Adobe Stock / Missing sales notification emails from Fotolia?
« on: August 02, 2007, 09:22 »
I noticed that I haven't been getting any sales notifications from Fotolia for that last two days.  I assumed I just wasn't getting any sales.  When I logged in I found I have actually sold quite a few but just hadn't received the email notifications.  I checked my spam folder and there were no emails in there from them.  Is anyone else having any problems getting sales emails from Fotolia?  Just want to check before I report it to support.

I'm ready to request a payout but I think I remember reading in this thread that theirs got screwed up somehow after the so-called "upgrade."  I think it was sent to the wrong email address or something.  My Paypal address is different than my account email address so I fear they'll screw it up.  Has anyone successfully requested and received their payout lately?

s it me or nothing is returning in Fotolia search tool?  I tried something very simple - "sunset" - I'm sure there are tons of images, but nothing returned.  I also tried "stock market", which I tried the other day nad worked (except that it didn't return all my images), and another simple word "anglers", which I have in one old image.

Geez, can things get worse there?

Regards,
Adelaide

Yep, you're right.  Search is screwed up.  Some work, some don't.  I just performed a few with similar results as you.  For example, sunset, beach, money all produced nothing but business produced 66,000+.  They seriously need to get their poop in a group.  This is ridiculous.  I work in IT and something like this would never ever fly.  If we had a fiasco this big we would resort to our disaster recovery procedures and put things back to normal from backups until issues were corrected.  C'MON FOTOLIA!!  Get with it!!!!!!   >:(

Has anyone emailed support about the lack of SSN encryption?  If so, what is there response?  This is a pretty big security hole.

I have noticed an increase in sales as well.  Of course, those might be higher if my newer images still had their keywords intact.   ;)  I know, I'm trying to be patient.  It sounds like they're doing the best they can given all the issues they've had.  I certainly welcome the changes.   ;D

I submit full size images to all sites.  I don't have the time or patience to adjust sizing for sites like SS.  Plus, as others have noted, you never know when a site might change their policies and suddenly decide to charge more for larger sizes.

Yep, keywords are missing on my recent uploads as well.  Think we should contact support or wait a while to see if they'll fix it eventually?

Keywords are still missing on the most recent images, site a bit faster now, but not great. At least sales are starting to come through again...

I filled out the non-exclusive survey.  Can't wait to see the results.   :)

Never Mind. Figured it out. All you need to do is find http://www.fotolia.com/ranking/ (I won't tell you how to get there - it was too painful. Then go back to your home page, get your downloads and do the math. Simple. Not as simple as them just telling you, but it took less than an hour.

Holy cow, it took me 54 seconds to open that link!  >:( (I have a Firefox plugin with a page load timer)  If this is what customers have to go through to search for images no wonder my sales are poor there.

Hey Miz,

Of course I enjoy them since I emailed you directly for an invite to your site.  :D  Keep up the good work.  I've learned tons so far and look forward to more!!

Site Related / Re: How to "just show me the thread"?
« on: April 22, 2007, 21:08 »
Currently when you click on a thread it takes you to the bottom of the thread. Very annoying when you haven't read any of the thread but there have been lots of posts. Is there a setting I can change so the default behavior would be to just show me the thread?

I completely agree that this is very annoying... at least for me.  I was beginning to think it was just me.  Bummer that there's no setting to change it.  :(

I use Canon's Digital Photo Professional that came with my 5D.  I use it for my editing and viewing.  I also have Adobe Camera Raw but haven't really used it much.  I like Canon's DPP surprisingly well.  I also use ACDSeePro for viewing but it's not very fast.

I'm not sure if this will help but it helped me.  I noticed this happening to me some times but I never could figure out why.  Since I had never heard of a clipping path before reading the iStock article on it last year I figured I might be missing a step.  I went back to that article, found here - http://www.istockphoto.com/article_view.php?ID=89, and started following all the steps outlined there.  When I do that I get no jaggies.  I'm guessing I was just missing a step somewhere in my haste before.  Try it and let us know how it goes.  If I'm telling you something you already know, please accept my apologies.  It just helped me.

Hey there.  Quick question for you, what method are you using to isolate your images?

iStockPhoto.com / iStockVideo: Exclusives get FTP
« on: February 26, 2007, 19:30 »
Hey, did you guys see the latest at iStock?  Exclusive video contributers get FTP uploads... but as stated in their postscript - no plans for this same privilege for image contributors.   :-[  I just don't get it.

« on: February 06, 2007, 08:19 »
vicu,
I can understand your frustration level, however, like you, we all have our own opinions.  Believe me, I would love to go exclusive if for nothing else than to enjoy only having to upload to one site instead of 4.  Unfortunately, I have seen too many things go on at iStock over the past year that will prevent me from putting all of my eggs into one basket. There's no need in dredging up those demons here but I do feel they are valid for my decision.  Others feel differently and that is fine for them too.  To each his own.

Please keep something in mind though... the iStock forums are very restrictive and heavily censored, which is their right.  This forum here at microstockgroup is one of the few places where we are free to express our opinions about iStock, whether they are negative or otherwise, so I imagine you are going to see a lot more of the former here for that reason.  It's just the nature of the beast.

General Stock Discussion / Re: What's the best time?
« on: February 02, 2007, 22:56 »
I'm no expert but maybe a clock set to 5:00 PM would be a good time to display.  That's typically what time the workday ends (quittin' time!) for those of us pushing the 8-5 workday.   ;D

Yeah ... I got this e-mail too.

I'm a native English speaker with a university degree in the subject, and I found it difficult to understand exactly what they were offering.

It seems to be one of those messages that seem to be telling you a lot, but when you look at them closely, don't say much at all ... the sort of thing so beloved by politicians.

For example, they write about contributors receiving "...  big commissions." What is a 'big commission?' They do give a concrete example further on ... "Microsoft pays an extended license fee of $75 per photo, of which the contributor receives 35 50%"

Okay, lets be generous and take the upper limit. 50% of $75 is $37.50.

I don't call $37.50 a big commission for:

a) Allowing Microsoft to use your image in it's products however it wishes and ...

b)  All MS customers being able to use this image as they wish and ...

b) Allowing MS to sell it on as one of their 'products' (even if you do receive a cut) and ...

c)  You, as an independent photographer, not being allowed to sell any other RF image (even if it is not remotely related) anywhere else, through any other agency or means.

Bottom line ... ask yourself this question - "Who's going to get richer as a result of this?"

Very well put.  You hit the nail on the head.

I don't normally jump in on these types of arguments but I have to agree with Professorgb on this one.  I did not get a warm and fuzzy feeling while reading their description of this deal.

How odd.  Thursday was awful for me too, especially on iStock.  I was beginning to wonder if there was some holiday I didn't know about.  Odd for some many people to have a bad day like that.  Very odd indeed.

Off Topic / Re: Web Site or Blog???
« on: January 26, 2007, 11:28 »
You can always do both.  :D  That's what I do.  I do other things besides photography so my website gives me a place to post my non-stock and older photos as well as my artwork and online store information.  I use my blog to keep family and friends updated on what's going on in my life... although I don't update it very often here lately.  Both my blog and my website are about to get a major (and much needed) overhaul in the next week or two.  I agree that the website will take more work/knowledge to update so that might not be your best choice.  The blog, on the other hand, should be very user friendly, depending what type of blog you choose.  Good luck to you, we'd love to see it when it's done.

If you ask me, only the sensor movement is real image stabilization.

I completely agree!

I too owned the famous C-2100. (Uzi)  It wasn't my first digital camera but it was definitely the one that really fueled my passion for photography.  I agree, they need to lose the XD cards.  This new Olympus has definite potential.  I'll be eager to see the first reviews, although I don't think it will replace any of my current cameras.
