Stocksy / Re: Bruce, Our Knight in Shining Armor? Stocksy Co-op
« on: February 09, 2013, 11:23 »
I don't share the excitement about stocksy that was commonly expressed on the first pages of this thread.

I mean I have no problems to believe in good intentions and good payment share - but getting the buyers is difficult these days. Looking at the smaller agencies; and looking at the 2ns attempt of Stockxpert guys I don't have much optimism about the possible future of stocksy.

I would be glad to be wrong with that expectation :)

my personal stats talking to image buyers is very low - i.e. still in line with "nobody knows for sure" above - but those few buyers I ever talked to had between mentioned using between 1 and 3 sites (e.g. one of my neighbours uses Fotolia and Dreamstime).

So it seems that selling in 10-20 different sites we sell to different groups of buyers most of the time... But again, this isn't proven.

Sarah - it was explained just a few posts above:

<...>
To use the iStock interface, bring up an image's page and at the bottom is an Administration link. Deactivate is there (you can't delete; only deactivate). You need to put in a reason so have something to paste.

My reason is I'm opting out of special "licensing" deals the only way you've left open to me
However installing Greasemonkey and the script is very easy, very fast, and doesn't have any impact on your browsing other internet page.

The deactivation spread sheet is very nice... except it shows me pledging only 10.  I've deactivated 26 at istock (plus 327 at stockexpert) so far.  Will do more on Feb 2nd.

Providing an opt out would be a smart business decision.  I hope Getty eventually realizes this.

Thanks for the update.  So then yours should say 353?  I will pass it along to Marina :)
yes nice sheet - shows 1 for me that I deleted - but I aim to remove around 200 on the 2nd (not removing my entire port yet )

just found about Sean's script - deleted 1 so far to try the script.
Plan to remove more on 2-Feb.

I am using Bamboo Pen & Touch myself (CTH-461 model) for photo retouching and I am very happy with it. Got a "refurbished" one from Wacom web site - was a great deal as it came in original packaging without any evidence of previous use - and with a great discount. Use it for about 1.5 years now.

(I used to use a Genius one before which has similar specs on paper but is a very different feeling - I like Wacom much better)

theprint is his iStock user name, in case you can't match real world name with member name. He is apparently not in any hurry to get his portfolio up on other sites.

MichaelJay, formerly of the former Berlin office, has also dropped his crown. To be precise, both of them have started their 30 day clock although the crown isn't yet gonzo.

This says it all, really.  I suspect these guys would never have given up their crowns if they had any hope that Istock would return to its former self.

Not sure if it means much really as he isn't involved with microstock lately (according to his own blog his interest is with some other projects, and his most recent upload is from 2010)

I don't see a reason for myself to be anonymous.

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Review time?
« on: September 17, 2012, 04:41 »
I mentioned it in another Canstock thread - my previous upload was awaiting for ~12 days until it was reviewed. I did open support ticket Duncan confirmed that he didn't see anything special/wrong.

Now my next batch is pending since 09-Sep...

At the same other many other contributors report fast review times.

My only guess is that some reviewers pick up some batches for review and then forget about them....

There have been several similar mistakes reported in Russia in the last couple of years; e.g. for materials related to the Victory Day (in World War II) the pictures of German tanks and soldiers were used instead of Soviet ones (and Germany was the enemy of USSR then); and a few occasions that American soldiers were shown.

Same story with cheap microstock pictures and careless uneducated designers...

Software - General / Re: 32 bit or 64 bit software
« on: September 13, 2012, 06:12 »
having hi-res multi-layer files, 64 bit version of photoshop allows to use more than 3GB of RAM which is a significant advantage.

I just upload same files as to microstock, with keywords in IPTC. Just copy paste the first few keywords to essential keywords field

General Stock Discussion / Re: Mayor sites going down
« on: September 13, 2012, 04:31 »
Nevertheless I see a switch in mentality at least in South america and People start to buy more at Agencies. However, SA is dwarf compared to Asia.
I believe SA was already much better than Asia in that respect for several years at least. When Stockexpert existed, they said Brazil was their second largest buyer after the US (along with Germany)...

My pending images are fairly generic, no special copyrighted words. Reported via support ticket, Duncan confirmed he is checking it.

is it normal these days to wait for more than 2 weeks for images review at CS? I remember it used to a few hours some time ago...

if he completely stopped uploading it sounds like a clear marketing u-turn to me and i'm sure he did the math on this.
Nope, not at all. Yuri has mentioned several times in 2011 that his sales isn't growing anymore. If sales doesn't grow despite active upload it's certainly worth to explore something different - and keep only uploading a minimum sufficient to keep the sales from declining.

25
In general I upload all photos everywhere - but acceptance is different, and low earners get less of my attention thus fewer of my photos.

Video goes to pond5 and shutterstock and fotolia. Tried istock but it takes too much effort and not worth it for me. Only pond5 makes notable sales - but my video portfolio is tiny with +/- 30 clips only.
