Ok. Thanks Mat.
Get Microstockr, and you'll have all these missing stats and more, not only for AS but for all your microstock sites.
Really? $5.99 a month to read the stats on Adobe? I hope that Mat has been lobbying to get us some decent lifetime earnings details for images. It just seems silly to have to go 13 months at a time and collect things on our own. For all the things that Adobe does right, the information about our earnings and assets performance is lacking.
This is why representatives from most of the agencies never come here, or stopped after a small number of visits. People like you who find something wrong with everything. And when they do try to answer you find something wrong with that too? Mat has been here many times before and over many years. The least people here could do is act like adults and a little bit professional?
(neh, just messing with you Pete:) )
I don't see this as an attack on Mat or anything else. I see it just like Pete as quite strange that an agency with such technical know-how is not able to provide a reasonable statistic or an app - as it is obviously desired by most users.

Hi All,
The data has been pulled and looked at for the distributor in question and we can confirm they have operated within our agreement.
The images were sourced from the pool of images opted into Chinese distribution and Novel Use. The usage confirmation report included a very small % of images that had opted out or had been deleted in the time between download and use, but the vast majority of images billed remain opted into both.
The images selected have been used as part of a small business / personal template style application where users can quickly create small designs. The novel use pool was used for this as it covers low value / high volume style licence packages and our agreement with this distributor continues to limit them to the novel use pool, although there still may be some additional billing associated with images downloaded whilst opted in, that are now opted out.
These deals are done based on the fact that they are additional streams of revenue that allow our reach to grow within the market and gain ground on competitors.
The average licence price we sell for remains a significant indicator as to our approach to pricing, and the fact that it has remained stable over the last 3 or 4 years at $26-$30 in a difficult market shows a level of robustness. Competition is fierce of course and last year saw record levels of contributor registrations and image uploads. The photographers who are growing revenue on Alamy and having continued success are supplying a steady stream of fresh and on-trend content and are seeing year on year growth in earnings.
Future growth opportunities are on the horizon across all areas of our business and we'll share them with you at the earliest opportunity.
Best regards
James Allsworth
Head of Content
James, first of all I think it is good that you explain the situation here on behalf of Alamy. Thank you for that. On the other hand, it is of no use if you answer here only with empty phrases and do not respond to the questions and problems of the forum participants. Nobody here can confirm the average license price of 26 - 30$. Where did you get your numbers from? And if this deal, as you say, was so important for Alamy in this difficult business - who tells us that there won't be many more deals like this with Bonsai remuneration? If you're going to the trouble of jumping into the shark tank here, you should try a little harder or just don't do it.

It's true. 123rf, dreamstime and Depositphotos are rather unimportant. Nevertheless, I'm close to 10,000 downloads on 123. With Depositphotos it is less, but I believe that I will reach the 10,000 before 123rf. At dreamstime it's not even half, but with a much better RPD. Compared to other agencies, with these three it was hardly worth the work. But in the end, there is a little money together, although much less than with the big agencies. Whether it makes sense to continue uploading with these small, everyone must decide for themselves. A few years ago I would have said yes, but now I'm not sure. I only upload there now because it's relatively quick.
Wilm, 10,000 downloads are impressive. Because the upload is so nice and easy, I would say that it still makes sense to supply the small agencies mentioned. Over the year, the 3 agencies together already add up to a nice sum. If the images are prepared, the upload simply runs alongside.

I darent look because itll depress me for the rest of the week.
In addition to all the praise from others, I'll join you. I made the mistake of looking at the invoice. As always, no $30 with very bad RPD. Istock is still the taillight for me.

Yes, that rain comes from us. It was also foggy here the days before.
As much as I like your country, this is a very serious problem here with huge political explosives. The rain and thus any bad weather always comes from Holland. You should change that.

My highest photo sale on SS this year was $100 when I was level 3.
I'd be interested to know when you uploaded that image and what you think makes it stand apart so that it can fetch such a good price.
Annie has talked previously about it being worthwhile uploading 'high quality' (ie mp/size) images. Was this the case with this one?
I'd also be interested to know if you have such successes with images uploaded in the last 12 months or so.
The higher sales for me are usually not the best sellers, but surprise sales even of older images. Why customers chose exactly this photo is honestly a mystery to me. Here are 4 example of sales around 100$, the first and second one was made on the side with the iPhone.
Thanks Ralf. Yes, these are indeed not the photos where you immediately expect such a high price. I see your port is expanding fast!!! Right now I'm not doing anything with this grey weather.
Thijs, well, the photos are not that badc .But I know what you mean, that's why I posted these examples.
Here in Germany in our area we have fog for weeks, I would be happy if I could at least see gray skies.
I'm looking forward again to the bike tours in the summer in 'Holland, when I can poach in your territory photographically
Same weather as with us. And there will be no improvement this month. This was a photo of the sky above our garden on a "beautiful" day a few days ago. I just sold it for 10 cents in Poland. https://www.shutterstock.com/de/image-photo/dark-clouds-sky-silhouette-trees-winter-2101821232
With your photo Caribbean feelings arise with me . The visibility here was 50 - 100 m, today the fog is gone for a long time, but continuous rain now.

Great stuff Mat and thanks for the info!
I would like to propose a session where Adobe explains to it's contributors how ranking works within searches of clients. It would be an honest and open gesture to the contributors what to expect in the collaboration we have together. It would also give tools to the contributor to submit better quality or other content if they would only know what drives the search algorithm or at least know what the components are. It probably will help Adobe as well.
Thanks for the question, but I don't think the ingredients of the secret search sauce can be revealed. I've tried to crack the code
Here is the recipe for contributor success that I have been able to reverse engineer:
-Preheat the oven by creating top level content on a regular basis that speaks to current and upcoming trends (this is why today's livestream is so important for contributors in my opinion.)
-Add the following in no particular order:
-One teaspoon containing at least 15-25 relevant keywords -1/4 cup containing around 80 characters for a descriptive title -Two cups of submissions at regular intervals throughout the year. That's it! After that, the plate leaves the kitchen and is served up to the customers out front. If they like what is on the menu, they order it and consume it. If they are pleased with the result, they come back for more and the process continues.
Can you tell that I'm hungry right now?
-Mat Hayward
I like that. Mat, aside from the beard and the same haircut, I think we have the same sense of humor I'm more in the editorial field, after all. When can you finally submit an editorial meal that also features a spoonful of people? Is there anything in the pipeline?

I don't understand why people care about levels. Even on the highest level I still earn 10 cents per photo.
;)because it makes a big difference to me whether I get 47$ for a SOD sale on level 1 or 160$ for the same sale on level 5. And since non-subscription sales are pretty much the only ones where you can make decent money on SS that makes leveling up even more important.
Thanks Firn for setting the record straight. Somehow the level discussions here always go in circles I would also like to add that the higher subs are also increasing towards a dollar, which are now also still there. I slipped into Level 3 yesterday and am already making significantly more revenue than I did with Adobe.

I reached level 2 yesterday with an even $10. Today I had further 30 downloads so far with one single outlier of 11 cent. But ok, the year is still young.

There are worse things in the world than an underpaid stock photographer. Also, look at yourself if things in your life aren't going the way you want them to.
Yes, there are worse things - colored tattoos. I am so happy that the EU is now completely and finaly eradicating cancer by taking tattoo artists europe-wide off the scene into bankruptcy. Next, we should turn off the harmful sun
Thought you were joking but it's true https://www.politico.eu/article/tattoo-parlors-brace-new-eu-ink-bans/ This might be a good editorial stock video and photo idea, shots of the bottles of coloured ink that are now banned and if any model has a coloured tattoo even better.
I'm just waiting for our Ontario Canada politicians to ban toilet paper as there are no doubt some cancer causing chemicals in the manufacturing process of the paper.
Unfortunately, many of the eu parliament's decisions really do seem like a joke and are not comprehensible with clear common sense. For the banned tattoo inks it is not even proven that they are carcinogenic and this assumption probably applies to almost all substances - so your comparison with toilet paper is not so far-fetched.

The few customers I've spoken to often don't know. But to be honest, I also don't know if all my clothes are made under good conditions for a good wage, or if all the wood I use is responsibly harvested. The customers I know are people who don't buy for themselves, but for a company they work for.
Absolutely right Thijs. No one has the time to critically scrutinize every product they buy. And the purchase of photos from stock agencies should be at the bottom of the list of priorities

Same here. Four 15 cent sales crossways yesterday, all went to China. The Chinese seem to be on a cheap shopping tour here.

No, this is not new. It just means that 5 potential buyers has put your photo on some kind of memory list. But these messages don't really affect sales in my experience.

Highest sale this year was a dutch windmill from Kinderdijk for 90 $ and one for 70 $ (flowers). Then still 10 sales between 30 - 40 $ and about 50 sales around 10 $. During the facebook outage in october one photo on the subject brought me about 160 downloads in one evening only on Shutterstock, which means about 80 $. And no, I am not a shutterstock agent.

My best selling image from last year is actually one that got rejected twice, and finally approved on the third time.
Same experience with me. And this concerns numerous images.

I answered "you can make some money, but I'd look at Microstock as a side interest, don't depend on that income or growth of the market." It's more like a hobby for me, but I learned some stuff on the way like : mastering Adobe Photoshop (by the way I'm getting it for free from Adobe as a contributor), improved my language skills (English is a second language for me), improved my photography skills, while write description about something I'm sometimes learning some interesting facts about subject.
Those were exactly my thoughts as well. Plus for me, stock photography broadens the horizon.

In recent years, I've done a lot of editorial photography, including product photography. I don't see any difference in the payment to commercial photos. Editorial photos also regularly go for higher prices. In terms of sales, I sell significantly more editorials, especially when I have the right image for specific breaking news topic . Edit: As I was writing this, I had on shutter a sale for $5.25 for a video conferencing provider

If you're as big as BTS or OK ONE ROCK and a few others then you can do ok but for the rest you're not making a living of the music. It's like all forms of digital media just has no value anymore, can't compete with free and you need to give your work away for free to promote your work.
Very many good points in your posting. Digitization has its advantages and disadvantages. The same applies to book authors, who earn much less money with e-books. I myself have quite a large vinyl record and book collection. To these things I have a special reference, can name authors, song title, singer, album name. When I download music or books digitally, I usually don't know the author or artist within the next few days. You somehow lose the relationship to things, you only consume. I miss the times when you explored the world with a printed guidebook without Gps. And somehow it also has its charm, when you get lost with your paper street map. o.k., was a bit off topic
