I set all my pics at RF + extension ($1-$5) and I have actually sold a couple of extended licences there, though the amount varies depending on the number of units and price. One of illustrations on an album coverThey don't get a lot of traffic but if you have your own website you can link your thumbnails back to them. I find sales are very sporadic Their ftp and IPTC reader work well they categorize for you so if you can spare the bandwidth, why not upload.

Extended vacation I wish, failed business adventure would be a more accurate description of the time since my last post in London. With the Alamy fiasco and all the micros being so picky about travel pictures these days.
If there is interest I will restart the counting on the 10th of December

I must admit I have been very very lucky at Alamy 3,470 successful submission without any rejections. Unfortunately I had my first failed image when I had probably my biggest queue of nearly 600 images (3.75 GB uploaded between 13th and 26th of November) whilst on the road all rejected.
Not too impressed with this site no sales since the beginning of October despite dutifully disambiguating all my files.

Not sure its such a new threat as a few of the sites have been going for several years. SS at the BBCsome may be offended by Smart tools on the latest compact cameras also mean that amateur snappers do not have to be very skilled. or surprised by "Unfortunately, we need to be paid to survive. I have seen very little evidence, if any, that anyone can thrive on a microstock income," says Betsy Reid from the Stock Artists Alliance. I am sure when i started uploading there (about 18 months ago) they had about 6 million files.
They have a nice graphical effect set up and to mark the occasion they are giving an extra 10% commission to our contributors for any sales they make today. So fingers crossed

FTP worked fine for me over the weekend, though the transfer may have been a bit slow.
91
« on: September 14, 2007, 14:25 »
It would be nice if they would send out a group e-mail to say FTP has been suspended whilst we upgrade and another one when it is working again.
I can see all my files on the server not in my unfinished files, hopefully they will be transferred across soon.
I suppose I prefer this glitch than the one of last weekend where they let us categorize them and then lost them.
On the bright side the buyers are still buying.

There was a bug in the importing system from the FTP. Unfortunately, this caused many images to be lost during the import. This only affected images uploaded from Friday-Monday. We kindly ask that you re-upload these images So anything uploaded and categorized from Friday 7th to Monday 10th of September may have disappeared from your pending files list so check

Yep sales at FP are pretty dire I would agree if you ahve your website and the time it would be a good idea to link it back to the photo at Featurepics you can also sell eps files there (they sell for the maximum price)
Shannon regarding FTPing to FP I had trouble at first, try copy and pasting all three bits of info (address, user, password) into the boxes of Filezilla each time you want to upload. As Filezilla seems to forget the long series of letters in the address after sierra/featurepics.com so you get "critical transfer error"

I know this is a really old thread but I was updating my microstock guide and I noticed the websites for the IPTC editors irfanview and pixvue are no longer active Exifer is still going strong but I was never keen on it are there any other free IPTC editors out there?

In my experience keywording at Alamy is a bit strange as they have a description box where some folk seem to write assays.
I was recently contemplating whether to upload some photos of St Andrews castle to Alamy or the micros, it gives very few results at the micros but not many sales. When I searched at Alamy for "St Andrews castle fife" i found images of lighthouses and sail boats in Fife which fortunately appeared towards the end of the search but still ahead of genuine results.
One word of warning there is a six month wait to delete an image and once an image is uploaded as RF you can't switch it to RM or vice versa unless you request deletion wait 6 months and upload again. I have heard of one exception of someone switching their entire portfolio from RM - RF but I think it was a rather rare occurance.
Has anyone ever had images rejected?

Thanks Madelaide I got a bit confused with all the different agencies sometimes when you click on request payment there are no further steps or choices. DT does indeed give you a choice of three PP MB or check.
