Both Ron and bunhill have made excellent points. And look at the mentality that puts bunhill down just because he doesnt have an SY site. This blind, worshipping following of Leo just baffles me. I understand your concerns ... I had the same when starting my site. What I did was building my site, then presenting it to my lawyer.

After some minor changes in my texts he said: Everything is fine now. Of course I can't give you any legal guarantee, but feel free to have a look to my site or send me an e-mail via my contact form for further exchange of ideas.

This is true for many images, I agree. But my topseller is the same image on Shutterstock and iStock. It was sold over 1000 times on both agencies since 2011. Counting all downloads (any kind of downloads on Shutterstock / iStock sales + sales from PP) I see only a difference of exactly 10 downloads (in favor of iStock), but my income for this image on iStock is only 94% of my income on Shutterstock.
Edit: So in this case both agencies are (almost) on one level, but speaking generally Shutterstock is my top earning agency like it is for most of us.

Software always needs to be developed maintained. Otherwise it inevitably quickly becomes incompatible - perhaps an issue with Paypal, or perhaps some php or Wordpress upgrade will break it. Well it might get to 1000 sites. But almost none of those sites will ever sell much at all. In which case what is the point ? And unless the thing makes money there will be no economic incentive or momentum to support further development.

Sites which can do well without being part of a greater whole would have done well on any platform - including many which currently already look much better across many different devices etc.

I use wordfence since almost one year and never got this email. Only similar emails which inform me about updates of other plugins or the theme.

I use the free version and found the option mentioned ... it seems the free version protects my site.

I just received this mail and thought I share for those who haven't protected their sites:

As of 11am eastern time this morning we are monitoring the largest distributed brute force attack on WordPress installations that we've seen to date. The real-time attack map on www.wordfence.com became so busy that we've had to throttle the amount of traffic we show down to 4% of actual traffic.

A brute force attack is when an attacker tries many times to guess your username password combination by repeatedly sending login attempts. A distributed brute force attack is when an attacker uses a large number of machines spread around the internet to do this in order to circumvent any blocking mechanisms you have in place.

If you're using the free or paid version of Wordfence you should have the option to "Participate in the real-time Wordfence security network" under 'Other options' enabled. This will immediately block any attack originating from an IP address that has attacked other WordPress sites using Wordfence. This is an effective defense against this kind of attack.

We recommend that until this passes you monitor your WordPress websites closely for unusual activity including logins, account creation or changes to the public facing website.
