I am not sure if I understand correctly, and it is by no means a jab towards anyone. But am I correct in saying that 2400 images were submitted and 600 were rejected?

If thats true, he wont have 7k images online, but around 5k. Which is still phenomenal, but 2k images less will also affect potential income compared to the 7k images exclusive on IS.

I have to say, I didnt realise that being exclusive would get you so much more money than being independent.

I would submit photos that IS had rejected. Many best sellers on other agencies are rejected by Istock. I'd concentrate on the ones accepted on Istock first though.

So the overall images may be about the same after rejected ones are submitted.

Lets just cut to the chase.
Istock are hopeless when it comes to

1) Their website
2) keeping independent contributors happy
3) keeping promises

There's the odd exclusive contributor that's still happy.
My thoughts are they must be on the good side of vetta and agency sales etc.

I wonder if the winner from the rock paper sissors will go to a World Rock Paper Scissors Society sanctioned tournament.

Another interesting fact from Wikipedia

"An often used example of a four-weapon game adds "dynamite" as a trump. Dynamite, expressed as the extended index finger or thumb, always defeats rock, and is defeated by scissors. Using dynamite generally implies that dynamite burns paper, but some claim that paper would smother the fuse. The fourth option of dynamite changes each gesture's odds of winning. For instance, scissors' odds improve from 33% to 50% while rock's odds decrease from 33% to 25%. Dynamite can be used to cheat by quickly raising or lowering the thumb on the downstroke once the opponent's play is recognized. Some organized rock-paper-scissors contests never use dynamite, for the reasons above"

Unlike SS where plurals are unnecessary, entering a singular or plural at FT brings up a different set of results on the first page. On FT UK try entering eg. golf ball or golf balls.

Another peculiarity of FT (UK) is that some images come up on page 1 of search with every single keyword entered. Have some time on your hands and want to try entering these 17 keywords separately? I started with 'cheese' but found that one image appeared somewhere on P1 for each of its keywords entered.........not even spammed keywords for this one!

alcohol, appetizer, beverage, camembert , cheese, dairy, dairy products, dinner, drink, food, fresh, freshness, glass, red, wine, wine, wineglass

This is what makes me suspect that some people are favoured in the searches and some of us are purposely put back. Maybe I'm just being paranoid though.  Is the particular image a new image? If it isn't then definitely something very strange is going on.

I must be one of the people at the back. For me Fotolia earns 1/8th what it does at shutterstock.

I get "unknown error." As the earnings are low there and reviews take for ages I've just been waiting and try every now and then. Probably been happening for two weeks.

How do you shoot a vector

With a Smith & Wesson

I suppose you could.

Yes, "vector" comes from physics language, and refers to the forces influencing an object in 3 dimentional space. If you shoot a flying bullet or a falling rock, you actually shoot a vektor.

To add to todays science lesson.
A vector in physics is something that has both magnitude and direction/phase associated with it. i.e you specify the magnitude and direction of the force. eg gravity 9.8m/s down.

Vectors are also used to describe relationship between different electrical phase voltage and currents.

Back on topic, if you can build a 500 photo at the top 4 I'd expect $200/month would be achievable for an above average beginner. Bearing in mind that it might take 1-2 years to get that many images especially part time etc. It hard work though no easy gravy train.

Might be better off getting a job washing dishes

315
I should have put the sarcastic font on.

I assume the list is the 20 most searched keywords from shutterstock.

Obviously taking the comment "do only what you like" to the extreme isn't going to work if everybody does it.

I think the idea behind it is not to chase more money working in jobs you don't like when you could do one you like and still survive and be happier overall. 8-10 hours a day of a job you don't like isn't compensated by a shiny car or bigger house etc.

How do you make a small fortune ? Give someone a large one.

Nice to get the email but I would rather have some free shares.  They could give their contributors 5% of the company.  If they split that between the top 1,000 contributors, it would be a nice gesture and an incentive to keep working with SS.

5% of the company ?  It would be good but I doubt that someones going to give $25m as a good gesture.

It is virtually impossible to know what I am looking for with the next project so how could a Agency know? Focus is only a concern with print products.....

Agree.
They refuse too many similars just to discover that clients love having a big choice of similars to find the perfect image they need.

I haven't had a problem with IS not accepting from the same series. DT however is another story.

217k files  ?

The link to s_bukley portfolio didn't work.
Is this for real ?

Two weekends in a row? I would think they had hired iStock IT people, but we know they don't work weekends, so it can't be :)

Maybe they work 5 days at Istock and 2 days at SS.

Its not on your list but zoom lens are made for travelling. 3 lens in one.
24-105mm + fish eye and you'd have 95% of the shots I'd want to take while travelling.
