Instead of congratulating Whitechild, you humiliate him for his success?

It's truly a sad day in microstock forum if some of you can be so envious as to take a stab at one of your peers.

"some of you" ? The only posting I see that fits that criteria was the totally unpleasant one from gostwyck. I hope you are not including my comments, as I was genuinely congratulating Ivan on getting accepted at Veer. The reference to the Cat and Dog photo was humerous and this image is indeed legendary (there's a thread here somewhere, and the story has turned up on other blogs as well). Just wanted to clarify that because anyone reading this thread might presume (wrongly) that you are including me in the "some of you" . Regards, David

Yeah, I was joking about the cat and dog image. It's taken on a life of its own.

Congratulations all!

I'm also one of those that doesn't seem to have made the cut - granted I only submitted 84 images out of a portfolio of around 2500 - but - the sales record for SV and upload process and performance of the site left a lot to be desired.

In all I only made $32 there  - but even when sales were recorded, there was no process of notification, and the payment that should have happened automatically only came through after a specific enquiry.

I can't see how alienating those who did put effort into a failing site through blanket rejections - apparently without any sort of review helps to create goodwill from people many of whom will be both contributors AND clients. Surely if you're starting up a new enterprise you can do better than that?

Hi Pat, I was going to let this one go and not post anymore on this subject, but yes you and I were having some fun with this now famous image. Neither of us were putting Ivan down at all. Total congratulations  to anyone from SV that got ported to Veer. Maybe some "new members" don't always get the joke. As for the "snr. member" posting I just cannot believe the vitriol in that. Why? We all come on this forum with differrent levels of experience and sales and I would hope all encourage and help each other. I am personally disgusted by that posting and I believe it is totally not in keeping with this forum. Regards, David

Interestingly, I haven't been transferred either (1,400 images at SV). I don't see it as a great loss, at least not for now, but when I look at images and portfolios that have been accepted, and that cover the same themes as I do, I'm not sure if I agree with them. Some themes that do very well for me are simply not covered at all. It will be interesting to see how they develop.

Edit:
I'm far too kind in my characteristics. I did a few searches from a buyers point of view, and the "young-smiling-girl-in-office" and some other mainstream themes seem to be well covered, but get a tiny bit off the beaten track and there are very big holes. These guys need all the photos they can get, and I wonder why they've limited the transfer from SV at all. As a buyer, I search at agencies that offer a wide variety of themes. If this is what Veer is planning to offer initially, they're already off my list.

A few examples: A search for "Business jet" gives 22 hits at Veer, of which two show a business jet. "Lotus flower" on the other hand, gives 140 hits, and most of them are at least water lilies. Very few lotus flowers though. "Hanoi" gives one hit (people do buy travel photos, at least from my portfolio), and it's not even a good photo. I'm afraid they have a long way to go...

It is a loss, uploading that many images by their snappycrappy upload ordeal. Veer might have a very good name in the MR or high end stock world, but if they inherited any of the staff and/or programmers from SV, they will fail in the microstock world. As it looks now, Veer-microstockmarketplace is just a new starting ms site. It remains to be seen if they can adapt to the different market approach of microstock. SV wasn't exactly a high flier, to say the least. The worst thing for their existing contributors could be that the existing customers would turn to the microstock branch and they will be cannibalized. Tricky game.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating of course, but I'm not that sure I'd like to even taste it, after the bad taste that SV left behind. After all, we already have Crestock to hate and iStock to bash.  :P

Yes, but the staff will have nice 'holidays' while they are 'brainstorming'.
I won't forgive them for that one. It was unforgivable for them to take that freebie while starting a new site.
Nothing came of it except their tans.

I got accepted, even though I have not uploaded anything for months and months, and I am a female.

It looks like they are still transferring a lot of images from SV.  I was accepted but can't see mine on their site yet.  Lets wait and see what it is like when they launch next month.

sharpshot, if i read my email correctly, we will get an invitation email from Veers with our password sometime around June 8 , so i guess by that time we will have our port there.

did you check your bulk mail? may have gone there via your spam filter.
if not, maybe if you double check you got your email correctly on SV, then maybe send them a mail.
no harm in doing that .
or you can just wait till June 8 to submit directly . hope this helps.

You are already on iStock, why do you ask? :)

I had about 1000 images on SV, and now I have about 250 on VMP.

What bothers me is that some of my images are small 3 to 4 MP, and they still seem to sell them in big (upsized?) sizes... they must look like crap... :o

They seem to have selected images that have a certain "Veer" look, too bad they excluded many bestsellers.

I'm kind of wondering about that, too.  I was able to find my gallery there, and it's just a small portion of what I have on SV.  Back when the StockXpert/photos.com/JIU thing erupted, they indicated that all StockXpert images would be available on the other sites.  I've found several of my images that are available on StockXpert, but are not on photos.com/JIU.  I suspect that there really was a screening process, and I'm wondering if there will be something similar with the transition to Veer.

Then that begs the question, if some of our images which sell well on other sites are "screened" out by Veer, would there be anything preventing a contributor to go through the normal submission channel with their "screened-out" images?

Hi Jsolie and Perry -

The rest of your portfolios will be loaded soon.
The content that went up last weekend was just a partial load - we wanted to start getting content live as soon as possible, at the cost of not having your entire batch go live at once.

More will be rolling out onto the site over the coming weeks.

- Brian
