General Stock Discussion / Re: How much do models pay?
« on: September 18, 2022, 07:46 »
You also can try tfp. Maybe your models are coming to the shooting and even sign MR.
Everything is possible. You asked what we pay the models.
I Gusses its up from tfp to more.
Good luck.

You can try to pay 15 an hour. Maybe some of the models will come to the shooting.

I paid 25 an hour for each model and 25 for travels costs.
But my last shooting with models was about 5 years ago.
But there are also opportunity costs. I can use my time more profitable doing other things.
A shooting with models take about the same time as shooting a wedding.
A small wedding package is about a 1/2 day shooting and about 500 profit.
If i do a stock shooting i probably earn less money for same effort than shooting weddings.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Selling photos to russia
« on: September 04, 2022, 04:55 »
Or maybe all images bought in russia going directly to aid Ukraine.
So if Adobe ist selling one of my images in Russia, my earnings are paid to UA????????
No money and weapon to Russia and UA and the war will end soon.
Otherwise it will take years and force an economic crisis in EU

Adobe Stock / Re: Horizontal and vertical image

That is funny. A couple of months ago I attended a Behance livestream, hosted by Mat and somebody else from Adobe. They were explicitly encouraging people to shoot the subject from different angles, place the same subject right or left, shoot vertical and horizontal and submit.
I guess that is not the motto anymore then.
to shoot the subject from different angles, place the same subject right or left, shoot vertical and horizontal.........
Thats the way i do. It works fine.

General Stock Discussion / Re: How do you backup your data?
« on: August 06, 2022, 09:37 »
I don't backup. My pictures are not worth a backup HDD.
If the images are lost, its lost. I don't care.
Though i have found that its easier and better to shoot new images than search for old images on HDD.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Is Stock Photography Dead?
« on: August 06, 2022, 03:06 »
Ists not dead but images die faster.
Years ago some images have startet beginning to sale just after upload.
This images sold for years nearly every day.
Nowadays best sellers have a shorter lifetime.
The key for success in early times was creativity that made some images outstanding.
But if you want to keep your income level at stock photography you need produce much more images. This pressure was to much for some photographers and has killed the creativity.
Thats my thought comparing old and new images of some photographers.
They want to replace their best sellers with lots of uploads. The images may be better in a technical way but the creativity input of oringinal images is missing.
Its just a copy or their own or other best sellers.
There ist no new approach like it was in the early days.
If you want to be successful at stock photography you have to be more productive and still be creative.

Irony of microstock is that having invested $500 on a tilt-shift lens, a $90 sale at SS just popped in for this distorted junk shot that I uploaded in 2017! Stupid buyers!
nothing wrong with the image. In travel photography its pretty usual not to use shift optics.

84
or I may have to make a decision to turn off my photos on Shutterstock and see if photo sales on Adobe Stock increases.

2) You sell only one image/video when Shutterstock sells 10 images/videos.

Its not about the downloads.
Have been exklusive at istock in earlier times i made about $1600 a month with only 200 DL.

85
I am working for a big company. We get every week a company newsletter where are lots of images used.
This images are from the big 5 in microstock and more and more images from free sites like unsplash.
Actually i can't see any difference between microstock images and free images they use.
So we probably will see more competition between free sites and microstock.
This 10 cent downloads will be the future of microstock. With some extended licenses. But most or the downloads will be at 10 cent.
The company i am working for is paying thousands of $$$ for a advertisement image. But not from microstock. This have been mostly by Getty images. Since there is no more RM they buy nowadays  from agencies like Westend61 for Europe area usage.

86
A niche is easy to find. But images at microstock should have potential for high volume sales.
Thats is often not the case at niche images.

87
There is some kind of evolution in stock photography. First there was RM images. Then came RF. The further evolution was RF microstock.
In early times image quality at microstock was poor but improved over the years.
The next evolution is free images. If you still want to make money with stock photography you should find a way to make money with free images.

Quote from: Annie

I guess what my predictions mean is that the whole market will come full-circle. A return to RM as the only real way for photographers, and agencies, to make decent money from stock, and no more subscriptions.

There is an oversupply of images in stock photography and GettyImages is one of the large player in both - micros stock and macro stock. There is nor more RM at GettyImages. If you are uploading to an macro stock agency a lot of sales will be partner sales at Getty Images. So if Getty sells an image, you uploaded to macro stock agency X, for about $400. The macro stock agency gets about 20% = $80. You get about 50% from your macro stock agency = $40. For an $400 sale. Forget it. Stock photography will be paid worse every year.
The future is in assignment photography.

---- so you will always get your royalty rate on every subscription download at or above the minimums.----
So you get 25%, 30%. 35%. 40%....? from the $10 per DL.
Its not much for an exclusive video i think.

General - Top Sites / Re: Photos Rejected by SS
« on: May 08, 2022, 05:22 »
Actually i don't upload to shutterstock. But then i was active there i didn't care about rejections.
I shoot series with at about 8 to 10 or even more images. If there is one image rejected - so what.
Though i was wondering that shutterstock was rejecting only a few images.

91
I have found that istock and shutterstock is less interesting for me.
Stock photography is a hobby for me. I have a day job and never had enough time or motivation to upload hundreds of images a month.
So its normal that i upload some months more images, some month less.
I will retire in about 5 years. Probably i will put more effort in stock photography then. Just to keep a meaningful day routine.

92
Actually i don't check my images at Adobe Stock. I even do no stock statistics any more.
The statistic site at Adobe Stock is doing well for me.
As far i can say, i see no much difference at Adobe Stock on average DL and $$. Everything seems OK. Though i don't care about what images are selling. Maybe there have been a change, i don't know.
There are some images from 2011 to 2022. All are good enough to sell from time to time.

93
For an abo microstock agency i can't see any reason to take stolen images seriously.
These images (work) could be also available at free images site.
So what ?

iStockPhoto.com / Re: March Statements are in
« on: April 24, 2022, 09:24 »
After a truly shocking Feb, my March was my second-best month on the rolling graph, though of course not a patch on the GODs. Total swings and roundabouts.
Wow second best month. Istock still works for you?
My best months at istock have been in 2009 or so.
But nowadays i do only few stock photography. Getting more and more in wedding photography.

95
It could depend on your content. No sales since March 26th could be caused by to few images online.
Or your best sellers are gone zero.
In my experience 80% of my sales are caused by about 10% of my images.
If there are some seasonal images in your portfolio could also cause a drop in sales.
I only have images at Adobe online, so i can't compare. But i can see no difference in sales.

$0,20 at march coming from connect :-)
Closed my account at istock 2 years ago.

97
There are images for free and microstock images in a competition about downloads.
I think nowadays its better to give images away for free. If you sell images at microstock there is some extra work with tax.
The few sales don't justify this extra work.

Adobe Stock / Re: Rating: 5 stars on some Adobe photos
« on: March 23, 2022, 13:00 »
Actually i only upload 5 stars images. Its part of my workflow.
1 star - selected, 2 stars - keyworded, 3 stars- developed, 4 stars - photoshopped, 5 stars - Jpeg ready to upload.
Its useful in LR to select the wright images.

« on: March 04, 2022, 03:24 »
Fair enough. I read the OP as being concerned about price increases but maybe they meant they were concerned about money supply? Anyway, good night.

No, the OP was concerned about total price increases....

first, thanks to those who have contributed thoughtful posts.

my OP was to suggest that this was NOT inflation as normally defined and was more due to special circumstances, mostly due to covid, so as covid receds(?) we should not expect continued inflation.
Its like the inflation of the seventies. There was a temporary oil price shock to trigger inflation.
Everybody thought inflation will be temporary, but ist wasn't. People got accustomed that money is loosing value. This caused a low saving ratio to keep infbion at a high level. At the end of the seventies there has been 1% inflation - per month.
Paul Volcker fighten Inflation with 21% interest rate of the Fed successful. The Fed will rise interest rate this year to fight high inflation again. The ECB can't rise interest rate because of high debt of eurozone countries like Italy.
This means that longer ECB wait to rise interest rate that higher it will be when the ECB is forced to rise interest rate.
This will be very bad times for debtors. Get rid of all debt now, don't make new one. Debt will kill you in a few years if they are to high.
