We are planning to take only 0-5% commission for the sales (excluding service maintenance fee) for the first year, and slowly increase it up to 20% depending on the websites performance.

What is the service maintenance fee?  This does not look like a viable business plan.

Newbie Discussion / Re: boycott shutterstock

*waving*  another crotchety old bat here.
Shutterstock was my first stock site, way back when I was enthusiastic about the business.
Now, I want to spit on their CEO.

The only thing Cliffordthebigreddog has posted about is his new site.

Sadly, he'll probably get submissions, even without posting anything about pricing.

I regularly see posts in various forums from newbie photographers who didn't read the details before submitting their work somewhere.

You've seen them:  "I had a sale but I only got fifty cents!"

He'll get those people.

And why the boycott? I have about 100 photos there, I sometimes get royalties. There have never been any problems.

Have you done a google reverse image search for your photos?  You may be surprised to see them in use in more places than your royalties can account for.

Portfolio is all still there - Kermits & all -

It usually takes a few days for the report to get through the queue of other reports, but once it does, Disney is even more rigorous than Mattel.

131
oooo...lazaralinsilviu has some images with Kermit the Frog in them.

I've reported this to Disney.  BOOM!

132
Do you guys think that other stocks like iStock and Adobe check contributor portfolios more carefully?

Yes, I do.  I have occasionally found stolen images on other stock sites, but never whole portfolios like this.  You would think the heavy use of filters would be a clue to the reviewers.

Shutterstock used to reject images that relied on simple filter effects, since anyone can do them.

The site looks legit, so if they have something of yours up there, it's a mistake.  Contact them and let them know they need to take it down.

You get more discoverability by choosing categories, as well.

They are up and running, they are a good site always get a payout every month and the RPD is good.

May I ask what type of images you're selling?  I haven't had a sale there in 9 months.

The certificate expired today.

There's no way to know if the owner will bother to update that.  I'm guessing not.

Not that I still expected to get paid, anyway.

This is actually a way to keep you from DELETING your images.

While your portfolio is disabled, you can't access your own images to delete them.  They still show up in Shutterstock's database, so Google sees them, and directs searchers to Shutterstock, using your image.  They still count toward Shuttertock's count of images.

So, rather than disable, delete.

General Stock Discussion / Re: So where are we at now?
« on: July 01, 2020, 07:51 »
Simply de-activating your portfolio is not enough.  Your images will still be used as bait for links from Google, and will still be counted as "assets" of the company.

Closing your account will (eventually) get your images removed, as will deleting the images by hand.

Do the missing images have anything in common?  Are they all the same model?  Do they contain graffiti?

Looking at what you have on Alamy, there may be some property concerns.

There's no way for us to tell why Dreamstime isn't allowing downloads.  It may even be something with your account, rather than the images.

Adobe and Dreamstime will be happy to have content that Shutterstock doesn't.

142
I was thinking Adobe wanted to buy Shutterstock, but Facebook makes more sense.

An impending sale or merger makes sense, because the immediate effect of the change in payout would be Shutterstock suddenly looking a lot more profitable on paper.  Not for long, but, maybe for long enough.

« on: June 21, 2020, 07:38 »
It's possible they licensed your image, which would give them the right to use it, I guess, though why they'd want to use an image no longer on their site is beyond me.

All 2500 of my images?  No. What I think is going on is that, even though I asked for my account to be deleted, they just deactivated it.  So, technically, my images are still part of their total count of images, even though they can not be purchased.

I'll tell you what I want to sue Shutterstock for.  Using my images to promote their site more than a year after I closed my account.

Because pages like this still exist on their site, Google still links to them, and people searching for my work get directed to Shutterstock.

I have contacted them several times about this, and they always play dumb and blame Google.

No, they're not selling my images, but they are still USING them, and I believe that's actionable.

I bet they are still using everyone else's the same way, and I am willing to add my name to a large suit about that.

Adobe Stock / Re: AdobeStock blocked my account
« on: June 08, 2020, 07:45 »
Have you done something differently lately?

Maybe something has been mis-interpreted.  Tell us about your recent activities, maybe we can help you get this sorted out.

A link to one of your portfolios might help.

146
I still would not trust them, even if the paid more.  They have been too lax with copyright protection and image security for me to want to be associated with them.

Now, if another stock site buys them out, or there is some other large shift in ownership, I might consider it.

In a year or two.

Bigstock.com / Will SS muck up Bigstock next?
« on: May 30, 2020, 07:59 »
Shutterstock has finally made themselves into the Wal-Mart of stock photography.  They will probably still make a profit from selling tons of totally crappy images at "low everyday prices".   But, I don't think that will satisfy their corporate greed.

My concern it that they'll turn to Bigstock next.

My sales there are pathetic, and have been for some time.  I'm wondering if I should bail out before things get weird.

Although, Shutterstock's most likely move may be to simply close Bigstock.

What do you all think?

148
I am so glad I bailed out last year.

149
So, how much is 15% of  three cents?

You know that's where they're going.
