From Wisconsin sitting by the fireplace and the snow is falling outside in 10 degree weather. I love it! Still a kid at 71 years old. I will soon be at the Ski Lodge getting some shots in action.
It is fun to see where you other guys and gals are from! Many surprises!!
Have a great holiday season, be it Christmas or Hanuka.
Enjoy your family's!

OK you guys! I downloaded the filezilla program .... now I just have to learn how to use it. I fear uploading a hundred images at once and having them all rejected for some dumb reason that I knew nothing about.
Advise on that welcomed also. I have been a photographer longer than I care to remember but some of the tech stuff with computers leaves me behind.
Thanks! -Larry
You can upload as many as you like via FTP and leave them there in the queue. Then you can select few shots and start adding categories and submit them, while the rest stays in the queue. You can learn from there what is acceptable and what is not, so you can go back to the queue and submit some more or delete the shots with the new insight.
That's what I do and even if I'm an almost total newbie to this game and to photography in general, i can keep my Acceptance Rate to about 70% on DT, and learn in the process. It works nicely in my opinion.
Fran, that is good news! I thought that when you uploaded the images they would be in the approval stage and too late to do anything. You have relieved many of the fears of this old dinosaur! -Larry

Free FTP just in case you want to make your life easier. Filezilla
http://filezilla-project.org/
FTP is also built-in to Windows, which makes it free, too.

You can take a look at my portfolio on DT. it's easier than to tell you what kind of images you have to submit. I have good acceptance ratio there, good sales and I am satisfied with DT. I never had big problems with rejections there and somehow they seem to like what I shot. It's my second earner after SS.
I am checking everyones portfolio that has a link along with their post. Your work looks as though you truly like variety, not just stock oriented stuff. I'm about the same on that, I shoot what I like and if they like it fine, if not to heck with them. Thanks! -Larry

what about paypal protection program? they can give your money back, if you payed via paypal.
I got over 100 things on ebay (including Canon EF 70-200 f4L and Canon EF 100 f2.8 MACRO lenses), without any problems. Only once package was lost and seller gave me refund.
Buying on eBay is not the problem. PayPal and eBay both favor the buyer not the seller! This December 23, I will have been an eBay seller/buyer for 10 years. I have for all practical purposes quit. eBay is going the wrong way and I can see an end to their long reign as king of the auction sites. I do expect them to fail in a big way and soon. I may be wrong, but time will tell. -Larry

I know that every site has it's do and don't do policy's. Advise on image types they do not like or like best. What is the most common reasons for rejects? Selling options: Subs, sizes, etc. I do not use FTP so I up load via single image 10-30 at a time as their software allows. If you look at my BigStock port you will see what I like to upload. I know Like and should are two different things. Thanks a bunch in advance! -Larry

I personally think that most of the problems with BigStock rejects that do not make any sense at all are from new reviewers that are not properly supervised.
By supervised I mean: All accepted and rejected images from any new reviewer should have to be double checked by a very experience reviewer that does know th business needs and policy's, Once they get it right then turn them lose to be on their own.
I have pulled out most of my hair over issues with stupid rejects.
I think that many of the new reviewers have been fired or just let go as conditions are improved at BigStock at this time.

For three years, every commission I've received at BigStock has been in 50 cent increments. Today I had one for 87 cents. I can't find anything anywhere that explains what this commission is for. Did something change I don't know about?
Did you contact BigStock and ask them? They should know. I suspect a EL sale. -Larry

UPDATE on reviewers and review time on BigStock. I gave up on them a while back and then went back on and gave them another try. I'm happy to report that approval times are taking longer and I think that is a sign of less reviewers that do not know anything. I Hope they fired them! Approval are now 100% with no crappy reject reasons. Me happy now! -Larry

I would sell the camera and buy a new one. Then only change lenses in a clean spot! I use my kitchen table and blow the dust off of the camera and lens and do a quick change. Never outdoors.
I carry two cameras most of the time. Canon XSi with L 70-200mm f2.8 and Canon XTi with L 24-105mm f4 So I rarely ever have to change lenses, just switch cameras.
Expensive that way but worth it if you do a lot of shooting.

Well, first - it's not me in the picture :-)
This sample has zero noise reduction. After I run Noise Ninja on it the background is good enough for microstocks, so I am pretty sure I will be selling it without downsizing (except Shutterstock. I did not post the noise edited version for the sake of fair representation of G10. Perhaps I should post it for comparison.
I for one would like to see the finished version @ full size. Good work. -Larry

I've just got a G10 this Saturday and tested it yesterday. For it's size it takes pretty good pictures.

Here you can see a full res 7Mb file saved with quality 12:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cool-photos/3093655660/sizes/o/
ISO 80, RAW -> JPG. Zero noise reduction, zero sharpening.
First class example! You are properly exposed (with flash fill from the camera) while the background is way under exposed and noisy. If someone views your image at each of the available sizes from your link, you can quickly see what happens when the original file is made smaller. Just for fun, re post the shot with the image size on the short side at 2000 pixels and from there it would require very little processing to sell it. In fact try selling the "Photographer in the alley" shot and see if you actually can. I vote yes! -Larry

Of those of you who own a G10 do you have any problems getting images accepted? I want to buy my daughter a camera and would like to know if I could use it the odd time.
Peter
Peter, this would be a great camera for your daughter to learn photography with. For yourself: Use RAW at all times with lowest ISO to help control noise and CA's I have hundreds of images accepted with the G6 and G9 and I will now buy the G10. All of my equipment is Canon DSLR's and with "L" lenses and the G10 is no match for them. So why own one? Simple, I always have a camera with me and if I have a planned shoot it is the DSLR's that get the job. How many times have you said "I wish I had my camera now?" I never say that anymore as I do not leave home without it. (Any camera is better than no camera.) Noise and CA problems for ANY camera can Be greatly reduced with proper exposure, lowest ISO and RAW. Then reduce th size of the image to about 2000 pixels on the short side. Hope this helps! -Larry

I have managed to get only 30 images accepted since August and have Not One Single Sale. And, is there any way to see if my pics are being seen?
My BigStock enthusiasm is waning wrapidly.
On BigStock if you mouse over an image you get a larger view. No need to actually click on the image for a larger view. So view counts on BigStock mean nothing. Sales: The economy is in a slump so I would guess that most photo buyers are using what they have in stock rather than buy more at this time. My sales for October are less than a third of last year at this time. I'm sure you know that Nature, Senics, Artsy shots are the slowest sellers of all on any site. Your images are very nice, give them time and upload more, lots more anything less than a thousand images on line is a very small portfolio. Hope this helps! -Larry

I accidentally ordered this from my distributor instead of a compact flash. I would like to get rid of it since I don't need it and I'm asking $40 USD + shipping (which is exactly what I bought it for)
If anyone is interested please let me know

On the forum they said they are actively going after customers ....... But ....... according to this, their views are going down below low. http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/yaymicro.comI have over 1700 images on there .... Me thinks me might have made a boo-boo in doing that! For the good news, On Featurepics.com I got 4 sales right away and i just started uploading to them a couple of weeks ago. -Larry

I think I will wait also as they have not even started to market the site yet! I do not expect any sales at all before the first of the year. -Larry

My sales at BigStock have been pretty sluggish lately too. But I agree with RGebbie that it is a pleasant and well run site. Very friendly customer service, fast payouts, and no crazy arbitrary rejections. "NO CRAZY ARBITARY REJECTIONS" You do not have a link to your BigStock Portfolio .... I'm just wondering if you upload more than 1 or 2 shots a month or in a year. (I have 2,045 on there.) Crazy stupid rejections are my number one complant about BigStock. -Larry

This photo was accepted by some and rejected by one. Is it a stock marketable shot? "School children on a class outing with their teachers." I thanks you for your comments, good or bad. Thanks!! -Larry

Very nice work. Looks like its a 5D body all the way, but really as long as its not as hideous as the A900 from Sony, all I care about is the insides
21-25 MP, no noise to ummm, ISO 52000 ( ) and 6.5 fps with pro-level autofocus that locks when you do sports and wildlife...is that too much to ask? I'm waiting so quietly and patiently but I fear that everyone else is too and I won't be able to get my hands on it before Christmas
Do not worry! Canon does this every year just before Christmas. I bet you can buy the new "whatever model " by mid November. All the DSLR's since the Digital Rebel have been available for Christmas the year of introduction. -Larry

Slow sales here also. (and getting slower by the day!)
The reason could be that they are treating buyers as badly as the photographers on the site.
Or now that they refresh the site every week or so there is nothing new to see on a daily basis.
I know photographers are quiting I have had several email me and tell me so. The reason they are quiting is not just the rejections .... it is the stupidity and insulting reasons for rejectons!
My computer monitor is calibrated for accuracy very week, I use CRT and an LCD monitors. both calibrated to check my work on both before uploading to any site. Then to have an approver tell me he rejected my shots as "too dark or too light" tells me he does not have a calibrated monitor or is just plane using a reason for a reject.
And the too dark or too light rejection kills me. He did not know if it was too dark or too light? I have to guess what he was thinking! Dumb!
Needless to say I had more on the site ready for the approval process, but I beat them to the punch ... I deleted them all and save them the time of doing it.
I will upload there never again. I am done.
It was a nice site some time back before they made the big change by adding a bunch of new approvers and rejecting nearly everything with a stupid reason or just "we have enough of this subject."
I was a professional photographer 30 or 40 years before most of them were born.
'nuff said.

Update! The answer is: "Larry, "visited" (by you) links are underscored. not visited are not. Thanks, Elena."So if you visit your own image it will be underscored but only be able to be seen by you. Mystery solved! -Larry
