The SD-series has no manual options, or aperture/shutterspeed priority, or manual focus. It's too automatic for me.
I am not sure about the entire SD series, but the SD 950 (also know as the IXUS 960) does have a manual mode. It is not fully manual, like a dSLR, but it does provide some abilities (such as setting ISO, metering, exposure compensation, white balance, color mode, etc). It also has image stabilization (which I consider mandatory for indoor shots). The image stabilization is optical and not digital (meaning that there are parts that move to stabilize the image as opposed to software doing it), which is hard to find in a compact camera. The SD 950 also has the DIGIC III processor, which helps the 9 point autofocus system perform well. DIGIC III and the larger sensor are some of the main reasons that this camera has outstanding images (especially for a compact camera). I am not sure about its optical quality compared to the A-series too. There may be differences in models, but I think the A-series has better optics in general (sharper, finer detail, less CA).
Sorry, but I have to respectfully disagree with you on this point. Images out of the SD 950 are fantastic. They don't compare to a dSLR (which has a much larger sensor), but they are some of the best P&S images that I have seen to date. Most ISO 400 images from compact cameras are usually horrendous. While the SD 950 images don't compare to a dSLR, they are at least palatable. If anyone is interested, you can find reviews of the SD 950 here: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/canon_sd950.htmlhttp://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/SD950IS/SD950ISA.HTMhttp://www.trustedreviews.com/digital-cameras/review/2008/03/25/Canon-IXUS-960-IS/p1http://www.dpreview.com/news/0708/07082003canonsd950is.asp

The Canon Powershot SD950 IS is one of the best P&S cameras available. It has a larger sensor (1/1.7") than most P&S cameras (which normally have a 1/2.5"), which helps it take great images. It goes for around $310.
If you don't want to spend that much, then the Canon Powershot SD1100 IS is another highly rated camera. It goes for about $170.

How do you "opt out"?
By not uploading But seriously, there is no way to opt out of subs on Fotolia.

IMO, conceptual words should be allowed and are important for buyers to find an image. While there are professional buyers that know exactly what they want, there are many more buyers that have no idea what they are looking for. One of the features that DT has is the ability to see what a buyer searched for when they purchased an image. I have had many images that were purchased with keywords that were conceptual. There is actually a thread on the DT forums where members show the image that was purchased along with the keywords that were used to find the image. If you go through the thread, you will see loads of images that were purchased by conceptual keywords. Here is the thread: http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_8992

They might as well return images randomly in the Best Match. This way nobody is given any preference at all.
Then it wouldn't be a best match.
That is exactly my point. It isn't a Best Match now! So you might as well return a random sort order.

they fixed it today
But all of my footage is still gone...
Your footage should still be there. It seems that if you try to get to your footage via the My Account -> My Footage link (on the left side of the My Account page), then nothing will appear. But if you choose the My Footage link (on the right side of the My Account page), then your footage should appear. So it appears that one of the links is broken. But one thing that doesn't seem to working is the search for footage. When you search for something, only a very small number of videos are returned.

It looks like the StockXpert "Popularity" sort order (which is the default) has been changed (from their major revamp last night) and is reporting results which are based on the number of downloads (which is the same as the "Downloads" sort order).

I also noticed that lots of my images don't show up in the search.
I also have tried to search for some recently approved images and couldn't find them at all. So it does seem like it is a bug of some sort.

It would sure be nice if we could request multiple payments.
Or if they would allow you to edit the amount of the request while it is in the queue...

Same here. It seems they have a few things to work out.
I have also noticed that all of my video clips are now AWOL.

It looks like a part of last night's major revision was to change the default sort order (Popularity aka Best Match). It also looks like the Popularity sort order is the same as the Downloads sort order now. I'm not sure if this is by design or a bug.
This will probably cause a change in earnings for some members with earnings going up for some and earnings going down for others.

StockXpert had a major release last night and was down for a while, but the site seems to be back up now.
I tried to to login, but logging in doesn't seem to do anything.
Anyone getting into StockXpert yet?
EDIT: The login seems to be working now.

Anyone else have this problem this month or is there a new rule whereby if you don't make the $75 minimum they just take your money?
There is no new rule. I hope that you get it all sorted out.

It is pretty amazing that an independent (non-exclusive) can attain such a high level.

Personally I'd like to see more time spent working on making sure that the images that come back as a search result are actually relevant to the search terms...
That is exactly what the poll is trying to reflect. Which microstock site has the search engine that gives the most accurate results? I believe that is what the "Best Match" is supposed to reflect.

Best... for who? The Best results for a buyer rarely are the best results from a seller point of view. So, I've voted as a buyer.
"Best" meaning that the results will accurately reflect the keywords that you are searching for. For example, if you type in a search such as "red paperclip" or "disco mirrorball" what shows up? Do the results accurately reflect the search phrase, or do you get something entirely different. IMO, the DT search engine seems to give the best results.

IMO, this issue is one of the major problems at IS.
If you have a photo of an object that has a complex keyword (i.e., a keyword with more than one word), then it can get Wiki'd and have those vital words removed.
For example, if you have a closeup photo of "wood duck" (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wood_Duck), then you might get Wiki'd for the word "wood" (since there isn't any wood in the photo).
While I agree with the sentiment, this is not the best example. Correct disambiguation will allow you to map directly to Wood Duck. You enter duck as a keyword, which gives you several options, the correct of which is "Duck (Freshwater Bird)". To further specify, you'd click on the "+" and are then given a pretty long list of very specific duck terms from which to choose.
Since there is no wood in this photo, it would be completely accurate to be wiki'd for that word. If someone starts typing "wood" in the keyword box, one of the items that drops down is "Wood Duck".
While you are correct in what you are writing, that workflow makes a huge assumption - that buyers are aware of how the DA works and that they will type in their search so that it works the way the DA (disambiguation) works. For example, if a buyer type in "duck wood" (instead of "wood duck"), they will not find the DA tag "Duck (Freshwater Bird)". Or if they search for "wood duck water", it will also not find the DA tag. This is where the IS DA system falls apart. If you don't type in the words exactly they way the IS search engine is expecting it, then it won't find exactly what you are looking for. This is why I believe that it is problematic when a file gets Wiki'd for a tag such as "wood" when it is so crucial to the image at hand.

Shutterstock has "Most Popular"
iStockphoto has "Best Match"
Dreamstime has "Relevancy"
Fotolia has "Pertinence"
StockXpert has "Popularity"
They all have different names, but they are all essentially algorithms that are trying to return the most relevant results when a buyer searches for images.
Which stock site do you believe returns the most relevant results when you search for images?
And why?
