There are now two extremes I only get rejections now from I-Stock for copyright reasons for SS my rejection rate is embarrassing - I think SS demand a particular look but some reviewers just appear to reject everything out of hand

Just wondered Do you find Editorial pics worthwhile on IS - what do buyers like in general how do they compare with RF sales?

If you look on getting accepted and selling the odd photo as a learning experience its a good hard technical training. It won't teach you much about the artistic side of photography though!

Thanks for your very helpful reply Teddy :-). Due to personal circumstances I was below the tax threshold but did a self assessment. Combined with some other interests and with the ability to undertake more photographic work I intend to increase income - interesting times!! Not sure about an accountant I'm pretty good at that sort of stuff.

Thanks for the advice easier than I thought - will be an awful long time before I get anywhere near the VAT threshold!!!

Thanks yes I would be a sole trader so is it as simple as claiming "reasonable" expenses (and keeping records of course).

Does anyone fromUK especially have any thoughts about at what point its worth treating Mstock as a serious business for Tax purposes etc rather than just declaring the extra income?

"IF" and in my experience they don't

I've found "views" pretty random and meaningless on all sites - its sales that matter

My "business plan" was to work on this for three years and decide if it was worth carrying on my plan now is to try and grow income each month. There are too many variables and too little data to make any rational forecast .

depends how much new content you have loaded i guess. I try and just focus on whether my income is going up - you can get bogged down in confusing and misleading stats -

I've decided to upload a few RM pics to Shutterstock, RF123, Dreams people (not celebs) at events and places landmarks any ideas on what proportion of RM to RF sales I could I expect - I'm thinking fewer?

ftp - they do have slightly different protocol requirements than most "Require explicit FTP over TLS" in encryption mine is set up in Filezilla site manager. Mind you buyers seem to have been disabled for me

Shutterstock seem to be going through a very picky phasse on rejections - I think you are right pictures are rejected because they have perceived LCV

How big is your portfolio? It may be a volume issue I think I'm probably below average success (certainly on this site) but aim to upload about 20 new pics each week. Its almost beginning to seem worth while after 3 years!

Keep uploading and if your income is growing then you are doing OK.

If there any concerns about trademarks copyright etc they can sit in a queue for a while

For whatever reason my acceptance rate at fotolia is in line or better than other agencies - wonder if there is some Euro cultural bias? You are right rejection reasons are useless but then I forget rejections and move on
