4/4/13 - updated testing theme - please download v1.2.1

Please note: The best thing you can do for the project at this time is to tell others about Symbiostock, and grow your network.

See this important intro:
https://github.com/orangeman555/symbiostock/blob/master/README.md

Download:

Here is a child-theme for you. This allows you to change the appearance and functionality of your site independent of Symbiostock theme. - make it yours!

Post all of your error messages here, and any other issues. I'll attack the nastiest bugs first, and get to the others. In a few days I'll release an updated version of Symbiostock. Thanks all you testers. This is very helpful.

If you don't want to miss an update notice, get on the list - leo [at] symbiostock.com. Once the theme is healthy and well tested, I'll put it up wordpress.org for automatic updates.

This is the most crucial part of the release, so future downloaders (and you!) can enjoy smooth operation of the theme.

And another important note: The successful installs on a relatively unique theme has been pretty good. For something this new problems are the norm in the beginning. It doesn't necessarily set the stage for things to come like..."Yeah, Symbiostock sites...full of errors..." this is a natural part in the creation part. 75% of the issues will be fixed with next download.

Hammond: "When they opened Disneyland in 1956 nothing worked."
Ian: "Yeah, but John, if The Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down the pirates don't eat the tourists."

Errors/Bugs/And Other Fun Challenges List:

+--------------+
Image upload errors:

If the image uploader trips up (crashes) please send me the images you used. I am having a hard time generating errors on my end. Which means it might be a server thing. Make a dropbox account https://www.dropbox.com/ and email me private access to the images you used that generated the errors.

POSSIBLY RESOLVED: Thanks to a few comments this problem seems to have worked itself out.  Chances are you need to change your memory settings. Thank you Tinny and cidepix for jogging my memory on this. In setting up a server that does image processing the first thing you need to do is amp these up. If you need help with this feel free to ask for details on how to do this.

+--------------+
Installer Errors:

Seems to be solved when you install in root. Soon I'll make it so you can install in lower levels. Edit: BIG PRIORITY - Seems everyone wants a lower level installation.
- Appears to be fixed now that non-root-installs are possible.
+--------------+
EULA Mis-link bug:

License Agreement Links is Funky/Wrong

Solved. Downloadable update available soon..

+--------------+
Search, Category, or Network 404-not-found:

your-site ... go to  /wp-admin/options-permalink.php

Is permalinks set to "post"? Should fix it.
Fixed. Was part of non-root problem.

- Hope to make more flexible soon.

+--------------+
Error message above header in paginated category/search results:

FIXED! 3-27-2013

+--------------+
Enabled Konami Cheat Code:
Symbiostock networking/admin area - push: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, b, a, b, a, ENTER
Unlocks an unlimited sales cheat.  ;D

+--------------+
Slashes before quotes (\') from where you input the text in options panels:

Whups!  :o Fixed it.

This might be user error...

When going to the image categories at http://stompstock.com/?page_id=9

I get a 404 when trying to go to any category, including those that have content.

For now that is how I have it set up. Will be more flexible soon.

I don't have this problem with my installation, no matter if I select a category that has no or some pictures in it.

Try Leo's suggestion.

Panoramic images will get a funky looking watermark since the watermark won't resize. It just sits on the bottom of the image, regardless of being cut off.
Well that's what's happening in my case since I decided to create a square watermark utilizing the entire watermark area.

It might be some tedious work to program an automatic watermark resize for different aspect ratios or I just have to reduce my watermark size/aspect ratio.

Not really hard - right now the watermark just *splats* dead center. BTW - did you change your watermark ok or  are you using the S default one? I can make different watermarking options in the future.

The option to use your own watermark would be fantastic.

You have that option - you found it right?

I just tried to add my own End User License Agreement but I must be doing something wrong.

I added my text to the page that is installed by default.
http://xyz112233.com/end-user-license-agreement/ - saved and working if I access it directly.

Then in the Symbiostock settings at the bottom there is a field for:
See License Link:
I enter that URL into the field and try to save it but it won't save.

So whenever I look at an image and want to click on the End User License Agreement link, it just reloads the image page instead of directing me to the agreement page.

Am I missing something?

I created my own watermark in the maximum pixel dimensions that you posted in the settings section.

I guess I could just make it in a 4x2 aspect ration to avoid that problem for now but then it won't cover that much of an area for portrait oriented images...   :o

Once the images are being watermarked, there is no going back right?

I would have to re-upload them in order to apply a new watermark or even if you implement a script for watermark resizing?

Yeah, most settings should be applied at beginning of site's creation. Watermark is a big one.

SYM install worked ok in a pix-now.com/sym  for wordpress install

the wordpress stuff works, but i cant save anything in settings - eg, click to activate, then save, but when  i come back it's reset.  same for setting credit/product page

===================

tried image upload - the images went up just fine, but on 'process images' got a 404  when it tried

http://www.buydigpix.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=image&page=symbiostock-process-images

this might be part of the root install problem --

http://www.buydigpix.com/sym/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=image&page=symbiostock-process-images

gets me to the process images page correctly (so symbio doesnt seem to know about my subdir when creating links - or is it just calling wp-admin/..... and assuming the front part will be found?

on process images page get

Fatal error: Call-time pass-by-reference has been removed in /homepages/35/d235364144/htdocs/sym/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/symbiostock_image_processor.php on line 467

Thats a whole new set of errors! But your right-same problem. Yeah, basically anything not installed on root level (you know, a dedicated symbiostock site) will fail right now.

http://www.buydigpix.com/sym/symbiostockinstall <- tears

Theme was designed for

http://www.buydigpix.com/symbiostockinstall <-happy

But since SOOO many people have the idea to sub-level installs of it, I'll work that in soon. Thankfully I've gotten some help on that, and appears to be a few small adjustments.

trouble is EVERYBODY wants to control from the root and i'm already running my smugmug site from the root so only option would be another yet  another domain

Interesting point! I guess by having Symbiostock be flexible in that area as well can only make for more advantages.

Changed the original post to update you on what will be done with all these bug reports. Keep them coming. Literally try to break it, then bring the fragments and pieces to me.

Search Issues?

I updated a keyword on one of my test images and it does not appear when searching for that updated keyword. Is there a way to re-index, or do we just need to get our keywords right the first time around?

The search function also does not appear to utilize the words in the image title.

As you are selling (licencing) them yourself you can sell anything you want - just mark them as such and include editorial in your EULA - see the examples posted by Jamie in the General Symbiostock section

Image Categories

I created a couple of sub-categories and placed some images in those categories. The sub-category shows in the category list as just another category, not under the parent category. The parent category shows there are images in that category, but they don't show when that category is selected.

The attached screen shot shows this. I have 4 images in "places/travel". 3 of those images are in the "United States" sub-category (places/travel is the parent). When I click the United States category, I see my 3 images. When I click on the places/travel category that shows 4 images, I see nothing.

Did you put them in the parent category as well as the child category?

Edit:  I see what you mean, I have put Dog as a child category of Animals and in the list when editing it show up correctly, but when you put an image up and list it in both the categories do not show as sub-categories
