It would be very nice to have an exact year how old images should be to be considered as public domain. At least at some point the limit at IS was 1884, which sounds quite reasonable. 150 years (=1862) is a long shot.
Is not accurate to have a year as the PD limit. there are many publications in PD from 1910 or 1920. is a little bit complicated with the publications beyond 1900. It's depend of the country , depends if the publications had buy the rights from the original artist or only had some sort of RF license.... and many many more. Some sort of IS strategy ( upload the first page of the book in the model release section, or provide proof that the publication is in PD) is more reasonable for SS.

Hi All,
I've been discussing this with the team and should be able to follow up by end-of-day tomorrow.
Thanks for your patience!
Best,
Scott
Thanks Scott... I hope the review process regarding this types of files will be clarified. Is not logical to accept only over 150 years old PD files because 90% of the most representative designs and illustrations were made between 140 and 100 years ago.

Why upload a public domain photo on a microstock website?
Because microstock is not just pretty models posing and beautifully drawn Illustrations...

I got a bunch of rejections today ( public domain photos) for the following reason: ''We require public domain images to be older than 150 years old.''. Has anyone received a message like that?
Is this a new rule on SS? The big majority of PD designs, drawings were made between 1860-1900. It doesn't make any sense.
I had the same rejection last week on a public domain image from 1883.
I had a bunch of PD photos accepted ( 30. May) this week. when were your images rejected? Might be this a new review rule regardin PD photos? or just a uninformed reviewer...

The funny part is that i contacted the books editure (that is in business even today) before uploading any PD images on SS and they confirmed that the designs and illustrations are in Public Domain. I have send a message to SS telling them that i have writen proof that the illustrations are in PD.

interesting month for me.... SS - down by 25% (compared with the previous month) FT - UP UP UP + 40% DT - UP by 20% 123RF - UP UP around 30% IS - still not interested The pie slices: SS - 60% ( by faaaar my best earner) FT - 20% DT - 12% 123RF - 8% DT, FT and 123 have managed to compesate almost all my losses on SS ... so May was a good month.

Update.... I have 40 images waiting for two weeks. Now SS is reviewing only a part of my submitted photos once/week. Yesterday i had 95 images waiting to be reviewed ( uploaded last week ) and only 47 were reviewed...

hmmm.... considering that SS is earning around 60-70% of all my microstock income exclusivity with SS is a very appealing proposal.
if they pay between .38 and .44 at sub , 30-45% from OD ,EL and others probably i will go with them....
P.S. i believe the first step ( if they want to implement a contributor exclusivity program) will be some sort of image exclusivity ( to see how the market will respond).

My RPD has fallen through the floor at 123RF the last few months. And since downloads have not increased to compensate, it is now one of my lowest tier earners. Can't say I'll be uploading much to them in the future.
For me 123RF is my 4th earner; way over DP from the beginning. The sales are slowly but steadily increasing.

All categories of sales are way down for me. May has been on par with December and January, and I've experienced a 40% drop in earnings from last month. That's not normal ebb and flow, at least not from my experience. I've never seen anything like it at SS.
Same here around 40% down compared with previous month. still i manage to recover some of the loss with DT, 123RF and FT witch are around 20% up compared with April. Overal May is -20% compared with April.

By faaaar my best selling pictures on SS are rejected on DT for the reason: Not what we are looking for ... . WoooW; those pictures alone have generated a lot of money on SS in a very short time. Yes, DT will fall apart at this rate.

I shoot Raw , use PS CS5 for slight sharpening and TopazDenoise (photoshop plugin) for noise reduction. Considering that i use a Canon 7D i must apply some noise reduction to all my files. TopazDenoise works very, very well.

The Getty images ''group'' including IS and other agencies is more powerful than SS alone.... But SS is by faaaaar the best microstock agency.

I am seeing that people are making double or more profits compared to Dreamstime on Shutterstock.
Very, very true...

It is worth remembering that it it the author who holds the copyright, it this case the man who drawed the maps. He has made an agreement with the publusher of the atlas, like we do with our pictures, and allowed the publisher to distribute the maps. Anyway... When a publishing company, does not exist anymore, it only influences the relations between the author and the publisher, ( he might not get paid?). But he still owns the copyright to the work.
And that does expire 70 years after he is dead. So thats the kind of atlases you should look for, old ones, where the authors have died long ago.
You are right... But, there is a possibility that some maps are made by countries or national authoritys, in many cases there are not copyrighted (world map or countries maps) . Is very hard do find out this based on a single 1980 atlas.

As far as I know, Fotolia doesn't accept editorial images.
