Hey Leaf.. not sure if it's come up here.. but they are just another mid RF site, not micro or macro. (flat rate RF $129.00 or 129. euros)
MM went on a headhunting excercise from micro sites, but the info they sent out wouldn't reveal what market they were gunning for, the photogs percentage or selling price... only that all images needed to be exclusive (and all image need property/model releases). MM has since gone for non-exclusive contracts, but still not that great at communications.
Not the place for our friends here at MSG. I'll let you know how we go there... will be giving them some image soon... just for fun. cheers. JC

Thanks FlemishDreams... took your advice and had a look at Zymmetrical.. hmmm.
I registered, got the info and promptly set up a ftp client. Logged into Zymmetrical via the ftp details only to find my "private upload folder" ..well, ain't so private. It contained 97 hi res images from another photographer.. which I could download without an issues. (Don't worry, I deleted the one I downloaded to test and get the photogs name)
Is this common with this site? Seems pretty unsafe to me... might not be uploading there for awhile.
Is big brother still watching this post?
cheers, JC

Understand your point(s) prefectly well and this topic comes up every few months.
The last time it raised it's head I asked if there was a start-up MS site today offering you 50% up front, would you support it? Everyone comes back with questions of funding, staffing, marketing plans etc.. AND we'll wait to see how it goes!
You can't have it both ways... start ups need your support to get going, but you make more money from ISP & SS. At some stage you'll have to understand... the terms and conditions have been set BEFORE you began submitting.. you agreed (like everyone else) to the 20% commission... simple as that. Would love to see everyone find a start-up and truly support them.. but money will always talk.
Walk if you will... McGetty won't care

Firstly...I wish everyone the prosperity that you so richly deserve!
Secondly, Sharply_done.. you will be missed. Your sharply wit, tongue, advice and most importantly, your incredible support of microstock photographers. Enjoy your time as we know you'll still be watching.
And for me, I've decided to sell up the office/studio and move to one of the best surf beaches along side of a great golf course early in 2008. That way, once I can get my surf or golf in each day...I can spend the second half of the day happily working on content for microstock (and macrostock) each and everyday! I look forward to everyone's update this time next year.
Until then... enjoy life and shoot well. Now if I could only figure out what to do with over a million slides sitting here...hmmmm. Thinks me will be busy for awhile.
cheers, JC

Copying keywords!! LOL... Thanks guys, I would have never thought of that one on my own.. What laugh... "I didn't copy your keywords, but might have copies someone who did" There's a great joke in there... but I'll keep it clean. cheers, JC http://dalehogan.ca/blog/2007/12/20/the-dale-hogan-worm/

Gizeh... just wanted to say thanks again for that clip... I've passed it around to a few friends in the biz and everyone is loving it! How this thread got turned into microstock photogs being better and pros running scared has me a bit baffled. This clip has more to do with the business of photography than 90% of the threads on this site. Keep up the good work mate!

And guys... I'm sorry to say it like this... BUT for all you who say that this has nothing to do with photography (or pros whining) only shows that photography isn't your first profession. Watch the clip again (I still have tears in my eye...bloody funny!) replace the word writer for photographer and listen to his remarks about Warner Brothers. That's the key.. the remarks about the company, not competitors. In the past 30 years in this business I have found every year this issue gets worse.. companies ringing your office and want something for nothing and get pissed at you when you don't give it to them. I'm talking the biggest magazines, ad agencies and yes, even film studios. I had the largest IMAX film maker want a unique set of images for free. Yes, free.. claiming IMAX movies were educational, not commercial therefore we shouldn't charge him. I did the same thing as in the clip... asked and yes, everyone and every contributor was getting paid except for us. I said no... they got very, very upset and 2 months later came back and happily bought the set of images. Somehow in the 2 months they BECAME commercial. This happens daily... and is a real pain in the ass. Try paying your rent with a credit line in the local paper... good luck. Thank you Gizeh that clip is a ripper! (sharply_done.. hopefully this wasn't too negative. Seriously thought this was bloody funny, but a little too close to the bone as this happens to me daily. Cheers, JC)

Yingyang... easy. you submit 20 images and the acceptance/decline notices come back to you in batches of 3 - 5 at a time over 48 hrs.... and to add to the fun. Here's one just in .. check the file name!! Dear Sportlibrary, We are glad to inform you that your file "Racing_01" has been accepted for addition to the iStockphoto library. Thank you very much for your Submission. You can view your submission at: http://www.istockphoto.com/file_closeup.php?id=4610942

yeah, bad habits in this business die hard! Even if I use some images solely for microstock..they still need to fit into a bigger filing system .. thus some numbering has to be done. Why this hasn't been pointed out before baffles me.... and just for fun, the same reviewer accepted numbered images at the same time. Now they're just messing with me head!! cheers.

Hi guys... I know I started playing in Microstock as bit of a social experiment and for the most part, I enjoy it. Really do get some great laughs and try hard not to take it too seriously ( the rejections that is!) ... but this one has me stumped. I'm OK with the artifacting rejections with are terribly inconsistent, but in the middle of a submission I got a few images rejected for ... and I quote " We regret to inform you that we cannot accept your submission, entitled Racing_03 ( http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/4611251/2/istockphoto_4611251_racing_03.jpg) for addition to the iStockphoto library for the following reasons: Please refrain from personal naming or number systems when titling your file. This affects the quality of search results and should be removed for future uploads. Example 'A Five Pencils' or '1 Five Red Pencils' Example 'A1, A, AAA, 1A, etc.' If you require further explanation regarding this rejection, please forward this message and your questions to Client Relations ( [email protected])" Now every image I have online is numbered... simple as that. Most are part of a bigger submissions and to date (including today!), ISP has a never had an issue. Just for fun... I thought I'd give you all something else to worry about when submitting. Good luck I say. Cheers, JC

Seeker...you got it right when you said contributors are " one facet upon which their business is built". But they are not THE facet! get it?... it's a business and decisions, however painful to some, must be made for the betterment of the overall business and not every contributor. If the site had loads images but no sales, there would be complaints too. The strong will survive....

just for fun... who has the image with most views, but no downloads on LO.
I have one (ordinary pic if you ask me!) that has 1761 views, but no downloads. Can anyone beat that?
cheers.

Yingyang0... I totally agree and seriously can't believe something the size of ISP would be silly enough to go for a freeware program like MYSQL and not going for something more robust from the start...even SQL would have been a better option!
The few thousand dollars saved for not buying licenses required...has well and truly been lost.

Thanks for the response Steve-oh.. my laughter came at images with just feet and legs ( BTW, I always change the bib numbers) being rejected needing MR's but full body shots...and easily more identifiable shots being accepted without an issue.
Just keeps me guessing... which is part of the fun, right?
cheers.

OK lesson learned! Overnight my folders were all cleared, but the reviewer (obviously a reader here!) found a new reason for rejections.. "upload better pictures" ...hmmm, same images already selling on SS & ISP ... oh well, not the place for sport I guess.
Also now require a model release for feet and legs, but the whole back of someone is fine.
I started this whole project into microstock as a personal learning exercise.. days like today only make me shake my head at the whole lot.
Off to shoot better pictures!

A folder with 11 images uploaded on the 23rd of August. 4 were approved within 24 hours and 7 images still sit pending along with anything uploaded since then.
StockXpert has overtaken Lucky Oliver for last place on my list!
