Dissolve / Re: Introducing Dissolve
« on: November 18, 2019, 19:33 »
Hello from Dissolve!

My name is George Georgeadis and I am a filmmaker/storyteller and the product manager here at Dissolve. I work directly with our contributors and I am beyond excited to introduce myself and Dissolve to you.

Dissolve is a new stock footage website by some of the founders and original creative minds behind Veer and iStock. We are 100% focused on selling footage and specializing in supporting the unique needs of footage buyers around the world.

We are looking to work with contributors that are as passionate about stock footage as we are. We believe that footage is at the heart of great storytelling and we are inspired by the work of this creative community.

I am not only a part the Dissolve team, but also a filmmaker and an exclusive stock producer for Dissolve, so I would like to encourage you to ask me any questions you have about Dissolve, about shooting footage, how to become a part of the Dissolve family or anything else you want to know.

We are happy to be on MicrostockGroup to start a dialogue about all things stock footage, and to invite you to become a contributor. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Here's our site: dissolve.com

Here's how to become a Dissolve contributor: contributors.dissolve.com

Why has the rate per clips set to $49? I get 14$ per sale and apparently cannot delete my catalog? Is this legal?

Pond5 / Re: Pond 5 Sales Dropped Off
« on: August 04, 2019, 04:01 »
I got two video sales for $6/ each on pond5!  How can it happen when all my HD videos $78 in all size ????  Pond5 was my fav agency...  Last month 0 sales. No way. Im disappointed.

Same here. 3 separate clips priced at $79 got me a $14.50 royalty. My sales are up but these "LLP" licenses seem to be them just making up any price to get a sale. The industry standard $23 commission has dropped to $14 across the board. Dissolve is doing it along with P5 and of course, SS has their $1.50 clip sales. Maybe the volume of stock clips being bought will eventually make up for the low prices but let's ask some photographers how that worked out for them.

53
I've not experienced a total loss of footage but was wondering if any of the stock agencies would allow you to download the master file for low to no cost in the event of data loss?

Stay away.  Very hostile to contributors.  No respect.

I've had nothing but great experiences with the Dissolve team. You sound like a broken record and offer no reason as to why you dislike them.

Sorry but this is needed again! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZyeQmy3BV70
I canceled my account with them. I hope they bounce back.

And they claim sales aren't fixed ~ yeah right  ::)

How are they fixed?

58
I do photos and video and can say that photos bring in much more than video does. I guess the lower prices of photos make it much easier for buyers to make that decision whereas an $80 clip is harder to justify.

60
Explained clearly for anybody who can read, the exclusive was so they could distribute to Adobe, Vimeostock and maybe others without duplication from our own accounts. I went exclusive because of this added exposure.

I upload to those sites too, plus Dissolve and Shutterstock. So I'm not sure how limiting yourself to 3 companies is added exposure? My SS sales beat out the other top 3 combined.

61
What did you want to know?

More about the subscription services, whether it's opt-in or not. From what I can tell it's not, but not hearing back from them isn't a good sign along with the fact that sales have slumped.

62
Typically they have my clips reviewed within a day or two but no it's been over 2 weeks and my clips are still pending. Anyone else experiencing this?

63
I think its a positive news that they removed the heads up notification when you search footage that its not part of their membership program.

I emailed them last week asking for clarity on this whole subscription mess they have started. So far, no response from them at all.

64
Not a sham....but not explained very well either. By having "exclusive" clips Pond5 is able to distribute them to partner agencies while controlling the prices. Based on what P5 told us, they have contracts with partner agencies where the partner will have to sell at/around the price YOU set for your exclusive clips on Pond5.

And say you make a sale on Adobe with one of your P5 "Exclusive" clips. Do you still retain 60% of the royalties of the price you set, or 60% of what's leftover after Adobe or Vimeo take their cut?

65
I saw one of my exclusive clips on Adobestock. How is this exclusive at all? SMH

Did you opt into the Pond5 Partner program?

I'm not sure if I did, didn't see that option pop up when I signed up. Regardless, this exclusive program is officially a sham.

66

thought I'd just post some thoughts here...

if footage was "truly" exclusive and desirable, and pond5 reached out to outlets that desired this truly exclusive footage - i.e., what the authors submitted was very difficult to obtain else where and news footage firms wanted, say:
-

Your thoughts?

I look at it as an opportunity for us to take control of the industry. A lot of the Best content producers are putting their efforts into Pond5x, guys like Via Films. I'm doing the same with some of my higher end stuff and will see how it goes. If all of the best content is exclusive then it will drive sales, just dont use garbage footage for P5x.

Just how are you "taking control of the industry"?

"If all of the best content is exclusive then it will drive sales" - but all the best content is not exclusive.

It's up to you as a producer to if you actually care about the industry to not enable the race to the bottom type players. Since you dont produce quality content then maybe exclusive isnt for you

Stephan,i don't get it..i checked my clips on dissolve and they are all at 79/179$...am i missing something??
Btw i couldn't agree more about what you said on storyblock member library...i can clearly see the impact on other agency sales ...i know many producers that take advantage from it...and quite honestly who can blame them??

I wonder if they are basing their prices on how many sites the content can be found. Mine ks at 49 which happened without notice. That 29$ pricing is concerning and Ill pull my entire portfolio if they pull that with me

And for those who also contribute to Dissolve, it is a chain reaction.

Your clips are now offered for 29$ at Dissolve.

Really? I just checked and it's at $49 so you are spreading misinformation.

71
I play that game from time to time as well. Some of my cityscape timelapses I'll title as "timelapse of skyscrapers in modern city" instead of including the name of the city or building name. My hope is that they will reach a broader audience but I don't know whether it works.

Thanks to John at Crafted Stock for sounding that last alarm regarding the sub model. Who would have guessed that paying out 80 to 100% commissions wasn't a sustainable business model? LMFAO!

Almost everyone is reporting the same. I've had one sale this year compared to about 6 per month previously. Considering their promises of good things to come after the commission change, I wonder if they're feeling highly embarrassed by what's happened or if that was what they expected all along? At this stage they can only be viewed as a good bit of money while it lasted.

Same here. Used to pull in 400/month and now not a sale since January. As long as their subscription plan isn't mandatory there is still hope.

74
It is impossible to make a living from stock footage. You can make some pocket money but hold on to your real job.

This is what you consider constructive to this forum? Ive made upwards of 2k per month doing this and its steadily growing.  People like John from crafted shutter make a good living off this so Im not sure what youre on about.

Not only have you shown yourself to be rude, but clueless as well. Don't give advice on things you have no knowledge about.

Check and mate....again.

General Stock Discussion / Re: 1.22$ clip earning at Pond5
« on: May 05, 2019, 16:59 »
If you think this is bad, wait until instagram has a simple opt in function thar allows anyone to sell their photos and video. That will be the final death blow for stock imho.

Not exactly, the range of clips and photos on instagram is relatively narrow and covers only about 20% of stock subjects. Most of it is ego me me me driven and will never cover the everyday subjects that stock requires.

You arent looking ahead. Just because they cant cover whats out there NOW doesnt mean anything. Instagram can easily accept higher res stuff and make it simple to opt in and make money off content. Once they do that everyone will license their snaps for peanuts and be happy making 20$ a month off their selfies and whatever else they have. It's coming, dont kid yourself.

I think you're dreaming. Stock sites have millions of clips specifically made by professionals for stock. You also seemed to ignore my point that most stock is of subjects that the average Instagram user would have no interest or access in shooting, such as medical, business, education, environmental, industry. Instagram is all about travel, food, fashion.

Go have a look on instagram and see whats on there. Theres plenty to choose from, it might not tick all the boxes but it can definitely take a massive chunk out of the industry. I understand you want to protect your job as long as you can but the reality is slowly setting in with subscription services, lower commissions etc. This is not a dream but a nightmare situation that can and will eventually play out. Now any soccer mom can upload a photo and make some side money with the click of a button.  Discussuon over. Check and mate.

Check and mate? I find your argument and logic reasonably clueless. Stock producers have nothing to fear from Instagram and other sites that will never compete with specialist stock agencies. The main competition for stock media creators come from the hundreds of thousands of other stock media creators saturating the market for a piece of a pie that's not growing much. Instagram, Twenty20 and any other site that throws their hand into the stock market will just be competing for crumbs unless they can come up with a master plan to take over the stock game like SS did many years ago.

Your argument is nonsense. Stick to shooting and leave the business side of things to those with a brain. People also mocked the automobile when it came out and we know how that worked out. Just because you lack the foresight and dont have the ability to look way ahead isnt going to stop it from happening. Keep on being a dinosaur, see how far that gets you in this game, kid.

Nice one, you've just revealed yourself as an idiotic troll as opposed to a constructive contributor to this forum.

Lets see, you cant debate so you result to throwing out insults, get insulted back then you throw a hissy fit? Yes yes? I'm sorry you lack the self control and intelligence to participate in a debate but you don't have to be rude. Perhaps you'd be better off on reddit with your immature attitude. Troll elsewhere, kid.
