This may have been discussed or details posted somewhere before but I missed it.

I had a conversation with a company that uses Fotolia's API to license images for POD products.

The company claims to use the Small size of the images for their products and that the API requires to use credits (and NO subscription) for licensing.

So I tried to do some math on how much I would receive for such an API sale. I'm Emerald and in the best case (2 credits base price) a Small size is listed at 6 credits.
A "big" customer may get 6,400 credits for $5,600 which equals to $0.88 per credit. So in my example, 6 credits = $5.28 (as a high discount example).

According to the company, using the API, they pay between 1 and 3 � per image. Where is this price coming from? Needless to say that in that case my royalties are considerably smaller.

This post is not arguing whether Fotolia's license should not be used for PODs etc.

I just want to know if API prices are generally lower (approx. 50% or more). Why would API prices be lower?

I'd greatly appreciate any information regarding this before I ask Fotolia.

It happened in the past and I just noticed that when I submitted a couple files that the setting for "Free Section" was set to yes again although it used to be "No" by default.

I never set it to yes so it couldn't be a saved setting form a previous file submission.

Just watch out for that - if you care.

Leo keeps talking about being the noisy neighbor on the server when running a Symbiostock site. That got me thinking.

I've installed one Symbiostock site so far which is more or less as a test with only a fraction of my portfolio to get the hang of the whole operation. It will remain on the network, so I'm trying to get everything right from the get go.

Eventually I will add a second Symbiostock site on another domain for the rest of my port.

As most of us are hosted on shared hosting packages and after realizing the "big" amount of bandwidth from obviously very few customers performing searches across the network, I started to get concerned.

I'm with Hostgator and like Bluehost they advertise that we have no limits (storage space/bandwidth) which we all know is bogus. No company can offer unlimited and when I did research for my web host, I saw very often that customers were lured into such packages but eventually got kicked off the servers because they created too much ... noise (running forums etc.). I also understand that every host has its own limitations before they actually kick you out and they will let you know beforehand. I'm just not in the mood, having to move my entire Symbiostock installation, including images to another host just because I ignored the potential noise factor.

Whether it's memory usage or bandwidth issues, I'm starting to get worried that network searches (thumbnail transfers, enlarged preview transfers etc.) will eventually explode once customers keep performing searches from any given Symbiostock site.

Are my concerns negligible or may this become a serious issue down the road?

I almost pray that my questions are too stupid and there is nothing to worry about. I'm just not a pro when it comes to high volume traffic issues etc. because Symbiostock hopefully and eventually will become a high traffic beast, right?

OK, I'm starting to lose track of what's happening.

For some reason I'm getting emails from Symbiostock about upgrades of one of my networking sites. I've never seen that before.

Then I notice that the 2.4.7 update is not even available in my Wordpress theme admin menu.

Do I have to download this 2.4.7 update from Symbiostock.com from now on?

Will theme updates not be supported from within Wordpress anymore?

OK, so I have defined a page I created as my home page that is supposed to contain an image slider.

However, I'm having the hardest time to make any slider work (using short code for example).

Anyhow, could someone here roughly outline how they set up their image slider? I think that would help me already. I'm just poking around in the dark.

I got one to work but only when I hard code it into the actual php file (I cannot get the short codes working for some reason). I know it's suboptimal and I want to do it right from the beginning. My front page is set to "Home Page CTAs" as the slider has to cover the width of the entire site (using a 1 column design).

I just woke up to see three (!) Symbiostock user registrations within a matter of a couple of hours on my site.

I checked my user list in Wordpress and all the info people submitted was their email address. No name, no nothing.

I know that the usual registration process of Wordpress just consists of user name and email address.

But wouldn't it be better for marketing purposes as well, to have at least the name for future promotional campaigns so we can address the registered users by their name to make it more personal?

Is there a plugin for Wordpress to make the user put in a name (I"m sure there is but I can hardy open my eyes right now...)?

Also, 2 of the 3 are coming from Asia and are most likely Spam related. No info on the 3rd one.

Don't you think that it would make the site a little more professional by asking about at least the name of the user instead of looking like some registration (user name + email)?

These are no high-priority issues more like, well, wishlists of what could be added/corrected to improve the Symbiostock experience.

1. I'd love to see the images centered on the "product" page. Doesn't really bother me when the image is landscape but don't like it too much when it's vertical.

2. I have no problems giving you and everyone else you mentioned credit to this release but is it possible to add a copyright line to the footer using the admin's name just to emphasize ownership of the content?

3. Could the search function be customized to only search images. If someone wants to use the site just as stock site without any type of blog, it would reduce the clutter a little otherwise the design is nice and clean - don't get me wrong).

First off, I don't want to cause any harm to any photographer who makes their money creating original and creative content.

I've stumbled upon a rather strange issue and I wanted to get the input from the MSG community.

I found a series of RM photos of a microstock photographer which are being distributed through a partner agency at Alamy. All these images are also on sale as RF on all the micros.

First, I didn't think much of it as it is perfectly possible that the partner deal between Alamy and the affiliated agency may have gotten screwed up and Alamy is listing the images wrongly as RM although they technically should be RF.

I checked the partner agency's web site directly where it says that they ONLY license RM content. On their web site it explicitly states that all their images are licensed on a per use basis (RM). These images can be found in their database with a simple site search as well.

A less important assumption of mine would be that the RM agency would not be too happy about the fact that parts of their RM content is being sold as RF AND at micro prices.

I have no intent on causing trouble to the photographer. I'd rather would like to hear whether I should just go ahead and submit my RF stuff to RM agencies as well because we've seen this happening an awful lot in the past years that photographers sell their stuff both RF/RM at the same time with Sean emphasizing that there is technically nothing wrong with that as long as we are in compliance with the agency's terms.
