Good to hear but from my experience submitting a rasterized Jpeg from a vector to StockXpert usually gets the response "we are not looking for such images right now". In the fact the last batch all ten failed before I could find which one had corrupted on upload - very quick reviews but the answer these days is usually no. So being able to submit an eps/AI file of something they are going to reject isn't such great news for me. $2 sales for the eps on DT are nice

Sorry to see no Sydney folk amongst us. Been there a couple of times. I would recommend getting the bus out to Manley beach then catching the manley Ferry back to downtown so you will have sumptuous views of the harbour, bridge and opera house (weather permitting). The bridge and shore front (which hasn't been covered in condos) is also very scenic Hotels I am el cheapo usually hostels or friends spare rooms/floors. but avoid hotels in Kings Cross as like its London's namesake is the red light district/junkieville unless this is what you really what to photograph. Lonely planet accommodation listSounds like you should be running Stock photography seminars

I don't know who bothered applying but this is the reply I got Please send us a resume that would recommend you for this job as well as a letter of intention. Please mention how many hours per day you will dedicate to this. You need to be aware that if you sign up for this program you will have to stick with it like to any other regular job and that we need to have the above mentioned information to be able to choose the right people.
Still overseas so I haven't replied yet but its my last port of call the big T (not that any one calls Toronto that) Though my resume has sweet FA to do with photography which probably explains the long hours for low income. I still think there won't be too many images to keyword.

never try to understand the inner working of the reviewers mind
many have tried many have failed
obviously didn't like the image but they never seem to say that

I suspect that supply of keymaster will far exceed demand of images with blank boxes as if you were an exclusive you wouldn't want to wait 3 months to see why your image wasn't selling due to poor keywording

For those with time on their hands and a big theasuraus 20c sure beats 2c and its easier to start with a blank piece of paper rather than think of 10 new ones not sure what the rate per hour would be but could come in handy when you are desperately close to a payout. Would submitters really pay 20c , I presume we could still see the file after we have uploaded as FTPing sometimes strips the IPTC data though more of a problem on SS, I would hate to end up paying 20c due to an uploading error. Glad to see its only after the image has been accepted At this stage we don't consider there's a need for a minimum, but don't apply unless you can devote at least several hours of hard work weekly if not daily. Though as someone mentioned in the thread a bit pointless unless you are a DT exclusive as you will have to keyword the image yourself for the other sites as you can't see the keywords for 3 months to prevent you from keywording an entire series from one image.

Hopefully it boosts sales.

I just applied to try the beta version - hey look a microstock that uses a beta system unlike a Calgary based micro giant who like to jump with both feet. If they get back to me I will let y'all know October DLs earned 33c not bad Has anyone noticed they are getting more fussy at 123 regarding acceptance? just had 48/103 rejected even though SS accepted more like 70-80%, I guess they don't like backgrounds or signs either
361
« on: November 02, 2006, 00:12 »
remember after upsizing you can now submit them as JPEGs setting 12 (just make sure your chosen pixel dimensions will give you a 48 meg uncompressed TIFF or bigger). I managed 489 on one DVD all accepted after about 5 weeks wait now I just to have keyword them (thank God that bears more resemblance to SS than iS)

Just checked my november downloads and I had two but each earnt me $1 instead of 50c
there are 2 prices for large and small for my photo
1 credit for 1200 x 900 (1 mp) 2 credits for 1704 x 2272 (4mp)
but one for a picture of big ben which appeared very high up in my search for "ben more mull" their search engine is so bad
1 credit 646 x 900 0.6 mp 2 credits 982 x 1366 1.3 mp
so rather strange why offer two sizes for such a small photo also strange that great andres would bother taking and uploading such a small resolution
I noticed on another photo
1 credit 835 x 1200 2 credits 11.3 mp
so quite strange

My own 2p for the pot at the moment I am mostly submitting mostly signs and backgrounds as the weather hasn't been that good some days and I ahevn't decided whether the blue sky landmark shots will go to Alamy or the micros.
DT + StockXpert hate them, I have had entire batches rejected by the former as "they have too many" a weak excuse they recently rejected some of my Washington Monument ones for that reason but if you actually looked at the 65 images in their library 2/3 were actually of the Capitol building or other monuments in Washington.
One a brighter note SS FT + BS are snapping them up and the bestest ever month on SS. Not sure whats going on at BigStock desperate to catch up with DT very high acceptance rate even on borderline stuff. Though I notice that sales as BS have slowed right down in the latter half of the month.
I suppose thats why you don't go exclusive otherwise your ability to sell is all down to just one reviewer.

been there done that not to mention setting it to TV to try not to over expose the sky and then taking a bunch of shots at a very fast shutter speed, though sometimes you get away with it. Any luck with the comet shot?
I tend to use the info screen on the Canon 350D with the thumbnail, histogram and details and check every few shots for exposure so I usually spot it.

In my experience with FT he only thing I wonder about is the low views, payouts are fairly quick.
I have had some EL sales even a couple after I put the prices up to $50

sorry to hear that as I am using Paypal at the moment (I think most of us do) and was hoping to open up a moneybookers account just in case PP start acting up.

pixvue also predicts the title and description from the previous entries so if you have a similar set of photos and you have type up your title, description and keywords in notepad, word, excell etc
when you type in the first letter pixvue will fill in the rest and then you can have the keywords in the active paste function to save yourself switching back.
Only problem is, pixvue alphabetises the keywords (though I suspect they all do that) so you you into problems with Fotolia's most relevant 7 first rule though I wonder like their 1.4 million images is this really the case.

I find that most of best selllers at SS are illustrations (though I am not in iStock's league) so can't comment on sales there.
I do sell a few at DT and FT though the rasterizing tends to work against me sometimes in getting them accepted.
DT have the $2 for an eps file a pain to upload them sepeartely but nice when one sells for $2.
I suppose illustrations are something to be doing on those rainy days.

If they were shot at "fine setting" and isn't too noisy virtually all the sites will accept a 3mp picture (unless they have a very similar shot at a better resolution) with the exception of 123rf and SS if you signed up after March'06.
There is a list of the minimum sizes for the different sites in my guide below (yep it needs an update but I don't have the source files with me)

The problem is iStock has a different pricing structure you still earn only 20% but they sell for big bucks. I chatted with on illustrator who spends a couple of days on her creations. So they are really fussy about newbies.
So I have quite a few 10 mins - 2 hour creations that sell reasonably well elsewhere (most of my best sellers at SS are vectors) but iStock won't touch me with a barge pole so you are not alone.
