you are an illustrator looking to move forward GRFX is your branch. If you are a photographer looking to move forward then Robin will probably be who you need to deal with.

Both can not act together to bring a good big deal (Symbiostock) forward?
Soon the developers symbiostock have developed quite to death.

a real shame...

Enlightens me who's now actually symbiostock developer?

Leo or Robin or both together?

267
thx ron.

I'm not registered at http://www.ibudgetphoto.com/ so i can not test it.
On STOPshop I luckily can not find any of my images.

268
I activate some of my images 2 months ago to reach the payout limit.

Over a year ago DP confirmed that my Files will removed from partner programm and API re-seller.

Today i find my images on http://www.ibudgetphoto.com/ via DP (search with image-number). :o

It's unbelievable they do what they want. :(

Danke Axel!

The Partners thread with the list is a good effort on it's own. All sites is a nice idea also.

Each to it's own, will keep things easier to read and understand.

If you start combining the two it gets terribly complicated and confusing.

Even agencies often don't know where and how they are selling our work through! Not possible to make that list of partners ;) You can find thread on the forum with the list, but it's still not full.

The partner thread is unfortunately out of date.
I agree that there is much work for a single.
But we should all together can gather some information.
Maybe we should update the old thread.

271
nice list!

It would be good if the list is expanded with api and partner programs of the agencies.

Symbiostock / Re: Introduction and an update on Symbiostock
« on: March 23, 2015, 04:48 »

I wasn't involved with Symbiostock from the beginning, but did become pretty active until Leo blew his stack a few times and largely torpedoed the community and declared the project done. Right now, before I have any interest in release dates or features, I'd need to have some confidence that this next round of development was going to be different.

agree. One of the biggest problems in my view.
Such a shame in Symbiostock plugged the power to change the market in a win-win situation for profit of contributors and buyers.

I'm concerned symbiostock may cost a bit ($ 10 month) if it is stable and will be expanded.

But the buyer needs a nice looking global search.
Many buyers do not want a single vendor but an agency feeling.

summarized:

1. stability.
2. nice looking global landing page for buyers.
3. standardized clear licenses.
4. vat and tax improvements.

for that I would like to pay a monthly fee..

Woow, I want that great work desk!  :o
If SS pays me 50% instead 30% I could go for yoga and massage too...  :'( No, I'm not jealous, I just get significantly less % than my middleman... Who was talking about a rise lately?

Agree.
They make a nice living from our work.

I also think about it to test a macro-distributor.

Westend61 is not an option for me.
They spread itself to microstock that I can even do better and efficienttly by myself (without german/eu VAT).

Does Blend & Spaceimages require image-exclusivity?
