I seem to use Ctrl_H  (PC) a lot to hide or show selections or guides while I work on an image.

The talking heads here in Germany explain their team's success so far to better technical abilities both from the individual players and as a team . . . .  ie, they have been better playing as a team.  I know there has been a long standing debate as to whether  superstars can contribute as much as they should in tournments like this . . .but  Germany has no real superstars,  . .  no Rooneys, Messis, Torres, or Robinhos and has found success so far, and the big named players have been disappointing.

Sweet!

My son just bought a Tonic Frame for his Dirt Bike so I do enjoy your obsession.  Are you going to have it built?

I thought these things happend every day.  Apparently not:)

It seems I will get $2000 for a customized wood sign similar to the Istock photo. They will get full right to it, exept to resell it as a photo.
I hope Cclapper got a word doc that I can make some changes to and Im ready to proceed.  I feel no need to make it any harder.

They can use the photo for all eternity and Im happy with it. What could happen?  I mean we sell photos for .25 that all ends up on heroturk. Can it be worse?

Thanks for all help :)

Make sure you get your money before sending them the full res version. Sometimes it's hard to get them to pay up after the fact. Keep that in mind.

This relates to what is call the call girl principle which states that the value of a service declines after that service has been performed.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Reviewers allergy or global trend?
« on: June 25, 2010, 04:11 »
Nah,  its just crappy editing, summer-reviewers without the slightest know-how. I submitted an industrial shot with fog, smog, pollution, etc, etc, also blue toning for impact.
Reviewers comments:  poor lighting ( supposed to be since pollution) and this moron also tells me to WB a blue toning shot.
how about that?????????????????

General Stock Discussion / Re: Start selling on Zoonar
« on: June 20, 2010, 05:48 »
Sure, if they are RF images.  Zoonar also sells RM images so don't get them mixed up . . .  know the difference, Zoonar does both.

I didn't get that form.  Is this only for non-US contributors?

They have had my social security # for years.

No idea Ms Lisafx, I am located in Munich, Germany. Since I am an American it isn't a big deal for me at least.

"Please note: this email is intended for you, we urge you not to encourage other photographers to join during our special invite program, we intend to only invite the best photographers for premium placement during this time."
Since I'm far from being amongst the "best photographers", I'll humbly obey their request, and let the privilege of being paid a whopping 10c for an image to the crme de la crme;D

You are always good for a good laugh . . .  so, HA HA!

The one quote from Ansel Adams that stays with me is this:

"You don't take a photograph, you make a photograph."

(I hope I got that right)

PS . . .  I forgot I was talking to a bunch of salty old dogs so I guess everyone knows that quote. :)

463
Right . . .  a lot of hungry photographers out there!

464
Does that mean that the top photographers get all 50,000+ of their images approved first and are on the market for months before we even get a shot?

I hate being a peon.  ???

Thanks for posting the text here, Cathy.  I don't like to have to click links to keep up with discussions here either :)

I doubt the issue is that they are giving some sort of pass to the top guys.  More likely those folks were consulted in the beginning and were part of the site from the planning stages.

I am guessing that the word got out before they are actually ready to begin reviewing submissions.  Notice this was a post on Lee's blog, but there was no general announcement here requesting submissions, and they are familiar with this board.  Maybe those of us who are eager to support them have jumped the gun a little...

That's what I think also . . . . a new site has to make a lot of noise these days to be seen, just mentioning the fact on a blog won't get it done.

465
The Polylooks transfer to Zoonar comes at the end of the month, I believe.  Mine came today also . . .  .35, .35, 1.91 . I sumitted for a payout this morning and 2 hours later got the paypal email.  OK, so lets boogy on . . . .

You can view it in Firefox if you don't want to use IE8.

its so hard to teach an old dog new tricks . . . .  but doesn't this limit the client base a tad?

467
Well, sure would like to see the new site, but I can't get passed the "upgrade your browser" page.  I have IE7, do I really have to upgrade to IE8 just to see what the site looks like?  . . . . .  or is it just me, I have heard a lot of bad reviews of IE8 and am a little cautious.

Alamy.com / Re: 24 is the new 48
« on: May 27, 2010, 04:02 »
Big hard drives are cheap now and when the re-sized image is uploaded, is there any point in keeping it?  It will save a bit of time uploading but I still fear that the site is now going to be swamped with microstock images and sales will be diluted. I am uploading my microstock portfolio now, I have resisted so far but this has changed my mind.

I too have tried to respect Alamy as a non micrtostock type site.  I am not too sure anymore, especially after recieving 50 cents for a sale last month.

Off Topic / Re: First artificial cell is made
« on: May 22, 2010, 07:25 »
I find this development very troubling.  If this cell fines a hospitable habitat who knows what the Darwinian consequence will be.  Will this cell have parasitic properties either now or later, will it mutate into something that can harm the environment or other live forms? If one thinks in terms of  Chaos Theory this is not good news.

123RF / Re: Rejects at 123rf to clear the pending queue?
« on: May 21, 2010, 08:10 »
I uploaded 10 last night and they were already reviewed 6 hrs later. 8 out of 10 were rejected (Poor Lighting/Composition), a model with a very dark business suit, but lit well and with ample detail in the darks, as you can expect with a Canon 5DII and 2 700w lightboxes.

Four days earlier, 9 out of 10 of the same shoot were accepted but the model was wearing a light-toned dress.

I think Ivan's hypothesis is right. They are using an automated process or software to do a pre-evaluation on the light levels. This would explain the super-fast "review". The software is apparently totally dumb, as I had 80%+ acceptance in the 4 years I'm with 123RF, and with a worse cam. The fact that they currently agree to do a manual re-evaluation proves that they are aware of the software flaws. It's either this or the hiring of new totally ignorant reviewers.

I uploaded a bunch of editorial a while ago, and all of that was accepted, which indicates that the reviews were done manually by the old experienced reviewers.

I have no intent whatsoever to beg for re-evaluation. That's me. Don't want it? Fine, it will sell elsewhere. I even deleted the 2 ones that were accepted as they were not as good as the ones rejected, and I will mark this batch as "not uploaded" and replace it with a red stop. No uploads any more till they get their review process right again.

Same experience here.  Last batch had a 50% acceptance ratio with all those taken having a right leaning histogram.

472
Same here for all sites with the exception of SS which seems to be on par.  They say April showers bring May flowers but the garden seems empty.

473
Ive got replay from them:

Hi

Your mail is received. For the investigation of the said photo is deleted
from our database.

All photographs of that photographer is controlled within 72 hours.

Yours sincerely

Fast move. Better check your photos are not there.

For a site that is "located" in the US the english grammar is not very good.  Another red flag.

474
Hi were can I see the rejected ones?
I don't know if the upload process was correct.
I uploaded 50 but forgot to look if the upload process was ok/finished and now 2 are online.....
Yes only 2, so were are the rest of my images are the gone or all rejected?
For the second batch I uploaded also 50 but only 26 are under review right now....where  is the rest (24 images) ?

Yes, this is one frustrating issue that I have with this site!

Yesterday, I uploaded 158 images, however, only 122 showed up in the 'Under Review' queue.

It really frustrates me that I'm unable to view which of my images are in the 'Under Review' queue.   Obviously, for some reason, 36 of my image uploaded images 'went missing', and because of the uploading process, I'm unable to ascertain which of the images 'went missing'.

This is my experience.  It does take some time for the images to come Under Review, and you won't know until later which ones pass.  You just have to wait a few days.  You will recieve an email with the accepted and rejected images listed with explainations. The system works well, much faster than DT or IS and you don't have to worry about catagoires or keywords until later.
