Yeah, my rejections are increasing and frustrating too. Up and down. What SS rejects, another takes...and vice-a-versa Hang on to them, make some changes and resubmit at a later date. I really don't understand SS's reviewing. You can send a whole batch and they all get accepted or a whole batch (like just now) that gets rejected. To me this depends who you get. To get images taken in decent light AND edited in Lightroom 4 to be rejected on the basis of poor lighting is quite ridiculous. What more are you meant to do ? At least IS are not over picky any more. Oh well, I will submit them a few weeks down the line and hope to get them in as I have done in the past.

I received this good news from iStock (sorry if someone else posted it):
Strangely, I am unable to upload from a web browser. I tried out DeepMeta for 4 submissions and it worked great. Very nice. So glad we don't need to use that antiquated web browser upload.
DeepMeta for Vectors
"Today we are very excited to announce that DeepMeta can now be used to upload your vector illustrations. Just in time for the holidays!
DeepMeta is FREE software for your computer that assists you in uploading and managing your iStock portfolio. If you haven't used Deep Meta before you can download it here.
Any iStock vector contributor will find this software useful. Having a local copy of your portfolio data makes editing/fine tuning your keywords and categories really easy. Powerful search/replace/copy functionality will save you a lot of time.

As a illustrator / vector artist I upload my vector files to these agencies : shutterstock, dreamstime, istockphoto, fotolia, depositphotos, bigstockphoto, graphicriver, cutcaster, stockfresh, canstockphoto, 123 rf. As a beginer I need an advice. Are all these agencies worth the time or I should stick only with the top 4 for example?
From my experience of 1,000+ in my portfolio, cutcaster, stockfuel, featurepics and other small agencies are worth it if the submission process is non-existent or no more than 1 or 2 clicks. Typically we don't have the steep overhead of photographers. They must submit releases with almost all images. I think we should support the small operatorsif they make the submission process simple. It's good to support them if they offer 50% commission too. Also, once you get your own workflow process running, it can be pretty easy to upload and submit to many, many sites (I'm currently at 20).

It still gives me error:
"the underlying connection was closed. Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel."
Sion, you need to report it on the DM section of the iStock forums. The developer will then notify the IS people. I've had this error for a photographer I work for and it's a problem on the IS end.

Very different for me. FT is really picking up this month. Hi, all!
Something's missing but I can't figure it out. My sales are almost down to zero and it didn't use to be like that.
Is somebody else experiencing the same thing? Especially now in August, September...

Slightly annoying now that I have almost 1,000 JPG versions of vectors up there. Oh well. http://discussion.alamy.com/index.php?/topic/1022-why-not-sell-vectors/
We're introducing vectors to Alamy during the last quarter of this year and we're currently looking for high volume contributors. At the moment, the submission process is via hard drive only and you must have at least 1000 vectors to submit. If this works for you then please get in touch by emailing [email protected] If you've got less than 1000, you'll be able to upload via the website soon, but not just yet. Cheers James A

I've never, in any of the jobs I've had in design studios, agencies, etc. over the last 14 years, ever heard a client referred to as a "reviewer".
Yeah, I thought they were talking about those people that send contributors those emails "Your work is not suitable as stock."

Or the period is a smudged trademark symbol because they laid down too much ink on the screen. I think the period balances out the dot on the i in the front. perhaps also subtly tries to imply that you don't have to look any farther for what you are looking for. istock - period.

I wish them well for everyone's sake.
I've a deep mistrust of rebranding as it often looks like someone decided a t*rd might not look like a t*rd if you present it in a nice box tied off with a pink ribbon.
Ha! That's a good one. Reminds me of this cartoon I made recently:

I'm no fan of iStock's treatment of us, but I wanted to say I submitted some vectors yesterday and found that their interface read the metadata in my JPG versions. I was pleasantly surprised.

I have joined. Got an invitation from referral. I'll give them a try. I will say, however, their release procedure is confusing to me. They have two folders on the FTP. I wish it was simpler.

I'm quite happy to know little about Arab 'culture' to be honest.
That's unfortunate. The basis of most algebra, our number system and countless other aspects of modern "western" civilization comes directly from Arab culture. I recommend that you and others who do not like Arabs sincerely try to make friends with an Arab neighbor or co-worker before making such judgements. I am not Arab. However I am a Muslim with many Arab associates and have studied the language. Learning about Arabs and the Arab language has enlightened me to many positive things.

Wow! Thanks for sharing. I've been really trying to images of Muslims of various ethnic groups to counter stuff like this. Looks like I need to do more. http://libyaliberty.tumblr.com/ is this a proof of how western culture perceives arab culture? so sad and somo photos are f___ing horrible!

What's so crazy about it is I am in my third year with them and I have almost 1,000 vectors up there. I have NEVER included or made releases for any accept a few paintings. Then that would require a model release just like as a photographer would except you'd be using illustrator instead of a camera.

Lots of bad karma at IS. when a leading company start losing his top suppliers and employees it's the sign of an imminent downfall. months, maybe years, but the cracks become more and more visible.
i remember when everyone in the IT dreamed about being hired at microsoft, now they all dream about google, apple, facebook, samsung ... microsoft or nokia or IBM are seen as secondo or third rate.
IS is on the same path and it's gotta be hard to get back on track, once a customer leave for greener pastures it's lost forever in most of the cases.
will they learn the lesson ? i don't think so .. there's an unbelievable arrogance in their announcements and newsletters, they really think they know better.

I think you're off to a good start: You are ready to try and sell your work. That doll in the dirt is quite interesting. Possibly a theme. That seems to be where we all eventually end up: Focusing on a theme or niche. I think it's something you should develop more. However, I think you'll have the best success with people in the pictures: People experiencing happiness, sadness, pain, pleasure, working at a trade, etc. Pictures of underrepresented ethnic groups, religions are especially good. Of course you'll need to get releasesand pay the models. Good luck! Hi!
Thanks for all the tips on the forum. I am just thinking about getting into Stock Photography. For that I would be using some pictures I already have and would change my shooting habits in the future. I will surely not be doing this anywhere near full time and unlikely with models. So, please have a look at a few sample shots:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/98917197@N05/
...and help me with these questions:
a) What is most critical for me to improve - regarding photostock, but also general technique (composition, etc.)? b What would be your top 3 / top 10 shots (for potential applications)? c) Would you say that it is "worth it" for me, i.e. the time to keyword and upload? (considering that I take pictures like this anyway) d) Any other general observations/comments?
A contribution to any of the questions above would already be very helpful. Thank you very much in advance!
