Just a friendly reminder after last month's problems. The 15th is coming around again, so please don't forget to send us that little green stuff. Thanks!

Hi Shiyali -

Just checked with accounting - and it looks like payments will be sent out later this week.

Thanks for checking up on us! ;)

Is anybody getting paid for their sales on Snapvillage, so far I've only had one payment and that was after chasing them up, now yet again I've had no payment this month.

By my reckoning I'm now two months behind in payments from them.

Hi RT -

I'm checking with accounting now - but it looks like the September payments will be going out later this week.
If you can email or PM me your details I'll check on your specifics.

Brian,

Can you please change the way you payout. There is a statement on your site that says you pay at the end of the month and then I read on other threads how its 45 days after the last blue moon or something like that. Corbis "regular" may do this but your direct competition does not. It would be greatly appreciated if this changed or least have someone in your IT to change the message on the site so it doesn't contradict you statements here. Nothing can make you look more like an amateur than not spelling out when contributors get paid.

Hi Zeus -

That's a serious discrepancy - clearly the cause for much confusion. I'll work on changing that copy.
The copy is incorrect - under our current system contributors are paid out 45 days following the close of the month in which they surpassed $10.

This fall we will be looking at the entire royalty payment system. The goal will be to streamline the process and hopefully, to shorten the payout cycle while still adhering to internal accounting policies. We've heard from several contributors who have requested a higher minimum threshold with a "pay now" button that can initiate a royalty payment at the contributors discretion.

What would you prefer? What would be the ideal royalty payment system in your book?

I wish I got delivery confirmation when I sent it. It seem I shoot my DVD into void. I will wait 1 more week and ask them if they received it :-)

Hi melastmohican -

You have received notification now, correct?

Hmm, somebody still working there. Today I got email from customer service that they got my DVD and will start reviewing my photos :-)

Hi melastmohican -

Yup, though the company is undergoing some consolidation and realignment - we're still here and will remain so.  ;)
While Adam is leaving, this announcement doesn't change SnapVillage, or our long-term goals and direction.

...plus we've got some releases that we hope you'll like lined up for this fall - stay tuned.

SnapVillage.com / Re: Strange Royalty Amount at SV
« on: September 05, 2008, 19:28 »
Compete.com estimates unique visitors grew at SV in August by over 50% to about 30,000.  By comparison, Bigstock is about 120,000, so there is a long way to go.  But that is a nice move in a "slow month" where many agencies saw a drop in visitors.

Hi Dan -

According to our in-house data, those numbers from Compete are pretty low by about 50,000 - but I'm no expert on how that stuff works and why traffic numbers seem to differ from one measurement tool to another. Working to convert many more of those visitors into sales is a big big challenge, but we're working on it... more to come.

well thats a good idea allright.

Is there a way to globally turn off subscription on all images?  I turned it off on the 'default pricing setting' but i am unsure if that will go for new images or will change all images?

Hi Leaf -

DanP68 is right. The pricing controls on your "My Account" dashboard change the settings for future uploads, not your current portfolio. Not an ideal design.

Email or PM me if you want to change your entire portfolio en masse and we can tackle if from the back end.

( definitely something we'll be fixing later this fall, soon after we finish the big release we're working on now )

I just burned two DVD for sending. I put text file with information they require on one of DVDs. No photos with model releases and all pictures got IPTC metadata. I guess it should be enough for them?

Hi melastmohican:

That should be fine.
The only other thing to consider (if you haven't done this already): If you want your images organized into sets (same shoot, same theme or model) then you should organize your images into folders for each set - and make the folder name the set name

How do contribute people outside US, UK, Canada, Germany or France????

Hi icefront:

Sorry, but we are bound by legal limitations that only allow us to open up this giveaway to residents of those countries.

We can however accept content submissions from many other countries - anywhere where PayPal is accepted (more on that soon!).

SnapVillage.com / Re: Brian..any news on the FTP?
« on: July 24, 2008, 00:54 »
I am still waiting for istock to have FTP :)

Could you imagine the chaos that would cause, I mean a few of the inspectors went on holiday last month and we still haven't got our upload limits back, implement FTP and I'd guess that non-exclusives would be limited to 1 upload every 6 months  :D

Hi All -

No significant updates, I don't have a firm ETA yet.  :(
Work continues. As I've mentioned in other posts, when starting this project we soon realized that in order to accept FTP we would need to completely rebuild our upload workflow. As sometimes happens - what started as a simple upload remodeling job has turned into a major-down-to-the-foundation overhaul.  ;)

While I've got your ear:  what are your opinions on upload limits or upload tiers, or other such systems designed to throttle uploading and prevent review delays.

Our current system is in most respects self-limiting. With the new upload system this will no longer be the case, and we've had some discussion about the need for upload limits. I'm curious - what do you think?  How would you tackle the need to balance allowing contributors to upload large batches, with the potential problems that could result for an unchecked system?

SnapVillage.com / Re: Has Snapvillage paid you?
« on: July 22, 2008, 18:26 »
I contacted Brian about this because I had been reading the part on the royalty page saying you're paid at the end of the month as long as your balance is over $10.

He looked into it and said I would be paid on July 15th.

And nope I didn't get my payment paid either.

Update on this situation:  I've found that there has been a delay in making payment from our side. This is NOT a PayPal problem, but instead an internal accounting issue that we are in the process of resolving.  It looks like payments should be going out by the end of this week.

Our apologies for the add'l delay.

I'll keep you posted.  Thanks for your patience.

I just wish they had a regular "request payment" button or that you could set the payment treshold yourself. A tiny payment like $12 would be very annoying and costly in accounting, it would cause more work than benefit for me.

Hi Perry -

Good idea. We're looking a way to handle a "request payment" button now.
Clearly the current system is flawed so we are keen on finding a better way.

Definitely!  The scenery up there is amazing. I took quite a few. They are still sitting on memory cards... I'll try and get them processed in the next few days and upload some.

took me one week

to opt out from subs

900 images one by one...  :-(

if the sites want to have sub sales at 30 cents they should have and a lot of downloads first...

don't you think?

This is from the FQ
When will I be paid?
Once you make $10 in royalties, you will be paid forty five days following the calendar month in which the amount licensed exceeds $10. For example, if your royalty balance is $250 at 06/30/2007, you will receive the full $250 on  08/15/07. If you make royalties in July this will accumulate and go towards your next payment.  If your balance never exceeds $10, you will receive your royalties forty five (45) days following the end of the calendar year

This is what is written above your monthly statements
SnapVillage makes royalty payments on the last day of every month, so long as you have a minimum balance of $10.00. Balances of less than $10.00 roll over into the next month. Click on a year and then a month to view details or print a statement.

The Math is not adding up for me on this. Either they make the payment at the end of the month or forty five days after you sell more than 10.00 ???
I'm also waiting for my May payment, maybe it will come at the end of July making it 60 days instead of 45 ???  Where is Brian from SV when you need him?

Hi All -

In the current system - payments are made 45 days after the close of the month in which you reach $10 or greater. So if you hit the payment threshold in May, you should have received payment on July 15th.

We understand this isn't ideal, and we are looking at revising this system.

The copy above the monthly payments is not correct. I'll see if we can fix that shortly to avoid further confusion here.

For those of you who have not yet received payment --- I'm going to follow up with each of you individually.

I've been out of the office the past 5 days on a camping trip in North Cascades National Park. Back now. Mostly.  ;)

General Stock Discussion / Re: "Copy Space" in Keywords?
« on: July 09, 2008, 20:23 »
sometimes I use that keyword.  When i purposely make copy space in an image or can't think of other keywords i put it in.

hi all -

"copy space" is a great term. It shows up on search logs pretty regularly. Definitely helpful for buyers who are looking for sparse images with clean backgrounds or for quickly scoping out those images with intentionally extreme off-center/off-axis compositions.

To say Snapvillage is a sleeping giant would be an understatement.  I hope Brian's participation, combined with SV getting out of beta, is a sign that things will start moving soon.

I check the Alexa and Compete numbers for SV and other sites every few weeks.  The numbers are still very low relative to BigStock, which represents the bottom of the Big 7.  But that's nothing a well targeted advertising campaign couldn't turn around in a hurry.   8)

agree Dan, i like to see SV succeeding with some sales for my images too. needless to say, Brian's active participation in this forum is just exemplary.  cheering for SV for sure!

Thanks tan510jomast!  Glad my presence here is helping a bit.
We've got quite the challenge ahead (getting trickier by the day - ahem * flickr+getty * cough cough *. Thanks for your support!   :D

I received your email today. Thanks for your help, Brian. If you continue the good work you do here in the forum, SV might eventually become a good agency. ;)

Thanks!  We're working hard to keep getting better every day!
(just getting impatient myself - wish I could share all the new stuff we're working on right now... have to be patient and let things flow through the development process...)

Hi DanP68 -

We look at those traffice numbers too and would like them to be higher. We're still a bit off the radar.
We've got some plans in the works to tick those graphs upwards. Also keep in mind that we are seeing strong positive growth in many areas: unique visitors, time spent on site per visitor, number of registrations, uploads, sales et al.

We'll get there...   ;)

SnapVillage.com / Re: only sub sales
« on: July 09, 2008, 20:01 »
I had sales ticking along, nothing huge but I was happy as it is a new site. I enabled subs 2-3 weeks ago but am now only getting sub sales (18 so far this month) with no normal sales. Hopefully this is just an anomaly as they have been advertising subs heavily and hopefully I see some normal sales again soon.

Hi Clearview -

We've noticed this shift too, and we have definitely focused our advertising heavily on our new subscription packages to kick start those.
I think we'll see a more balanced mix between subscription/standard/product start to develop going forward.

« on: July 09, 2008, 19:57 »
Hi all -

Sorry for the lack of explanation on this blog post.  Ivan is Senior Vice President for Corbis - Sales.  He is not in charge of SnapVillage. He was asked to speak about SnapVillage to PhotoInduced while at the Cannes Lions advertising festival a few weeks ago.

You're quite correct - this interview doesn't mention the contributor side much. This was meant to be a quick high level summary of SnapVillage - mainly targeting buyers.

We just thought it was kind of interesting and wanted to share.  ;)

If the video format is helpful - perhaps I can start putting some together on the contributor side going forward.

Hope you are all having a good July so far...

I found the same on my account page and emailed support about it, but never received an answer. I found this thread here just by accident. Maybe you could work on the quality of support a bit as well... >:(

Hi Maui -

Point taken. My apologies that you didn't get a response to your emails.
That's unacceptable.

I understand the frustration an unanswered inquiry can cause - when I have an issue with a site/retailer/service and I don't hear back, I think twice about returning.  We want SnapVillage to have great  customer service, and realize we have a long ways to go before we get there.

We're still a small team, and I'll admit that this has affected our level of support in the past.  Very recently we've taken a hard look at our customer support system and are adding resources and tools to better ensure we get back to you quickly and accurately. I'm confident that going forward you'll see significant improvements here.

I just put this in another thread: but I'll repeat it here:

my direct phone:  1-206-373-6040
