I just started to make first 4K videos on my 1DX Mark II and was wondering, if I should shoot in Pal 50fps or NTCS 60fps.

I assume that from the creator point of view it doesn't matter too much, they can convert it. I was thinking much more from the marketing point of view, to have in titles 60FPS.

Does it make sense or I'm totally off? :)

For me the only choice on Mac was Photo Mechanic, because I shoot thousands of sports editorial pictures. There is nothing faster for photo selection. But after that, I am sending the selected ones to LR or PS. Sometimes I use only Exposure, which might be a great choice for you, as it also manages pictures quite well. Both can be bought, no subsc.

For me the credentials response from SS is around 3-4days. I shoot sports as well and I submit always with a case number just to be sure.

It also depends if you area can legally support the co-op model.  As there are lots of rules and legalities that Stocksy has to follow.  It isn't just a bunch of people getting together.  It provides safeguards.
Yes Sean, we have it in legislation, it can be setup.

Good point, well they need experienced photojournalists, and there is not many of them, but you reminded me of another risk and that is the quality. I saw totally crappy photos here on newspaper main page, and they just dont care. I will have to select very carefully the market we would be after.

One more tip: before jumping you can do some research: identify the potential buyers, divide them into categories and just talk to them. Ask them if there is something that they miss in the current model, if there is something that should be improved, something that irritates them. And if you do this and that better, would they surely switch to your co-op or not?

Starting an agency and hoping that the buyers will 'just come' might not be a good idea. The buyers decide the fate of an agency, so they should be able to give you the best answers. Just my opinion.

Thanks a lot for the advice, it is totally true. I have experience in the sports photography field and distribution, but will need to rump up the sales staff, and as you said talk to the newspapers and publishers.

Hi everyone,

I would like to get your views on an idea that for me seems like good one, but it is always good to see other people's point of view.

In our small country Czech Republic, there is at this moment quite big disappointment with how the sports photographers are contracted and paid. Agencies are similar like istock or getty, paying dimes for these photos. My idea was to replicate what Stocksy did but in sports editorial field. I already have few photographers that will be willing to contribute to a new agency that will have the co-op model.

There is no big problem to get accreditations, we all are members of press news photographers association.   

Competition : the big newspapers (where photographers are unhappy as well). 3-4 national news agencies, ripping off photographers as well.

Risks:
  - mainly getting more photogs on board
  - get enough press publications willing to contribute
  - longevity of sports editorial photos

Funding : possible EU funding

What do you think, can stocksy model be replicated in sports editorial field?

Although I understand AP wants a market cut in US from Getty. I dont understand the business model.
So AP is selling RM editorial at much higher prices, and just btw they throw all to SS as RF editorial for pennies ??  Am I missing something?

Wow. Is there anything to be made of the Getty graph? They've dropped off dramatically more than the micros have picked up. Is there another macro service that's made up for it?
I dont think so, my wife is a designer and I remember back then, Getty was for her a go to site for really good pictures for webdesign etc. After the micro picked almost the same RF content and quality she immediately switch to iStock, than later on to deposit, fotolia and shutterstock. I think this is what happened in the industry for tons of designers, bloggers etc.

From time to time, I run google trends on our popular stock agencies names. It is quite interesting to see the changes over the time.
What is really strange though, is the presence or actually the absence of Alamy in those statistics. I know they are primarily in UK but anyway.

It happened to me to set unintentionally some photos as RM on Alamy
Then I wrote them asking to change it in RF and they did it it very fast.
So yes their support is very good.

Their system is a little tricky by the way It would be more simple to have the possibility to set a kind of licence as preference, and then change it for the single image if necessary.

But all the Alamy system is unnecessarily complex.
It remembers me the old French adage "Why to do it simple when you can do it complex?"

You can set a default licence - just go to Manage Images, select "Defaults and Pseudonyms" from the top and make your choice.  :)

With the release of the new tools (coming soon) you'll be able to select RF editorial too.

I always wondered if the "News" websites when buying non perpetual RM license are actually removing images after the expiration date?

Example :
On Alamy I sold RM image with End date: 01 January 2021
The Country: Germany
Usage: Editorial
Media: Editorial website

I doubt that in the modern times they actually have a system to track this, in the quantity of images they use every day.

Is here anyone with real experience?

The only way how to profit from this, is probably the increase in SS editorial customers that will use it because of AP content. So basically we can reach bigger audience. Not sure how it will end up :) any thoughts?

Shutterstock signed a three-year deal with the Associated Press, giving U.S. clients the ability to license the news agencys daily and archived photo and video assets.

Shutterstock customers in the States will be able to license more than 30 million photos from AP Images and nearly 2 million video clips from AP Archive for editorial use. Shutterstock currently expects images from AP to be available starting next month, with video footage to be made available later in 2016.

Well, this is not particular a good news. For those of us, selling editorial stuff on SS, this could kill any sales. Until now, if you shot e.g. a sport event, you were one of really few who uploaded to SS, and those images are selling quite well.
With AP daily coverage and archive options, we will compete with top line agency, so opportunities like Olympic games are pretty much out of the picture. :/ I was one of those considering RIO images for SS.

Well I am not concerned about the $ as I dont sell them too often. What worries me is the communication corporate BS approach and not respecting the principles that SS had towards contributors. Which is kind of sad.

At the very least, you'd need model releases from each of the three clearly-featured athletes, and property releases from the companies whose logos are featured on their uniforms (or clone them out)

As an example, Getty has this as a service they offer for a fee:

Considering the event, all the logos and athletes, it seem like an impossible task for someone like me, who does not have the contacts etc. I like Sean note, but tht is maybe the same thing for the client :)

Hello,

a client contacted me and wants to use one of my sports editorial picture for online advertisement.
I am pretty familiar with editorial terms of use. But my question is, are you somehow able to sell such licence?
Honestly I dont think so, but as I am not experienced in this field, any advice is welcome.

How the big agencies run it? do you need to contact the athlete, association and agree terms or is it completely prohibited?
