Now, after using the new installation for a while, it's not working anymore and just reloads the product page :O

You jumped on it too quick! Now the proper link is up.
This one has some more bug fixes from today, 9lives branding templates (thank you!), and an FTP path if you want to FTP your images (in uploads page)

Huh, so he actually does sleep after all. ;)

I'm going to start slowing it down again. Haven't "lived" much since i started this project. Gonna be slowing down a bit as this continues to improve and people start using it.

I had to stop for a while too. When uploading images they would load and then I get the warning sign saying it didn't upload properly. I tried various file names and file sizes with no luck. I had to take it down for now since I need my root site to redirect somewhere else for now. This is really cool and I hope you get the sub directory thing soon so I can play with it more.

One thing you can count on: If the site is not at root, it will not work. And no patch/workaround will make it work.

But another thing you can count on :D --- I'm changing it so it will soon.

Hi Farbled - I spent quite a few hours trying to get my images (over 5Mb) to load as well - eventually succeeded and I put details in this post http://www.microstockgroup.com/symbiostock-technical-support/image-upload-issue/ which might help you

Somebody testing symbiostock just emailed me and sent me an awesome solution. I might be able to implement it tomorrow. Makes much better use of memory! Awesome.

Leo you responded to my issue with the license agreement thing and that you already uploaded a corrected version of Symbiostock.

I have an inquiry: Could you start using version numbers for your releases?

Even with these "few" bug reports I'm having trouble keeping up when you post a new release!

That would help others probably as well. Maybe others could chime in how they feel about that.

But thanks for continuously improving Symbiostock!

I just installed the version that you posted in your original post and I think I broke it again.

The user license still won't work and it reloads the product page. I cleared my cache etc.  ???

I've been a silent observer up until now, but this is a fantastic project. Just got my clean install online using today's build of Symbiostock. Tried my first upload of an image and got this when I tried to process to Drafts:

I'm hosting with 1and1.com - is this as a result of some restrictions on what commands they allow? Anyway, is it fixable?

Somebody testing symbiostock just emailed me and sent me an awesome solution. I might be able to implement it tomorrow. Makes much better use of memory! Awesome.

Me?  :)
Since I had problems with only 64M memory for php on my server, and I could upload max 3Mpix images, I made some changes in code, so limit increased to about 8Mpix. Still too low for me, so I replaced php GD resize function with Image Magick and 36Mpix images are processed now. I didn't tried bigger :)

Editing Images
Sorting images does not "hold" so that if you have draft images "filtered" so you can find them easily you do one, then have to hunt though or re-sort which is not fast,
Later it might be useful to sort by day or week as well as month?

My upload limit is 25MP (Hostgator).

Could you (or Leo) elaborate how to increase that limit?

Click-Click - does this post help http://www.microstockgroup.com/symbiostock-technical-support/image-upload-issue/msg306446/#msg306446

I did check my php.ini and these are my values:

upload_max_filesize: 64M
post_max_size: 64M
memory_limit: 256M
max_execution_time: 30
max_input_time: 60

no idea what else to change...  :o but thanks for your response!

I ended up contacting my ISP for assistance, although Leo did mention he might have a fix on the way I think

When I was looking for answers on the web I came across posts mentioned that sometimes .htaccess limits file sizes, in mine it refers to the php.ini file for limits

Do you mean 25 megapixels or 25 megabytes?
If 25MPix, solution will be in few hours, I think :)

Hello guinea pigs!  ;D Thanks for posting all the updates, puzzles, gotchas, annoyances, and stuff like that for me to track. Your sacrifice is laying a nice foundation for future Symbiostockers. I'll keep addressing these things daily until there is nothing left to fix(reasonably).

Even with these "few" bug reports I'm having trouble keeping up when you post a new release!
That would help others probably as well. Maybe others could chime in how they feel about that.

Sure. I guess its a good time to start doing that.

The user license still won't work and it reloads the product page. I cleared my cache etc.  ???

The current one should work. Put your license page in trash, delete from trash. Deactivate/Activate Theme. If its not fixed, I will be amazed.

Steve

I knew this would happen to  someone. I actually saw it coming. Want an extended answer?

There are a few functions - file_get_contents(), fwrite() (maybe some others) that some hosts don't like because they can be abused. Very few hosts exclude use of them. Wordpress will now allow a theme to be submitted to their repository with them being used.

During the course of this, I might be able to find ways to replace them with alternatives. In the meantime though I'm pretty sure the theme can't live without them. Most wordpress themes revolve around branding and common functions. This theme is an image processing and selling theme which also networks. Needless to say there are some unique issues to be worked through.

I'll keep finding ways to work around those functions, but we might be stuck with them.

Could you (or Leo) elaborate how to increase that limit?

If you have access to php.ini, find this line: upload_max_filesize = and change it to something higher. Using FTP is also an option - you can see the folder in upload page now.
-----------

I won't be available much today, but my main focus is on two things for the rest of the testing: Image processor and making the theme compatible for installs outside of the root level.

I hope to have the improved image uploader available for you tonight, because ajt is an awesome human! I also fixed a bug when a jpeg is processed without keywords :D PS - to ajt - replacing anything with imagemagick can only help. Its far superior. Do you happen to know how standard it is for servers to have that? I was under the impression not everyone had imagemagick functions available.

Might be slightly difficult but I'll look that.

One more thing then I'm gone for a while. Please post every possible problem you can think of regarding the image uploader processor. I really have to perfect that script.

I don't know if imagemagick is everywhere. I think that Symbiostock should check it and use imagick or current method to process images.

I would have to contact Hostgator support to change the value, which shouldn't be a big deal.

However, I have a follow-up question regarding this limit:

When I upload images larger than 25 Megapixel the Symbiostock uploader works just fine and gives me a check mark after successful upload.
The problem starts later.

The uploaded image will still show up on the "Process images" page, so once I try to process an image to Drafts something goes wonky.

Once I goto "All Images" I can see a database entry for that image but no preview image. I can make it go live but the image itself is missing.
IPTC data is all there but no image.

It was exactly "my" problem with image processing. It is resolved now, so wait for next version of Symbiostock.

Stupid question, after trashing the license page (which comes with Symbiostock by default - I added my text to it) and deleting it from trash (no idea where the trash bin is located - but I guess I'll find it...) I would have to create that page again, so the newly activated theme actually has something to display right?

You can override it using the root .htaccess file. Pop something like this in

php_value post_max_size 25M
php_value upload_max_filesize 25M

problems with new version -- installed to /cascoly/  subfolder   that part went ok, but still get:
activate network wont stay on

save changes to prices wont  stay

click on save - nothing happens, no error

--------------------
then upload 8 images, works ok

click to process & get 404 for:
http://www.buydigpix.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=image&page=symbiostock-process-images

change to
http://www.buydigpix.com/cascoly/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=image&page=symbiostock-process-images

so previous call did not get path correctly

and now get
Fatal error: Call-time pass-by-reference has been removed in /homepages/35/d235364144/htdocs/cascoly/wp-content/themes/symbiostock/inc/classes/image-processor/symbiostock_image_processor.php on line 467

467 is last line below:
    private function read_IPTC( $file_name )
    {
        $dir = $this->upload_dir;

        $data = array( );

        $info = $this->files[ $file_name ];

        if ( in_array( 'jpg', $info[ 'extensions' ] ) ) {
            $size = GetImageSize( $dir . $file_name . '.jpg', &$info );

?? perhaps write  to screen "processing image" $dir $file_name
