We need to flood them with complaints. Even though I'm in that $3,000-$10,000 tier, I'm still complaining. I just sent mine. Here's how you can send your complaint. http://submit.shutterstock.com/contact/I chose the "Other" category in the menu

For some reason if you change user name your old one still shows for threads you start. I think it always happened and I don't know why?
Yep it's always been that way. If you want yours changed, just let me know.
Oh, that's great. Thanks! I'll send you a message.
But now you need another new name
Yeah, that's right. Ugh. OK working on it...

Yeah, that needs to be fixed.

I might have missed something, but it seems like our login/username is now public, as opposed to our forum name. Speaking for myself, this seems like a change in the MSG forum. I prefer the name Striving to show up, but not my login (Author) name. If so, is there a way to go back to the old way?

Resubmit next month when the new batch of reviewers are hired and those that are harassing us now are fired or quit. Hi all,
This photo and few others from the batch has been rejected 6 (!) times at SS, due to various reasons every time (all except for legal ones, since the pictures were submitted as editorial with all the rules adhered to). I've given up with SS for this batch, but will appreciate your feedback, to improve in future, as perhaps I'm missing something...

Thanks a lot.
P.S. Needless to say, this photo has been accepted at all other major agencies from the top and middle tier. SS is such an SS...

Jo Ann for Microstock Union president. I have never uploaded to Yay Micro, but I went to have a look at Yay Images to see what they were offering.
They don't offer unlimited downloads, but unlimited streaming for $9.99 a month. The streamed image appears to be hosted on their servers and you can link to it from your blog or other online use:
https://www.yayimages.com/support/13-support/26-what-is-streaming
Are there any limits on the size you can stream? If not, it doesn't take a genius to link to a huge size, do a screen grab and save the image...
The bigger worry, IMO, is the super-low pricing for downloads and the rather ambiguous license terms (such as whether you can use a regular license, not extended, to produce up to 100 products for sale):
https://www.yayimages.com/pricing?backUrl=%2Fterms
Note that you can get 1,000 downloads (with a standard RF license) plus unlimited streaming for $99 a month. I don't see any need to commit to a year to get that price. Contrast that with SS where a one month subscription for up to 750 images is $249. You could argue that the relatively tiny selection at Yay Micro would suggest a lower price.
However, these prices are even worse than they look because you can rollover unused downloads.
Yay's extended license pricing is even worse - you get 100 extended licenses (plus the 1,000 standard) for $499 a month! I'm not sure that anyone would ever buy this - how many buyers need 100 ELs?
https://www.yayimages.com/pro-plan
Note the contradiction between the chart and the text. The chart says 1,000 RF licenses and 100 extended. The text says 900 RF licenses and 100 extended. There is also the rather odd wording "If you are making a product in less than 100 copies, you do NOT need an extended license." This suggests that you can an extended license for a 100-run limit in the standard RF price.
They also say in the support section that you can download images instead of streaming them if the service you use doesn't permit hotlinking
https://www.yayimages.com/support/13-support/29-can-i-download-the-images
So do they make any effort to police this at all?
The other thing I noticed is that you don't see the pixel dimensions of any image when searching - if I'm looking for print uses vs. a blog, that's important information. Perhaps they are assuming that blogging and online uses are primary for them?
With the entry level $9.90 a month, a buyer gets one download and unlimited streaming. If the contributor gets 50 percent and a buyer downloads one image and streams 10, what are the royalties paid for the one download and each stream? I can't find those specifics on the site.
The contract may not require them to do it, but I'd think common decency requires that if they're shuttering Yay Micro, they should pay out any balances to those who wish to leave as a result. And as their payout threshold is in euros but the prices I'm seeing are in US dollars, what exchange rate do they use to convert?
Based on what I can see of Yay Images, I wouldn't contribute images. Trying to get market traction by undercutting other agencies on price seems like a non-starter - a variation of the Dollar Photo Club.

I think there are just more images of generic subjects. Trying to find niche subjects, research them and illustrate or photograph them with the appropriate keywords could provide better opportunities for those of us with experience.

This is wrong.
They always need new ones. It is very important for the agencies that there is a flow and movement going on. Every agency encourage you to submit regulary.
Except that from time to time one agency or another rejects because they have too many of a particular subject.
Like pictures of marijuana.

Months later and they're still rejecting 95% of what I submit. The other 6 sites I contribute to have happily accepted my work with a 100% acceptance rate. This, along with their ridiculously complex upload system, makes me think they're just not worth it anymore. I will probably be pulling my portfolio. I know this does no real damage to them, I just think I'll be happier streamlining my stock work flow.
They are a huge waste of time for me as an illustrator. Submission is complex and rejections are almost 100%. Elitist snobs.

So SS has stopped sending out cards or is it just me that didn't make the grade this year?
No card for us peasants. They spent all the money giving their administrative staff at Shutterstock Tower more important things like gyms, game rooms and Pizza Fridays.

. . seriously, is it done by machine?
If you do the job, then you're at some point a "human machine". Otherwise you can not check thousands of photos every day.
I just noticed they are looking to hire an Android Engineer. So that is proof that they not only use Artificial Intelligence, but they also want to hire androids! http://www.shutterstock.com/jobs/listings

Yes, they are real people and they have Pizza Fridays, subsidized fitness plans and game rooms! http://www.shutterstock.com/jobs

I see from the Poll on the right that CanStock is showing results similar to BigStock. Does this reflect reality for most people? Is CanStock worth uploading to, or are the numbers misleading like Deposit? Has there been any improvement and/or progress at CanStock since they were integrated into Fotosearch?
As an illustrator, I have growing sales and payout every month with a portfolio of 5000+. I am very satisfied

1,000 isn't enough to make more on P5 in my opinion. I have over 5,000 there and I get a few decent sales each month. But it is surprisingly low. Like the other member said, they seem to do better with video sales. I need to try sending them my video too. Yes, you read right, I have close to 1000 images at pond5 but no sales (well almost, I made 10$ in 2 years). I produce illustrations and my images sell pretty satisfactory on other agencies.
I was gradually going down with my prices in hope to get some sales but right now I'm at 7,50$ per image and still no sales. I feel if I go lower I might as well give extended licenses for free.
What am I doing wrong? Now I'm thinking in opposite direction to drastically increase my prices to about 45$ and see if that shakes things up. Also, after some analysis I drastically changed my keywording strategy in my last batch (not approved yet), but I feel like I'm still poking in the dark.
Anyone out there making any money with illustrations at pond5, or is that a place to sell videos only?

I have used their handbook for years as a guide for graphic design business, and we even used one as a textbook in a class I took a couple of years ago. I have used their site to look for talent, but I have never really been a member.
Thanks. Any reason why you have not joined?

I am thinking of joining the Graphic Artist Guild. I'd like to know you are a member and your opinion of them (or another similar group). Maybe if enough stock illustrators join them, we could do some good for the industry.

Back to the original question, I just got a "too simple" rejection for an illustration too. It was not too simple for other agencies though. I was expecting something like "similar". I think it's just a new phrase on their rejection list, the old ones are boring.
Flag the rejection emails and resubmit them in the future. Works all the time for me.

Not surprised. Ever since they changed the payout process, I am so confused about how much they owe me and how much I can expect to be paid.

I suggest looking at Gumroad to sell digital and physical collections of images. It's a good idea to create DVDs with different collections of vector (or pics) to sell on ebay??
I can not sell my designs directly on ebay in digital format, so burn them on DVD is the only way.
anyone have any experience or any comment about this ??
