General Stock Discussion / Re: Why stay with non performing agencies?« on: April 18, 2013, 11:12 »
You can work out the 20% which sells the most on an agency. Its a little harder to work out which 20% WILL sell the most and on other agencies.

If you knew which 20% like the saying about advertising spending 50% is wasted the problem is knowing which 50%

General Photography Discussion / Re: Advise to boost my sales« on: April 13, 2013, 01:57 »
I wouldn't delete images I've recently had a bit of a run of selling older unsold images. RPI is not a helpful stat in my opinion

Was it millions or a few thousand?? - I suppose it depends on buyers - if they stay then income per image may well go up?

Looking at the March stats Istock seems to be picking up and Sstock dropping like a stone - statistical aberation or trend? Methinks its just variability but if the boot was on the other foot we would be hearing that Istock would be dead in days!!!!

I think the issue who should absorb the cost of returns - If I take a shirt back I would be surprised if the manufacturer would be billed the retailer would absorb the cost?

Newbie Discussion / Re: Return Per Image- Newbie Question« on: March 19, 2013, 06:17 »
To me there are three key stats - money actually coming in time and cost - If I spend 3hrs fiddling with one image I would want to get more income than one I just do a quick 5mins. Also if I spend money then I want a better return. I don't think RPI is particularly helpful and can produce perverse results as discussed above.

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS earnings call 2/21 5PM East Coast Time - you can listen in.« on: March 15, 2013, 17:26 »
This looks pretty impressive to me and Istock/Getty are clearly in their sights. I see no reason for them to hack off contributors as their strategy is growth rather than squeezing revenue from a stagnant market which appears to be Istocks thinking.
