Well, it took me 12 days, but I broke $100.  Reminds me of iStock in 2005. :)  Just Fyi...

Took 7 days for the next $100.  So, things are going ok, I think.
Good to hear, SS rocks with sales. I would love to rise my portfolio from 0 to 1130 also in one month :D ^^

How do you download 42 gigabytes of images without alarm bells going off?

Once I had someone download 50 of my images, I always thought that was fishy.
e.g. could be some person in big agency, they have DB of img they bought. And he just stole it. :)

Computer Hardware / Re: Which PC or MAC would you buy "now"?
« on: January 14, 2014, 17:09 »
I am PC builder for 15 years :) I  would buy all parts and build it. Best solution for performance and scalability for the money + I love building my machine.

But if you are not, I make it easy. Here is the answer in two scenarios :

 - If you want easy setup, worry free OS and you are fine with paying more - buy MAC
 - If you want best performance and save some money for lens e.g., and you are fine with handling Win7/8 (I hate w8) - buy PC

:) enjoy

It was 4 days ago... still waiting ;)

ShadySue , didn't get respond still?  ::)
I received human reply after 6 days.

107
How long does it take for their respond? I'm still waiting after my email asking for deactivating all PF...

I've got an outstanding ticket (on a different subject) dated 6th December.

2010? :))

iStockPhoto.com / Payment received after I cancel my account.
« on: January 13, 2014, 16:08 »
So just to let anyone know, that it can take quite a while when you cancel your account on istock to get the money.
To be clear they stated that it will  take like 60 days, so anyway I'm glad they send it.

17.10.2013 - "Your account has now been closed as requested and final payment details have been sent to accounting to payout after 30 days to include any partner program royalties earned. Note that partner royalties are ingested the following month, therefore in order to ensure that we pay out all monies owed to you, it may take up to 60 days before your account balance is closed. "

So be patient. I had there $29.

I canceled on : October 11, 2013, 08:19
Payment received : Jan 13, 2014, 08:01:06 PST

I almost forgot :)

Here is mail I just received. What do you think about 500px go commercial way.

Preview the 500px Commercial Licensing Marketplace

Hi there!

On the heels of our 500px Marketplace relaunch, we are hard at work building a brand new commercial licensing marketplace based on the feedback of our 500px Community.

This new marketplace will service commercial licensors of photography from the news, editorial, advertising and various other communities who are interested in licensing work by members of the 500px community.

If you are interested in commercially licensed photography from 500px, join our mailing list to be kept updated on our progress toward launch. Member photographers on 500px are being reached on an individual basis, based on their online portfolio, to participate in our pre-launch program.

Thanks!

I think if you do it this way, you will end up to make someone unhappy.. that's why usually it is easier to get models, at least you paid and no trouble.

I will feel strange that I see my photos end up in some place but i got nothing real return.

even a friend or relatives may think you are taking their advantages i guess.

I understand it is somehow double edge sword this way, the thing is, as loop said lot of people like to have kids in ads and here don't care about it too much, and lot of them want to have a picture well made, and they don't want to pay big money for it.
But you gave me an idea, maybe I can make flyer "kid models wanted" and offer to pay them, and if they decide they love the images, I can offer them prints and have the money back.

Hmmm, it is sensitive area, when you are talking about kids :/ any other tips ?

113
Hi everyone,

I live in an area where we have tons of small kids and young families.

I don't want to go the classic way, shoot clients offering prints etc. I would like to offer them free shooting for signing a model release. I want to make it very clear. So they understand what they are signing, but not too offending. We have one big playground with advertisement board, where I would like to put there some kind of flyer and then follow up with personal meeting.

Does anyone have any tips for the right wording that you tried and it worked.

I don't want to use word free, as in fact it is not free, it is trade, I'm giving them photos and online gallery, they are giving me release?

Thanks for any  tips.

« on: October 11, 2013, 08:19 »
I hope I can help out with the site performance. I just asked for my account to be deleted. (After having deactivated my images there a few years ago already).

Yeah, so I finally decided too, I didnt upload anything like for a year, 0 sales on my very small port there, so there is no reason to continue on this wrecking ship :D

I deactivated all images (thanks SL for the greasemonkey script, saved me today like 2 hours at lest) and I requested to close my account.

Time to scale up my photo skills and move to stocksy or offset haha :D

Shutterstock.com / Re: New rules for editorials (again)
« on: September 06, 2013, 12:34 »
Basically it should be clarified in Terms of agreement. Something like, by uploading editorial content, you agree to these terms and conditions.

I am selling to one of our country biggest news agency, got FTP and just upload it. This is how it must work to provide newsworthy images in time.

No badges, no reviews, nothing.

119
You have to love this part :

Randall Whitestone, a Carlyle spokesman, declined to comment and referred questions to the company. Jodi Einhorn, a Getty spokeswoman, didnt return a telephone call seeking comment on the Moodys action.

« on: August 22, 2013, 05:17 »
Go Symbiostock, if you do, please be my referral so I can get the bonus for the premium version. Thanks.  :)

Did try, but to be honest, the website management is too painful, I had troubles with uploads, publishing, design etc. I figure out most of the problems, but still, I dont want to spend my time on that. That's why I also use squarespace instead of my own programmed page, even though I own a webhosting for 20 domains. I just like to pay some fee for the services and focus on shooting and pictures. It is a good trade of for me.
But I understand it in a long run, having own website, eshop is at the end financially better choice.

« on: August 22, 2013, 05:00 »
Hi everyone, as there is new rebuild smugmug, it caught my attention....again :)

Is anyone having luck selling pictures there downloads/prints/merch ?

I was thinking about test the eshop there for customers from sports venues I shoot as an very easy way how to get prints without asking photographer etc. + putting there stock photos also.

Any experience good/bad ?

Thank you

Off Topic / Re: Will the Cell Phone Replace the dSLR?
« on: July 26, 2013, 05:02 »
I was shooting one dinner banquet for 80 people one month ago for one agency, with one of the most famous master chef in our republic.

Guess what, when he came from the kitchen, and people wanted a picture, noone was coming to me. they pushed me away, and all of them took a picture to the cell phone to share it on g+, facebook etc. I was actually glad, as I had a little bit of free time because of that.

BUT ! Of course the agency was requesting excellent pictures (and it was during afternoon 17-23 with sunset and then low light conditions) Would the smartphones deliver these pictures ? Nope.

So yes the smartphones have their place right now right here in the photography. But it is not the place where you get hired&paid.

ps. the agency did the mistake last year, low quality photos from cheaper camera results in almost non publishable content. But they had to. The image for the company? Not good.
