General Stock Discussion / Re: Tatoos

Do you mean a release from the one who did the tatoo or a release from the model?

I'm curious...

StockXpert.com / Re: Can Anyone Login to StockXpert Yet?
« on: October 26, 2008, 12:13 »
I have the login page book marked but now it comes up with "We're sorry, but the page you have requested could not be found."

I'm not an expert but I think that they changed the names of some of their pages.  So try to log in, find the page you want to use in your bookmarks and save it.  Don't forget to erase the old bookmark.

It should work.

For those of you (like me) who missed it, Canon Canada offers instant rebates on various lenses and accessories.

Here's the link: http://www.canon.ca/pdf/2H08%20Lens%20&%20Acc%20IR_EN.pdf

My suggestion: print the form and leave it on the table so your wife (husband) can see it before Xmas...  And you can even hi-light your choices!  ;)

But I have to admit that I don't know the other ones suggested here...

StockXpert.com / New Opportunity Now Live on Photos.com
« on: October 22, 2008, 17:48 »
Just received this mail few minutes ago:

Well it's been 2 months since Photos.com Plus launched and we just wanted to share a few highlights.

StockXpert contributor royalties have increased by 11% since the launch.
StockXpert images now represent over half of all Photos.com Plus subscription downloads.
StockXpert images now represent 31% of all single image purchases on Photos.com.
We also wanted to let you know about another great opportunity that is now available. Photos.com now has pay-per-download on all photos and illustrations available on the site. This combination brings all the fresh, stylized, relevant community generated content to millions of image buyers with the choice, flexibility and price options that do not exist anywhere today.

What does this mean for you? Another opportunity to earn on Photos.com for your images uploaded on Stockxpert. You will receive a 30% commission for all pay-per-download transactions.

The new pricing options are:
$5 - multimedia
$10 - medium
$25 - high

The following remain unchanged:
$50 - super
$50 - eps
$70 - ultra
$100 - extended license

The sales will show on your balance sheet just like the current pay-per-download sales for super/ultra/eps purchases. You'll notice these prices are higher than the pay-per-download price on Stockxpert which should equate to increased royalties and start setting new standards for community generated content so we can illustrate the increasing value of your work.

For those contributors opted-in to both Subscriptions and Extended License, your images are available on Photos.com and there is nothing more you need to do. Remember we do update Photos.com every week so if you haven't opted-in to both Subscriptions and Extended License you may do so at any time.

As always, please feel free to contact us with any questions or comments. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,
The Stockxpert Team

So I think I will now opt in...

Pixmac / Re: Pixmac reaches 1,000,000 images?!
« on: October 21, 2008, 16:19 »
Very strange...

When you clic on one of your pictures, it shows also similar pictures and on the left side Fresh pictures by..., and these are also my pictures.

but then if you clic on the link All pictures of this author , it shows random pictures, NOT by me.

I don't like this...

« on: October 20, 2008, 16:30 »
You can see desc. here:  http://www.expodisc.com/product-overview.php?cat_id=1&keywords=ExpoDisc

Never heard of it before this thread, but just like Portia, I'm curious...

With Camera Raw, you can adjust the white balance as you wish...  So what's the use of this gadget?

« on: October 18, 2008, 11:05 »
It would be interesting to show in this chart which contributor are exclusives and which are not.

We could then compare the trend graphs...
and feed many many more threads here about exclusive favoritism (or not)  ;)

There is a distinction between wrong keyword and spam.  And I think that IS will adress it.
Quote: We know that people make mistakes. That language can be tricky, and that keywording can be genuinely difficult. If you have a hard time keywording, we want to educate you, not punish you. The resources for proper keywords are available at everyone's fingertips. Here's something to get you started:

But beyond that, there are contributors here who include bad, inappropriate keywords on every single image they upload. Even worse, sometimes the spam is added after a file inspected. There are piles of bad keywords in huge portfolios. We've asked everyone to stop, to change, to improve. Lots of people listened. Some didn't. That's who we're going to have an issue with.

A photo that has 2 or 3 borderline keywords out of 10 is not spammed.  A photo that has 20 bad keywords out of 25 is.  And these ones should be easy to spot.

So I'm pretty confident that IS will handle it correctly.

Cameras / Lenses / Re: What was your first camera and the next?
« on: October 08, 2008, 17:10 »
After 2  or 3 Kodak Instamatic (135 and 110 if I remember) I bought my first SLR back in 1974, age 14.  It was a Praktica L just like the one pictured up here!

In 1985, I bought a Canon EOS 650, one of the first model of the new (at that time) EOS series... And it is still my film camera!

Then I jumped in the Digital era 3 or 4 years ago with a Canon Rebel XT, and last year with my Canon 40D.

Will probably trade it next spring for the 5D MKII...

Funny thread by the way, I really enjoy it!

Canon / Re: Best price you have seen for a Canon lens
« on: September 30, 2008, 11:56 »
I guess you already know this but that lens comes in kit with the 5D MKII for 850$CDN more than the body only (kit 3650$CDN vs body only 2800$CDN in Canada).

So if you plan to change your camera in a near future, it could be an option...

Video Equipment / Sofware / Technique / Re: Sensor Cleaning
« on: September 25, 2008, 16:49 »
Hem, this was not a joke.
Or maybe are you all already aware of this method...  :o

Well I tought that this was not a serious method... :-X

What are the advantages of a natural feather vs pads that are designed for it?

I don't think that feathers were designed to clean sensor...  ;D

StockXpert.com / Re: Subsciptions everywhere
« on: September 25, 2008, 11:49 »
I never opted in for subs and I did not notice any change in my (regular) sales...

So the question is: should I opt in now?

From what I read here, subs seem to add some more sales on top of regular ones.  And like others here, I've seen a decrease in my sales at SS; so maybe I'm losing sales overall.

1. Duplicate download, which I can somewhat understand.

Always been reason no 1 (on iStock).

Of course I do also understand, but I'm amazed at it.  Taking the time to write or call iStock or Dreamstime to explain that you clicked twice on the download button  ::) and asking for a 3$ refund... But I respect it, customer is allways right!

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Has your camera ever needed some repair?
« on: September 10, 2008, 07:07 »
I never use USB plug, I have a card reader on my PC, integrated, and it is easier for me to eject memory card and stick it into PC and transfer images.

Looking at all the tiny pins inside the card socket I tought  I was bright using the usb wire for small batches of photos...

I learned something...

As for the month delay, the salesperson told me that Canon Service Center here in Montreal had a very big summer for repairs!  I'm not sure I like to hear things like that!

Cameras / Lenses / Has your camera ever needed some repair?
« on: September 09, 2008, 17:12 »
I just sent my Canon 40D for service...Could take as long as 1 month!

The problem is with the mini USB socket, something seems broken inside so I can't use it.  When I try to plug the cable, the socket goes loose inside the camera...

Have you ever had some problem with yours?  What problem and what type of camera?

That Canon was introduced last spring as an entry-level SLR ( below the 400/450D).

See here:http://www.letsgodigital.org/en/19829/canon-1000d-review/

I guess we have to wait a littlebit more...  ;)

EDITED:  I did not see the mention Canon 7D at first look!  So yes, we have a name !!!

On my 40D, the longuest side is 3888 px; so my 10 Mpx Canon qualify for a Super but not an Ultra.

Pixart, you should re-do your math!  ;)

StockXpert.com / Re: Late breaking news: New EULA
« on: August 15, 2008, 20:02 »
From what I read in the above message, it seems to be ok.  May be I should wait to see the new EULA directly from the photos.com site...

I never opted in subs at StockXpert.  But now I am thinking about it because:
- The way StockXpert reacted to what I consider a bad move from them.  I don't know of any other site that listen that much to their contributors, from public forums AND from their own.
- The new EULA seems in line with what I accept on other subs sites; so I think it is fair to give them the same treatment.

So I'll take a few days to think about it and decide  if I opt in   ;)
