I think the biggest risk for a traveler in India is the food! ;D
Buffalo is quite tasty by all accounts.....

Oh buffalo. You know you've got that when the butcher said it was beef when you're still chewing your first mouthful at 3 in the morning.

And mutton is goat, and lamb is goat. Who knows what goat is because i've never seen it on the menu - maybe lamb?
Do they have Tesco's in India ? .Must have a few  McDonalds or Burger King's ?

$1000 from 1844 images makes me happy to be independent :)
It's pocket money from my hobby.I have neither the time or the notion to upload to a variety of microstock sites chasing money that is guaranteed from my day job !

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Can you cancel a Scout ticket?
« on: June 30, 2011, 13:31 »
I once added information to a Scout ticket...."oops a daisy i now see what the inspector saw" A reply came through that the ticket was cancelled and thanks for contacting us.....
Just try the same Liz or just forget about them for the time being until you hear an outcome.

In future it's always best to raise a ticket to support via the help tab.Not sure what you gain by raising the point on an independant  forum !
Actually it is a more relevant subject than other threads. Someone may have the answer and that's the purpose of this forum.
.
Someone gets payed by Istockphoto to answer questions and concerns of its contributors.
I thought the purpose of this forum was to meet strangers and engage in foreplay before getting down to business ........

I'm curious how you all deal with your camera equipment on these trips. I just can't see myself taking lots of gear, for fear its going to get swiped either during a shoot, or somewhere in between. This is especially the case given I don't see myself spending the money for high end hotels where I know a safe will likely exist. Sure insurance exists, but beyond recovering the cost of lost equipment, this won't salvage trip wasted due to lack of gear. Thoughts?

Even considered going totally minimalist, and investing in a high end point and shoot that can take decent shots when light is decent.

.
When i'm in India, getting valid concerns by the family on why i should not go !, i shall have one camera, one lense and 51 years expierance of life.I will be just fine.

So if we had the choice we would focus on the shooting and hand the editing over to A.Other.

Some people enjoy there jobs. Most find it a means to an end.
Do professional photographers enjoy photography???
I enjoy photography but it certainly aint my job which is in engineering..welding.

" Can you please take a look at my portfolio and tell me why i am not selling many of my photographs." How many times do we need to read that on the forums.
No-one needs to share there knowledge. The good selling files are pretty much staring contributors in the face.Go do the same....
The good critique i once recieved was about basic photography but i never  needed to enquire about what sells.I have tryed to return that helpful advice in the last few years but realised not many people are prepared to work hard if the sales are not guaranteed and they certaintly aint !
Do  Pro's still enjoy photography even though it's a job?

Lol I misread it in the first place (I was thinking of 4th of June). I'm not a yank so it totally slipped my mind that it's the date of a national holiday. It's great seeing them keeping our money till the last possible day as usually. I should have gotten that raise 3 months earlier >:( (but of course they didn't stick to the RC announcement dates. Twice).
Congrats on getting your target early. In future it's always best to raise a ticket to support via the help tab.Not sure what you gain by raising the point on an independant  forum !
BTW-i'm sure the staff pay for there own holidays out of there salaries  ::)

Getting a Visa is going to be a PITTA imo....

getting a visa is  easy and straightforward - i had mine within a week -- all the info you need is online
Well i got the impression i apply online/download the application/sign and send two photos/my british passport/money and then need to be seen in person.Sent them an email for clarification.
I am going as a tourist  but a good titp not to mention photography. Thanks
Make sure you send it whatever the modern equivalent of registered post is (?special delivery?), and that your SAE is also registered. Also do it well in advance. They say four weeks, but you want if possible at least 8 in case things go wrong. Mine came back within a week, but that was a while - too long! - ago.
Well i certainly want it to hand before booking hotel and flight....
Oh and i dont eat curry so whats tasty in india?

Ouch I hadn't tried that bottom slider. That's nasty. Can't wait to read about sales results.
How do you think reading about other contributors sales will have any bearing or direct impact on yourself that the new filter has been a success or failure?
It's sole purpose is to help designers narrow down there search at the price point there willing to pay. It's only helpful to designers who use Istockphoto and hardly likely to bring more traffic/new clients to the site IMO.

General Photography Discussion / Re: Cost of Photography
« on: June 27, 2011, 13:55 »
Just a quick comment about a reflector/diffuser.I dont own one yet!
My first expierance using this piece of kit was on Brighton beach shooting a family during an Istockphoto Lypse.I was composing a shot of a family and i had Carol Gomez(fellow istock contributor) diffusing the sunlight up to my right.I was just going to take a shot and Andrew Johnson(fellow istock contributor) positioned the reflector.I was looking through the viewfinder when the sunlight reflected up upon the family. It was certainly a WOW moment and realised then how an inexpensive piece of kit can transform a portrait.
The cost of photography to myself is minimul...My upgrade of kit,i'm on my 4th DSLR in 3 years,is payed for by the money earned from shooting microstock.

Mantis, thanks for your post. Some shoot and then ask....
I found shooting editorial in London recently that if you first approach people in a friendly manner they mostly agree to be photographed. However in that situation it's difficult not to get a 'staged'/'posed' shot as the subject is now aware of your presence.
I can also imagine language/communicating will be a problem for me.

Personally, just because the person allows you to photograph him, that doesn't give you the right to sell those images, even as RM. I would be very selective regarding how to use these photos.
These will be getting sold as editorial..Real people, real situtations....
