Hi everyone,

Veer Marketplace is now live on Veer.com.  Check it out:
http://www.veer.com/marketplace

This phase one launch features the first batch of SV contributors to be moved over to Veer.  More SV contributors will be moved over the next couple of months.  And then in spring/summer we'll have the full Marketplace site up and running, so contributors can upload their images directly to Veer.

Let us know what you think and feel free to ask Brian and I any questions.

Aaron

ps.  The announcement of "A Brand New Low" is a tongue and check reference to pricing.  Veer customers are smart design nerds so they love the inside jokes.

So....how do we contribute directly to the site.  The main reason I never contibuted much to Snap Village is because of the painful upload process.  I got so frustrated that I just deleted most of them....

So do you take every contributor from snapvillage? I am not yet on Veer I just discovered. Will I be there automatically when I am on Snapvillage?

We'll be accepting direct submissions to Veer Marketplace in spring/summer once the upload tool is launched.

For now, you can submit your contact details here and then we'll contact you when it's ready to go:

http://submissions.veer.com

 OK, I'll just wait..

SV contributors that are not moved over will be welcome to submit to Veer Marketplace after the spring/summer launch.  We'll have more guidance on the site as to our criteria and the Community Content Editors will also be there to provide feedback so everyone has a clear idea of what we're looking for.

Just to clarify, we don't need to do anything in order to be moved over to Veer, correct? Like I don't need to set up an account at Veer... assuming I'm selected to be transferred over, it's all automatic? And I suppose I will just be able to log in at Veer using the same login I used at SnapVillage?

I have the same questions as helix7 and why do we need to submit our contact details again? You already have them!

Edit:

Oh you answered before I asked!

Will Veer Marketplace be truly open to photographers from around the globe, or will they also limit their contributors to those few countries that are supported by PayPal. I joined SV right in the beginning, but had to delete my images when I realized that SV have no intention of paying contributors in countries not supported by PayPal. I still have an account at SV, but no images. I will be interested to contribute to Veer Marketplace, but only if I can get paid.

I just left my info.  There was no way to sign up just to Veer Marketplace so I submitted my application to Veer.

I will be interested in submitting to Veer Marketplace when that option is available.  Please keep us posted here :)

Aaron,

Looks good, however the image search seems to generate thumbnails very slowly.

There is something strange with the questionnaire. I filled it in, but after pressing submit the form is displayed again, but with many more entry fields and questions than before. A bug?

Hm, much worse: After submitting the questionnaire I received a mail delivery notice from [email protected]:

Delivery to the following recipients failed.

So it's on before all accounts are transferred from SV, right? How long it will take to transfer accounts? Shall I wait or apply for account at Veer Marketplace?

If you try to browse through the markteplace via categories it switches back to normal veer as soon as you click the next site. Search also seems only to work for normal veer.

What is the search results order? It seems no matter which subject I search for, especially people related,  I get images from Yuri Arcurs portfolio first:) Does your relevance search go something like this: "show whatever matches from Yuri's porfolio and then everything else"?:-) His stuff is good, no question, but what about the rest of us? I don't think I will be able to sell anything if my images consistently show up on page 25...

The site works fine for me but it would be nice if you did rotate the images when searching for certain images so everyone at a giving time would have their images
in the front pages :)

Elena -

Good question. And no, we haven't built a "Yuri first" search engine.  ;)

Short answer: it's a work in progress.

Longer answer:  Veer Marketplace search results will be evolving over the coming months - not only as new images are moved from SnapVillage to the Marketplace collection - but also as we hit the full Veer Marketplace launch later this year. There's a lot in play here but a few points: it's a limited set of images right now - Yuri has a pretty big chunk - and a very high percentage of his shots are of people. Some of it also has to do with when batches were loaded.

Sort order is complicated - and it's only natural that everyone wants to be on page one. But it's hard to please everyone all of the time.
Having said that - we're looking at ways of creating more movement within results to spread the love (and sales) around.

Hi Zeus, until Veer Marketplace is fully launched in spring/summer, sales will be reported and paid to contributors via SnapVillage.

Just to clarify Aaron's answer a bit more:

Phase 1 Veer Marketplace sales and royalties reports will be processed every 30 days. Marketplace sales will not be reported "live" on SnapVillage, but you will receive complete sales reports.  Royalties will be paid directly to the PayPal address associated with your SnapVillage account. The full launch will enable sales and royalty reporting tools directly within Veer Marketplace.

Will Veer leave our keywords alone? SV used to alter my keywords for the worst, that's one of the reasons I stopped uploading there.

Am I seeing things correctly? That I can add these images to my cart right alongside images from the macro side, and pay for the whole thing by PO like I always have?

Hi FlemishDreams -

On Veer Marketplace submitted keywords will be mapped to the Veer controlled vocabulary. This will give you all kinds of benefits - taking care of synonyms and spelling variants, and include a plethora of walk-ups and lead-ins. Really powerful/cool stuff that we didn't have on SnapVillage. The Veer CV is deep, so it's very likely most all of your submitted keywords should map no problem.

We'll be working to develop some keywording resources to help Marketplace contributors understand and best utilize the CV.  In the end - it's about presenting relevant results to customers, and ensuring that images have good 'findability'  - both important factors in helping to drive sales.
The new system will be much better suited to achieve those goals.

CV is the way to go, but as the iStock experience learned, it puts a lot of overhead on the contributors (in terms of disambiguation etc), especially since microstock is a numbers game. I'm curious with what you will come up with!

Yes, I think it is. The huge difference that I see is that I can use a corporate account and one shopping cart to make purchases seamlessly from the entire collection, micro and macro, with a single PO number, without the clunkiness of having to switch between two payment systems. I don't have to purchase a huge number of credits in advance a la istock corporate and subscriptions. I don't have to make client purchases out of my pocket and then later be reimbursed, a la everyone else.

Sorry to gush.  :D

I already see most of my SV images moved over.

I had stopped submitting to SV due to low sales, however, I am excited about the prospect of Veer Marketplace and will be closely watching their progress and hope to start submitting again. I like the different product offerings on the same site, this could be an interesting development.

Hi Freedom -

Do you mean the review time for images submitted to SnapVillage?
Or account reviews for transfer to Veer Marketplace?  Not sure if I'm 100% clear on your question, so I'll try to answer both:

Yes, your images will still be reviewed if submitted to SnapVillage now.
Review times on SnapVillage are currently running long (we've seen an uptick in submissions since the Marketplace announcement) - currently about ~8.5 days on average.

SnapVillage portfolio reviews for transfer to Veer Marketplace are fully underway now.
This process will be ongoing - it will likely take some time.

After this intial portfolio review process is complete, we'll then be checking new accounts (those created after mid-February).

Portfolios will be moved in batches over the coming months, this will continue until the full Marketplace launch.

Hope this helps.

- Brian

I agree, it's a very positive thing. Right now the company I work for has both a Veer account and an istock corporate account, but the istock account is clunky and lacks some basic record-keeping and PO functionality. You can't even assign internal PO numbers or job numbers to a single istock image purchase, just to a credit purchase (which is pretty much useless). But this combined Veer offering looks like it might be the ideal solution. Just need to wait until the marketplace is populated with enough images.

Hi Fyletto -

If you completed the Product Submission Questionnaire on Veer.com, it can sometimes take us a little while to get back to you.
I'll check for yours and respond to you directly ASAP.

Yes - we'll be sure to make it loud and clear to everyone.
Actually, check back here or on the Marketplace Group on Veer Ideas a bit later today - we'll be posting some updates relating to that very question.  ;)
