Watched a Youtube video earlier from one of the contributors on here (Microstock Life). He suggested that having images in your portfolio that are very similar to each other is (sometimes) not a great thing. That being the case, I am tempted to delete maybe 10 of them and keep the rest.

Question is, if they haven't sold whatsoever, can it still do harm to my account or does it not really matter to the rest of the account?
I have very often uploaded several images from a series (both photos and AI images), as long as they are different enough.
And it also happens from time to time that 3 or 4 images from a series sell in one go, so in my experience a series that is not too long can't do any harm.

I could imagine a possible negative point if you have 2 similar photos and they are both bought a little instead of just 1 photo with significantly more sales, then you have 2 mediocrely placed photos instead of a top seller.

But these are all just guesses - you probably can't really know with a system of this size of sellers and images.

But I wouldn't delete existing pictures - as Mat already wrote, then they can't sell any more.

@Mat
Thanks for the info - the official email has already arrived with the number of acceptances.

Canva / Re: Almost any images get rejected instantly?!
« on: November 19, 2023, 19:52 »
I have now done some more upload tests and almost no file came through.
There were many different photo motifs - backgrounds, artwork, landscape, isolated objects, hands, technology, solar and many other things.
Rejection rate >98% and almost all images rejected within 3-5 seconds.

It's probably time to give up because it really makes no sense at all.
And we don't hear anything from the official side either - apparently they just don't want our assets, which is a shame.

Have a nice day@all

By the way: About 20 isolated png's are in review now for weeks there

Anyone want to submit a more fitting expansion of TRUST, eg. the S could stand for "Slashed Royalties"?
Hmm... what about:
Tiny Rewards and Unethically Slashed royalties Terror

What kind of site is this, where does the video come from and how much does it pay the authors?

if you scroll down on the page, you will find "Copyright 2023 Freepik Company S.L. All rights reserved."

I tried my luck again with 100 backgrounds (made with camera and not with AI) and within 2 seconds (looked at the clock) 94 were rejected and I don't even see a rejection reason - but how to add a rejection reason in 2 seconds too ;-)

In an upload before that, about 20 of 150 images had come at least after "in review" - 2 days later these 18 were also rejected -> rejection rate 99%.
And no, I upload there only things that were accepted on the relevant agencies without major problems.
Sorry to hear that! I've sent you a PM, would love to take a look :)
Thanks for your PM, i just replied and hopefully the reply did reach you (didn't get a confirmation).

Looking forward what the reason for the rejection was :-)

Have a sunny day@all

If they stick to their word, a payout should come in November - whether you believe it is up to you :-)

At least I hope that a payout will come, as the amount was quite good, at least for me.

Uploading anything on Canva really doesn't make sense anymore and if you then take into account the rip-off with the "one-time AI boost payment".

And what really surprises me - Canva doesn't seem to care at all, otherwise someone from there would have surely said something about it - because they are reading along here :-)

Happy Halloween,
Michael

PS: And yes, of course I realize that I am far too unimportant to interest anyone there - but you could also just say that, would at least be honest :)

Thank you Mir - I guess I was looking too hard for an email :-)
To keep you informed on the topic of "Was it all to Boost AI Payment":
I got a really quick response from support with clear and concise answers, so from there a "thumbs up" for support.

However, the content of the answers is really sobering.
I was told that the "one-time Boost payment" is 20% of the average last month's earnings.
So it is calculated completely according to the use of the image data and not according to the amount of data, which in my opinion is already the wrong approach for an AI training, but well so it is.

If we now take 20% of the average last monthly revenue (which is 1.67% of the average annual revenue - 20 divided by 12) as a one-time "boost payment" for the use of the AI training, this results in my case with 8966 photos in a usage fee of $2.01 divided by 8966 = $0.000224, i.e. 0.02 cents per image.

Furthermore I got the hint in the support that the future monthly AI usage fees can be significantly lower, quote:
-> "To set your expectations, this initial payment is intentionally larger than what the monthly payments will be since those payments will be based on your upcoming content.".

So it will still be significantly less than $2.01 - Um, hello?

We were already upset when iStock set the royalties at 15% and when Shutterstock restarted the hamster wheel with the steps every year and cut our royalties by about 60%.

But what is happening here at Canva is, in my personal opinion, really unsurpassable in terms of greed.
For me, this is really completely ridiculous and absurd.

I realize that I'm risking my Canva account with this post, because I'm sure I'll make myself unpopular there.
But there really are limits to greed and they are exceeded here by lengths.

This just had to come out now,
Greetings, Michael

Hi DannyCanva,

...
I just received $2.01 for my initial participation in the AI Creators program for my 8,966 photos.
Sorry, but I can only hope this is a joke, because $0.000224 can hardly be adequate compensation for using photos to train your AI.
...

I hope there will be some more compensation here and ask for some official info on this.
For context, I'll quote myself - sorry about that :-)

Since we don't seem to get an answer here to the question whether (in my case $2.01) this was the total compensation for our assets (in my case 9000 images), I just spent a good half hour on the Canva site looking for a support email - with no result.
I'm probably just too blind to find it :)

Does anyone have a Canva support email address handy so I can follow up on whether that was all the compensation?

Thank you,
Michael

PS: And yes I know you could have clicked opt-out, but that's not the point here. The point is at least reasonably fair compensation.

Adobe Stock / Re: Adobe missions. Participate?

I can no longer see the missions page. Isn it because I did not take part immediately?
I think if you do not have an actual mission in review AND you are not selected to take part in an actual mission, the "mission tab" might be not visible - but I am just guessing.

Thank you for the hint!
have checked it - nothing there :-)

Yes I have an amount in Contributor Fund on October 24. It is about 40% down on the previous payment, which I guess is not surprising given the overall slump in SS sales as well as their mediocre implementation of AI.
Interesting and thanks for letting us know!
I still do not have a contributor fund in my list - maybe this will come later today... anyone else with an amount there so far?

And yes, not really surprising the amount is going down.

New contributor fund payment is showing up today.
Oh, how do you know - do you have an amount there yet? I don't have anything in the Shutterstock sales overview yet.

243
I think so too. According to what was written in the detailed information, there will be a monthly payment if they use our content for AI development.
I would be very happy if you are right and this is "only" the monthly payment.

But there it also says very clearly below the payment "We've given your first payment a one-time boost as special thanks....".
"We've given..." is the past tense and so it means that the one-time payment in my case should already be included in the $2.01.

That's why I would like to see an official information here and I think with 9k images you are allowed to ask for it @DannyCanva :-)

Hi DannyCanva,

I just received $2.01 for my initial participation in the AI Creators program for my 8,966 photos.
Sorry, but I can only hope this is a joke, because $0.000224 can hardly be adequate compensation for using photos to train your AI.

To put this in context - with the same portfolio this is:
-> 0.71% of what Shutterstock paid for the same portfolio
-> 0.67% of what AdobeStock paid for the same portfolio
-> 1.10% of what BigStock paid for the same portfolio

I hope there will be some more compensation here and ask for some official info on this.

Many thanks,
Michael

... BUT my total number of accepted images goes DOWN instead of up.  So I can only conclude that they are rejecting older images, or "cleaning up" my port.
Sorry for probably asking (I really don't find Canva's Contributor interface intuitive) - but where can I see the number of assets I've accepted?

Canva / Re: Almost any images get rejected instantly?!

Are the silhouettes jpgs or pngs with transparent background? Canva does not accept images with objects isolated on white background, it has to be transparent.

I would not know about the other images. I don't think they break any "rule", but I don't really see them as very suitable for Canva. Canva isn't a typical microstock agencie where people buy photos, but where people design stuff, so they are looking for "design elements". I can't really see these images being used for things like posters, websites, greeting cards, booklets or multimedia presentations.
Thanks, that are really good hints - the silhouettes are not transparent, I will try that - should be done within some minutes :-)

A large amount of my images (20%+) is backgrounds and textures, where I thought those are design elements - maybe they are just over saturated with that.

Canva / Almost any images get rejected instantly?!
« on: October 14, 2023, 17:39 »
Hello,

I now upload photos to more than 15 stock sites and on all of them I can see why an image is rejected from time to time.

Only on Canva about 95% of my images are rejected within 2-3 seconds of appearing in the image list and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I have added a few examples in images below - different areas like background textures, silhouettes and my last Tenerife holidays :-)
(These images have been accepted 90%+ on about 15 pages).

Does anyone perhaps have a good tip as to why almost everything is rejected within a few seconds and how to get images through there?

Thank you,
Michael
