in addiction think of this...they are not growing..every quarter the growth is becoming a negative loss compared the past quarter...how can they achieve better financial results with a falling market? one key is sells images of low end contributor paying 25 cent compared to 38 cent...it's near 50 & less royalty and if we consider million of download we begin understand that we are talking off a giant sum of money, not  thousand buck...that's why they have lost any interest in quality control and accept everyday thousand of contributor who don't have a clue of what they are selling

253
it's clear that ss control in a way the engine and the position of each contributor...the pattern of sales are always the same despite the growing content library. and in my case is not 5 months its'3 years...the line is practically the same every year, in the first 6 month thee difference compared to last year is something like 20 dollar and i'm talking of 4 digit sum, more than 5000 to understand....in addiction seems like every month the path is to reach a sum, often with some sod at the end of month.
now in the last 5 days i'm down 80% daly, after midweek zero sales. only best seller sells , everything else is non existent. personally i0ve stopped any download to ss. i prefer risk to sell nothing in stocksy, through addictive stock, and cavan images, than upload content of good to very quality to an agency with zero quality control and a search engine that simply can bury your folio in a bit, like happened since 4 june.
clearly we don't have the proof, and i think is very hard to find, because i think if therewereofficial sign that they control sales this could be a complete break of contract and potentially any contributor could sue the for damages and lost earning.

254
Since wendsday the sales at ss have tanked near 80%.seems like they have completely switches off my folio. Unbielevable. Only some all time best seller still sales but nothing more

255
My outsider's perspective: if I follow a link from Google, from the UK, I always get the Russian language site.

shutterstock is getting a russian contributed website mostly. most of photographer featured are from russia....mosto of content come from russia...simply because is so chap to produce content in russia.

256
Photo are falli g down too. Im experiencing a strong grow of istock and as i said connect is killing ss. Last four days are appalling.

the content are good but really in 2019 with all the template and word press the graphic is very basic. don't know if it's just an hobby or you wanna make some money with blog, but really will be so easier to make it more interesting and easier to navigate with a smile wordpress template.

This thread seems to be going in an awful lot of side directions, but this story of evolution of how I got into stock might somehow (in some tiny way...) relate, so here goes:

In 2010, I was traveling in Cambodia, and writing an email to friends about what we were seeing and doing. Every day, I would get emails from others saying that my prior email had been forwarded to them, and asking to be added to future travel emails, and oh-by-the-way, would I send the prior ones so they could catch up?

After a month of this, I decided it was too much, so I slapped up a quick blog page, and dumped my earlier emails into it (we were in Vietnam at the time, so it was a pretty slap-dash job). That allowed me to just point people to the url each time.  Solved the problem for that trip.  When I got home, I spent a bit more effort and cleaned up the web site a bit.  I have since updated the site twice more, the most recent being last year.

However, it has zero monetary element to it.  I write it for two reasons:

1) My wife and I are both 69.  We have visited 82 countries so far, including 20 in the last 6 years, since retiring.  It starts to blur together.  With the blog, I can go back (and do every year or less) to reread what we did where, and remind myself what the heck we have seen and done.  Believe me, it gets harder to remember as you get older, and as the volume increases.

2) For friends and family. Initially just our immediate family.  As word has spread, we now have a mailing list of just under 500 people who have asked to get a monthly email summarizing the prior month's posts.  Google Analytics tells me there are about 2000 people (plus spiders? not sure if they are counted in GA or not...) following our posts.

Frankly, it is a kick when people see the photos and read our commentary, and say they like them.  But that is just a bit of an ego boost. No money involved, and none wanted. We are retired and just don't need any more money, so I don't want to do anything that requires chasing dollars.

This thread is presumably about selling stock videos vs photos.  Yes, I do submit to both.  Yes, I do make a small amount of money from both (a couple thousand $ per year from each). Basically a small enough amount of money that it is just a nuisance to gather the docs each year to give to my accountant (which I had to do yet again just last week, since we file in October).

thanks for the insight.
anywyay i suggesst you use a more modern and fascinating template., it will help organize and show your memory better.

Wow, you have a very interesting story. So is your mirror on the moon something that disproves people claiming the moon landing was a hoax?

I don't want this thread to get too sidetracked, but... that is a question that comes up surprisingly often.

1) Do you really believe that a project with thousands of people over a decade of time could be faked?

2) Did you watch MythBusters "back when it was still good"? (jab at current wanna-be crew...).  In 2008, they did an episode specifically debunking such nonsense.  One of the ways they did that was to go to a telescope and actually saw the mirror I designed that was put on the moon in 1969.  They then bounced a laser off that mirror (which is what it was designed for), and saw (on an oscilloscope) the returning photons.

That entire episode can be seen here -- https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2m7k1z

Beat month thanks to a super big sale for 300 dollar.

But still this connect stuff. Connect is as mushy as crocodule pond, i read many article and you know what i still cannot understamd what is and probably not even getty knows. People think is a special deal for china, no is not, all those one cent sale from
China probably are due to other idiot move from getty.

Connect is the most festructing stuff we have ever seen. In practice is a giant unspalsh  free site for milliona of cuatomer who before bought images fron istock Ss fotolia and now they stop using those sites and simply get free images grom getty. Think blog, small company individual website... in practice if its not printed
Or used commercially is given for free.

Why you ask? Simply getty is trying to dumpen the competitipn. They were losing badly and fight back giving our stuff for free earning minimal
Subscription price just to kill ss and adobe. That s it.

https://www.fastcompany.com/1817835/connect-getty-images-leaps-21st-century

This article is well written and explain all. They kill
Already canva... they are using the money they amassed wirh editorial big sale to kill
The market , the last thing they can do tonprrvent microstock eat them all.
And clearly ss and adobe soon will cut prices and royalty. I expect it in less than a year. Thats why microatock in tge bect year wont be a job for many probably some
Hundred big company producer.

262
i have to say that this month my red rain to 1,09 dollar...despite 15% and despite some file sold with connect at 1 cent.....i had two 300 dollar sale for example something i don't see in adobe that despite the higher royalty is at 0,75 and ss despite the good month still behind at 0,85.

it's math...evry agency is doubling collection in less than a year...at this pace in 5 years will have  a billion file included hundred millions of video but as shown by financial data of ss in the last year the revenue is growing  practically zero...and royalty paid to contributor are practically any growth at all. in the long run this business is ended...any chance to earn enough to sustain work and family. unfortunately they destroyed everything  accepting everything together with instagram file free website and all and the future is completely black. i'm still going but not enough to justify the work done and resource invested. personally i'm moving all my quality production high end rf and rm agency. better sell few files at good price than hope to earn enough selling thousand of files every  month.

Yes, I have been reporting https://www.etsy.com/shop/BigSvgBundle because he steals a lot of my stuffs. I hope more people will join the cause because Etsy will close his/her shop if more report is gathered. Please support.

Hope so, but I've also caught and reported multiple times and yet there he still is...

He have counter notice my claim and I believe he had did the same tricks to others too. Do we have a lawyer here? How can we proceed from here?

proceed where what against who? the moment you proceed you will have already spend money to lawyer who could do anything ...or do you think those people live in usa? most live in ukraine russia thailand india...place were nothing work...nobody respect digital law.

You could get a court order, but of course you actually can't because it they are probably in another country and you have no valid contact details, and it would be too expensive to be practical anyway.

Have you tried googling the contact details? If they have used the details of another individual or business you could try letting the business know, they may want to take action as the person is defaming them and potentially dragging them into legal battles that have nothing to do with them.

you look like don chisciotte and the spinning wheel...is totally a waste of time and resources....nobody will care...photography vector video are zero dollar commodity...they stop stealing on yu they begin stealing somewhere else...and probably they are those are making much more money than 90 % of microstoccker...i repeat the moment we accepted one dollar for photo , because it looks so good living that life, we killed photography business...now is totally useless complaining...especcially since nobody cares at ss where files are stolen. we live in a n era where there tons of sites who give away images who are much better than images you can find in micro stock, and   we think we could live forever selling images in ss.
the only way to change thing is a massive bankutpt of all micro stock agency, and a comeback to the past where only good images are accepted, price are competitive.

Adobe Stock / Re: No sell this morning

It must be a big holiday everywhere... Adobe and Shutterstock have been very poor of late (just before easter). Mainly small value licences. AS was $300 down on previous month. Hopefully we'll see an upturn soon!

Edit

Actually, just looking at the stats, volume is there it just seems that they've stopped selling anything with a value of more than $.038

i had one sale for 123 dollar the day before easter a saturday and i thought it was a miracle...but then it pays it back with 12 days appalling in ss and a bit better in stock and as...but today i thought things will get to normality afgaina instead just a bunch of 0.28 nothing more...seems tomorrow will be even worst...it seems to me everybody especially where i live ahas liked holiday and work day just to have 2 full weeks of holiday, then everybody complaining there is crisis, no money and then they are alway on holiday...

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock Q1 2019 earnings report
« on: April 26, 2019, 08:38 »
practically same royalty or les ad 40& of content...sometimes i even cannot realize how can i still sell something in this mess.........

271
I've been exclusive for the last decade but now I'm going non-exclusive. I've got about 25,000 images in my portfolio to upload so I need to choose my agencies wisely. I'll hit all the biggies .. SS, AS, IS, P5, AL, 123 & DT .... but what would be say the next top 3 to 5 sites after that?

and I'm not interested in any stock submitter services. thanks

what i thought was the most scaring thing in the near future is begin to happening...thousand of exclusive contributor from getty who will soon dump their status and splash another 30 40 million images around ss and adobe...i tell yu ...if you think to sell more than getty think twice....most of agency like fotolia or ss practically sell mostly established files...most of new stuff don't sell, or will sell in long time, because nobody is looking for new file especially for generic theme. so if you have a niche good if not think twice, you will be extremely disappointed...in 2017  sold practically 2 times download for each new file uploaded that year, in 2018 the % has fallen down to 1 download eery 4 files, 2019 is appalling in terms of files uploaded in 2019 like 1 download every 20 new file, ok we are only in april but tendency is not good at all for new files...old files with good searching position sells eery day.
so maybe in stock you all less than the past, but thin also about the fact that new files don't have that selling window like in the past, so being new your file if not uploaded soon after uploader  risk to be buried by thousand of files. anyway another reactor to kill revenue.

General Stock Discussion / Re: pond5 sales plummet to $0?
« on: April 22, 2019, 10:57 »
Everything is bad.  AS is half what it was last month, Canva, 10% of highs, Pond, one sale so far.

canta is finished. worst than can stock. what getty touch become crap i already wrote and is so true. since mid december i have only 0,35 cent sale. unbelievable.

thats why i don't sell nothing in stock...my sales are given free :)...i checked last march and i had practically 400 fixed image line in connect...now more than 5000....what a mess of company of statement...

« on: April 20, 2019, 13:34 »
i don't sell video at stock but i never check actually the statement...today i try to understand in detail...wwhile my earning in stock are 1&10 of ss...i don't understand why this difference considering the same images practically, but it's ok...my question is...i look at connect and had more than 5000 fixed usage fee for near 0,0038 cent...that make a whopping 20 dollar!!..i mean my images ar used for what how ..what means they are viewed...i mean at this point better give them free in unsplash at least those who buy know your work you and maybe you earn some customer...a

275
This is a fast cash grab. I have no doubt he will make a bunch of money in the short term but he's sinking his (and our) long term prospects in this industry.

the fact that is last production and files are aerial or cheaper production tells me they made a lot of money but also spend lot of money also in production and taxes, because they are  western company...probably they want right now recover and capitalize this till they can and till pond5 will go subscription plan also. as i said multiple time you can produce big files and work hard mostly in eastern country or poor country...ding this in western world is so * hard due to cost.
