Microstock News / Re: Getty buys Scoopt
« on: March 24, 2007, 18:26 »
There is a 12 month exclusivity on the image and the photographer gets the standard Getty 40% return AFTER they have been paid for the image.
I just read an article on it too.  Apparently with the Getty purchase, commission went down from 50% to 40% and exclusive period went from 3m to 12m.

The advantage though is that if the photo is good, they will put it on the Getty editorial site.  You can expect a few DL if that was to happen!

Worth joining up just in case I happen to be somewhere when something happens and I have my camera and I take a good shot and there are no other photags there.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Blank e-mail
« on: March 23, 2007, 11:37 »
I cannot stress this enough--NEVER, EVER REPLY TO AN EMAIL WITH AN UNKNOWN SENDER.  Don't think about it.  Don't read it.  Delete it immediately.

Even if an email looks blank, it could contain a 1-pixel image that links to a virus or bot script.  Sometimes, just passing your mouse over these micro-images can launch a script, such as a tracking script that tracks your web surfing.

it wasn't exactly an unknown sender.  it was the fact that it was blank that it was suspicious.  YOu can only tell this by openning it I assume?

Cool, I was waiting to hit $100 this month, looks like I'll get a payout earlier.
Dont forget to go in and set the lower limit.

One point I think would need discussion: what kind of business model are you thinking of?  Macro, micro, both?  Each member setting his own prices?

One important thing mentioned by Bateleur: image quality inspection.  This is very important but might be a source of conflicts...
Other questions that will have to be considered are:

-who keeps the books (ie, looks after and tracks the money)
-who looks after the IT (who pays for this and the start up costs, running costs until profitable)
-how will you correspond (assuming you aren't all in the same location, timezone, meetings could be difficult - Coops are enormally localised)

The other thing that would be considered is how is this going to differ from featurepics which already offers 70%.  Are all costs etc going to be less than 30% or revenue?

Same issue with me.  For one, the image picked up by Google wasn't even a similar image anymore.

I changed about a year ago by emailing them.  Dont know how long it took as it was a couple of months before my first payout.

They have decided to make a change where keywords must be entered by whacking you head against the keyboard.  If you do spellling mistakes, they will be reject and can not be resubmitted.

leafs thing to the right says they are now back up (were down a few minutes ago)

i was going to say the same thing.  Dont put your idea on the internet.

Myabe pm/email/talk to a few people from here to see if they think it would fly (just look at the responces whenever a new microsite advertises here).

Leaf might be a good one to talk to as he must know something about this internet thingamajig - that is if you can trust him not to steal if from you  ;D ;D

1 credit is 1USD.

Depending on what site you are registered on depends on your payout.

I was registed in the UK but changed to US as I wanted it to go to paypal in US$.  I think you can also select if you want.

They have a fixed exchange rate which I assume can go for or agaist you depending on the actual forex.

4. Select "color range"-"highlights", check "invert" box, click "ok"

5. Add layer mask

I dont think I can do this in elements.  Is there an option for us poor elements users?

Note to self - buy CS3.

« on: March 19, 2007, 06:24 »
i would do batchs of say 10 and submit once on lot gets reviewed.

Reasons:

If you do a large batch, and the find something the dont like, there is a risk they will look for that in the rest of the photos (eg. once they find noise, they will be really pick on the rest).

If you submit another batch before the last batch is review, it gets added to the previous batch.  this is hand when review times are long as you can submit one photo (as a place holder) and submit the rest when you have time.  Not an issue at the moment as they are turning them around i less than a couple of days.

Doing it over a period of time will also spread out the new photo effect.  So if you have groups of photos (say 10 flowers from different angles - bad example i know), if you submit them all at once, high risk of getting them regected for "too many" but also designers will see them all at once and not download them all.  If they see them over a say 2 month period (I dont know how many photos you have), then they might buy a few.

Note: the first is the main one, plus the chance to avoid the "too many"/"similar photo" rejection.

Photoshop Discussion / Re: Correcting for under exposure
« on: March 19, 2007, 06:18 »
Now, I realize that I have just about added an entirely new sky, however I also have a third version with the original sky that is not blown out because I exposed for the sky, rather than the building.
that third version would be a better one to show.  If you are going to replace the sky, their is no point exposing for the sky(sun). Of course you dont always know this at the time (therefore good recover of the building).

I everyone this bad or are you all emphasising for dramatic effect?.  I average over $15 per month.  Not much but my portfolio is small so it borders on top 6 for me (about equal with BigStock and StockXpert).

I will be hopeing for payouts every 3 to 4 months now (as opposed to about annually before).

Shutterstock.com / Re: Question re SS referral program
« on: March 19, 2007, 02:41 »
It should work but the risk would be if they never make it.  Then they would just be relying on you and any other referals to get a payout.

Probably 75% of my referals have no photos (and they are not buyers) so a lot give up before they get on.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: 500!
« on: March 17, 2007, 17:30 »
I hadn't tried the estimator, but I have just been there to see.  It says I might expect for the next 12 months to earn US$910 (I'm looking forward to that!) or US$1138 if I become exclusive.  Hmm.  I suppose I can get the extra US$218 elsewhere.  Both numbers were estimated using an estimate sales growth of 5% per month (in fact lately it's been more than that to me).  If I use 15% sales growth, numbers change from US$1800 non-exclusive to US$2400 exclusive, again for the next 12 months.
INteresting.  I was wondering if they factored in extra exclusive sales.  Doesn't really make exclusivity look that appealing.

Just out of interest, what does the exclusive calculator say?  Do they make it optomistic or just what you would expect?

LuckyOliver.com / Re: LO Review time
« on: March 16, 2007, 09:57 »
It may be that LO has focused its efforts on stock shows and whatnot, but their reviews seem to have slowed to a crawl.
They have had a few sickness in their reviewing team and are about a week behind (read on another forum yesterday).  Bryan has been swanning off doing trade shows as well (I would prefer they focus on this side of things rather than the approvals).

123RF / I will get my second payout from 123rf ...
« on: March 16, 2007, 09:54 »
as they have just lowered the payout limit to $50 for paypal users.  And it will come 2 weeks earlier (or some might say "still 6 weeks too late").

That is about the only interesting news from their latest email.  Normal stuff like better, faster, strong search and servers.  A bit about the new brighter site.  Interviews, free photo of the day and other stuff (my mine is a bit of a seive at the moment but I think that was it).

Lower payouts is good - they have finally listened to the submitters.

I was just looking at my portfolio in best match again, it seems that IStock very recently changed it so that ratings now mean little to nothing.
I think they have stuffed something up.  Ratings dont mean anything even when sorted by "rating".  Arguable they shouldn't affact "best match" but should definately affact the rating search.

Image vortex - I think you choose from$20 - $200 though I haven't looked there in over 1 year.
