Canva / Re: More ''Good news'' from Canva :-/
« on: November 23, 2019, 09:06 »
Here's what I got back:
"To answer your question about royalties, revenue will be calculated based on the subscriber share model, which means that we distribute 50% of revenue to contributors shared based on the number of sales made by each photographer.

In regards to opting out, you just have to give me the word and I'll take your name off the list. That said, opting out of the subscription unfortunately automatically means your images won't appear anywhere in Canva :(

Can I suggest that you give it a month or so and see if you're happy with it, and you may opt out at any stage thereafter?"

Opt out and your images are noware? How sarcastic and flip-it, and with that deal they are the only ones making money

Thats not an opt out.. thats it ..Im looking to leave too!

Oh my... :-\

Why do they all compare themselves to entertainment websites?
Who is that stupid there to think that watching a movie and licensing a movie are the same?

Netflix pays miilions to its "contributors" to buy their content to add to their collection!
They pay literally millions of dollars to comedians, filmmakers etc. to be able to stream their products on their platform!

And you can't download and use a movie from Netflix!

Either they are idiots, or they think we are :D
YES! I agree!!

Pond5 / Re: Non exclusive will be cut to 40% on pond5
« on: April 09, 2019, 14:30 »
what does it matter which sites pay more or not, its about taking another pay cut"!

Maybe for you? I just got a raise and removed everything from places that only paid 15-20% before.

I think what some people might be trying to point out is that Pond5 still pays double what most of the industry calls standard.

Yes you are right, they did cut commissions. Seems to be SOP for Microstock sites doesn't it.

Then we write messages on the forum, get indigestion, get angry and nothing changes. Next month someplace else will find another way to reduce our pay and keep more for the company. Nope, I don't like it, but I'm not going to dwell on a change that was announced March 21st by Pond5.

As I have said and others also, many times, if you don't like it, don't supply them. That's not just a nasty comment. I have removed all my files from close to 20 sites. I make selective uploads based on what sites I like or don't. Which means, I stopped uploading to IS just after ESP and Getty, and I'll take the pittance they send me monthly, but I won't send anything new.

We are not victims if we choose to upload or participate, on any sites. We have a choice?

My choice was stick with Pond5 video exclusive, and upload what I think will do best on SS and AS for photos, sometimes toss a bone to AL or DT. That's all. I didn't like the way the others treated me, or the low commission, I walked and took my work with me.

That's the only power and control we have. The choice where we allow our work to be sold. If more people did that, the little parasite and bottom feeding agencies wouldn't have the quality of materials and buyers would eventually migrate to the smaller number of better paying, good content sites.
Well said, I concur :)

Which sites pay a higher percentage?

They don't market themselves as "caring so much about artists"
The sites that pay more than 40% don't market themselves as caring?

P5 did when they needed to attract more artists. Now they have enough material to become "just business" like everyone else.
Ok so which sites pay more than 40%?

Storyblocks (50%), Envato (45%), Dreamstime (45% for each video with more than 25 downloads), 123RF (up to 60% based on your contributor rank).
Storyblocks promotes its own content and third party sales get less (what % of sales are these and what % do you get?), Envato has about 2% of videos priced at $79 or more and 33% priced at $10 or less, Dreamstime takes about 50 sales of each file to reach 40% on average, 123rf you would need about 90 HD sales a year to reach 40%.  I wouldn't choose any of those sites over P5 besides low sales you almost certainly won't get even the same % but if all your videos on DT have 50 sales, you get 90 HD sales a year at 123RF, and you don't contribute to any of the lower paying sites then by all means you should be upset. ;)

Im with YOU! Im exclusive with pond5  for my animations and ALL my new illustrations are going there only!

I was just going to post to see if anyone is leaving SB.  I think I am going to close my account there. My 3-4 sales a month has gone to zero a month once they made the "good news" announcement.
Yes and it would have been nice if the cash out min was changed from $25 to $24

This could be the sweet spot that ISTOCK missed if they stick to this, if they put in what they say..., I would much rather get %50 with a real partner, than %100 of being invisible like having your own site or a passive partner set up.

ISTOCK back in the day had advertising and a low price that turned into a good price for all, that could have been gently tweaked instead of gouged to support the growing co.

They would have continued to stand out with having original content.

But have they actually closed iStock to new contributors? Nobody's answered the original question.

It's like if a drunk asks you to help him find his car keys.  You try to discourage and distract him.

LOL!! I left before connect was a thing, how crappy!

iStockPhoto.com / From Getty With Love...

Yes to both. You reached your level or quota for 2017, in thanks for your hard work they're raising that so you won't be able to make as much next year. Which means they will pocket more of your hard earned money.
Ive actually been consolidating agencies I work with, Im hoping my sales will eventually concentrate more. Also it will slightly minimise theft if Im not selling on every site out there.

With Getty I was feeling like a small child where adults were talking above me so I wouldnt understand them... thats Getty making checking stats more difficult, some odd named site to login a certain way, 2 company names, 20 collections , figuring the math of your targets that are always moving out of your reach...they like things very opaque ...  The K. I.S.S. Method works best

That is sooo deflating! Wind out is sails!

This is the first time ever that I won't make the $35.00 min Payout for this month of September--2017.  I am sadden.
???? Is this a new policy, did I miss something

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No, I think it has been Shutterstock's policy to sadden contributors for a good while now.

Best comment here
YES..... and I just realised I misunderstood and thought that SS upped the minimum payout... LOL

I AGREE microstock is getting worse by the day

General Stock Discussion / Re: GraphicStock Has It Right
« on: August 05, 2017, 13:21 »
Received an email from Deposit Photos this morning asking me to re-activate the partner program on their site because GraphicStock wants to include my images from DP.

I'm already submitting directly to GS so it is a bit concerning to hear they are going after third party suppliers. Especially ones like Deposit Photos. Disappointing if direct submitters at GS are going to be swamped by images from 3rd party deals.

As an aside, I can only assume that a $3.99 sale at GS becomes a .33 cent payout on DP.
Another great reason to always optout of 3rd party sales

Istock / getty didn't care the least bit about angering contributors, they modified licenses and moved around stuff showing a big middle finger, no problemo
Thats why i left istock yhis year after being with then since 2004, this sounds interesting, i too received sn email
