General Stock Discussion / Re: What are your goals for 2013?
« on: December 02, 2012, 18:24 »
Increase portfolio by 365 photos. (1 per day realistic goal ?) Microstock is only very part time.
Have more than 52 surfs
Ride 2500km
26 bake dinners
World domination is already taken so can't choose that.

Why are they called dimes anyway ?

According to Merriam-Webster:
"disme   noun \ˈdīm\
Definition of DISME  : a United States 10-cent coin struck in 1792
Origin of DISME:  obsolete English, tenth, from obsolete French, from Old French disme, dime
First Known Use: 1792"

Thanks, I'm surprised it is such a logical answer.

Most people here are non-exclusive so no E+.

There are a couple so you might get an answer.

General Stock Discussion / Re: November Stats
« on: December 01, 2012, 18:40 »
Depending on PP from Istock its looking like BME for me.

SS was 50% higher than average and a good months on DT.

If I have a good december I might beat last years earnings. I had a terrible September for what ever reason.

Fotolia has fallen off the end of the earth. Only 2% of my monthly earnings,

I doubt the keyword spamming on SS couldn't get any worse,
though I will probably be proved wrong.

Canstock has a feature like this but I rarely use it because it is one of the last agencies I upload to.

Imagine all the extra good programing guys they've got with the extra %, if they didn't have them the IS sight would surely be broken.

I wonder how many sales never go to my balance ?

Haven't people worked this out yet. Microstockers are tight arses.
Your not going to get many involved charging $480/year.

With my portfolio I'd rather put $480 on black at the casino.

This may prove to be useful for some high earners but the risk reward ratio isn't looking too good at the moment for alot of contributors.

Say you earn $10,000 per year at microstock this would be not a small expense.

What percentage of microstockers earn >10,000 ?

Not a really big market in my opion.

The free offer does go along way to try and win over some contributors. But I don't earn enough to be worth my involvement.

I am the only one who thinks this is weird

Microstock Analytics / Re: Lookstat Gone?

Probably goes to show that because the margins are so low doing microstock that secondary service companies aren't going to be profitable.

I think the bar has been raised especially for applications. You need to shoot something more saleable than a flower.

You need to show that you can operate a camera and know to shoot something that will sell. Not just snaps. You need to create a photo, not just take one in the backyard or roaming the street.

« on: November 14, 2012, 01:41 »
hey, I really don't believe it!

let's be serious! 8000 per month and working full-time in the same time! and you probably shoot only in week-ends, right? :)

you're lying!

p.s.: who does agree with me? Hands up! :)

because he doesn't shoot :)

he probably creates his illustrations in the evenings..
"and a new van for my photo business in cash"
He is a photographer. I have no problem believing him, if you approach this as a business there's you get completely different results. Even if it is a part time business.

then I was mislead by luissantos' message..

its not the Julien you are thinking

Julien Assange ?

It would depend on how easy it would be to get a new normal job if things went upsidedown.

If there 20% unemployment where you live I'd be less likely to trade in the insurance backup security of a paid job. If I knew I could get a job in a week if I had to then it would be a different decision.

My decision to be a mediocre unknown microstock photographer is paying off.

It would be interesting to get 100 people and see if any of them can pick the brand. Do they have any special features ?

Iphones, ferrais etc from the western world I'd expect >50% of people would pick them from a photo.

Image Sleuth / Re: Image being used as fake testimonial
« on: November 10, 2012, 04:50 »
Some sites have clauses in the license that prohibit the "I'm Jane and I lost 80kg" type of claims. You can put them on the site showing what people look like at healthy weights but the testimonial type thing is prohibited.

General Stock Discussion / Re: October 2012 Earning Thread
« on: November 01, 2012, 01:46 »
Up on last month which was horrible. Down on last years october.
I'd say earnings for October were okay

First time ever it is looking like I will earn less than the previous calender year.
This is my 6th year in microstock

Appears to be due to lower earnings at both shutterstock and istock.

My portfolio is 10% bigger than this time last year.
Looks like my files are starting to fall down the best match faster than I am submitting them.

Does uploading work ? I've had numerous issues "unknown error" when trying to upload over the last month.
