StockXpert.com / Re: Reminder to monitor your JIU sub sales!
« on: January 06, 2009, 04:44 »
Ok. We identified a problem with how sales data is being reported from Photos.com and JIU to StockXpert. The data is being recorded and logged; it's just not flowing to StockXpert. Our dev and tech teams are working quickly to fix the problem and restore the data to your balance sheets.

Once again? Moan... ::) I had almost considered opting in again. Guess I wait a bit longer....

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS rejections explosion!!!

"Thumbnail jpg has rough edges"
how can avoid this rejection message? my thumbnail follow the guidelines, 500 x 400 px, quality 12

...what can i do?

Make the thumbnail larger. I routinely send 'thumbnails' with 2500 px width and high quality. SS does the resizing.

What about showing the 'buyer of the week' - if there was one?  ::)

I'm going to be selling blender models, so I expect it will not do as well as those max users. :D

Make sure you don't upload them only as blender files, but at least also as Wavefront .obj. This allows to use them in other software, as pretty much every 3d software supports .obj.

But I think you would have more success selling .max objects, especially fully animated ones. They are more useful to professional users. Just IMHO.

There are also:

Pond5 http://www.pond5.com/
Interclips http://www.interclips.net/
Motionsdrops http://www.motiondrops.com/

I don't have videos on Interclips and Motionsdrops, but Pond5 is not bad. I have actually sold more videos there than at Shutterstock.

Glad it worked for you - I was running out of ideas myself. I wish they could make their error messages a bit more meaningful.

How did you create the files? Could it be a problem with line endings (DOS/UNIX convention)?

Yes, they are not very communicative with their error messages, aren't they?

I had this problem for 2 reasons:
- filename too long or with unwanted characters, I don't knoww hich one it was, but after I shortened my filename it worked,

- file contained text elements which were not expanded. After I expanded them to paths, it worked.

In both cases the error message was the same as you got.

I sent an email to Pixmac and asked for an explanation for the "free" pictures. Let's see if I get a reply.

I did not get a reply, but they removed my images that were marked as "free". So for the time being I am satisfied.

This site seems to have more than just a few hiccups. I found some of my own images there. If I click on "All pictures of this author" I get a larger list of my pictures, but most of them without thumbnails. What gave me a good scare is that these pictures are listed as "free", what is definitely wrong. Fortunately it doesn't seem possible to download them. (It escapes me why there are listed at all, then.)
Perhaps the site was programmed by the same people who made the FT website  ::)

I think I have to keep a close eye on this site.

I never use the website in german and I never use german keywords either. As the others said, they will most likely only get scrambled in some bizarre way by the automated translation.

Both users are from Japan so I wonder if something in the translation is getting lost? Still it's pretty funny. I wonder what the word buffalo is coming from?

It's very likely their silly translation system getting haywire. Even the translation from german to english is often completely crazy; I can't imagine what it might do for languages so extremely different as japanese and english.

StockXpert.com / Re: Inflated account as of this morning anyone?
« on: October 18, 2008, 10:32 »
they fixed it today

But all of my footage is still gone...

Your footage should still be there.  It seems that if you try to get to your footage via the My Account -> My Footage link (on the left side of the My Account page), then nothing will appear.  But if you choose the My Footage link (on the right side of the My Account page), then your footage should appear.  So it appears that one of the links is broken.

But one thing that doesn't seem to working is the search for footage.  When you search for something, only a very small number of videos are returned.

Yes, you are right. So I guess they will fix it eventually.

You don't have to check that checkbox at all, you know...

292
Let the dross settle to the bottom, and then sift it out. Get rid of it. More high quality imaging, less to crowd out searches. Or at least let it go to a sister company of some sort that sells them at lower prices with higher limit of uses. I say this because even if they don't sell, they are still taking up space that new and higher quality images might occupy.

That would eliminate many 'niche'-images, which by definition are only important to a small number of people. Just because an image doesn't sell within a year or two doesn't mean it is bad. It may simply be waiting for someone who needs it. Throwing them out reduces variety.

dnavarrojr, do you have a premium account at Interclips? Do you think it is worth having one?

Zymmetrical.com / Re: Any videos?
« on: August 14, 2008, 14:21 »
I don't have much to say about formats, but I would like to suggest that contributors can upload their own thumbnails if they wish. (I am asking that because e.g. StockXpert currently assigns thumbnails from some random frames out of the clip, which is completely silly.)

Zymmetrical.com / Any videos?
« on: August 14, 2008, 11:27 »
I tried some searches for videos, like 'people', 'background', 'abstract', 'globe', but never found more than 1 video, if at all. How many videos are there actually on Zymmtrival? Is it even worth uploading?

General - Stock Video / Re: What means 'VJ loop'?
« on: August 08, 2008, 14:13 »
And why are those clips named like that? They look just like a simple seamless loop. Is there anything special about a 'VJ loop' compared to a 'loop'?

Hi list,

on Pond5 I see videos with the description 'VJ loop'. What is 'VJ' standing for?

So if I have a question regarding my contribution *before* I am accepted, I cannot ask... duh.

Well, thanks to all who replied!
