iStockPhoto.com / Re: March downloads are up« on: April 17, 2024, 10:38 »Same in my case - this could be due to the fact that this April (March settlement) the 'Price per Image' is missing, which usually always comes in April as a 'big blue bar' in the chart. Why would they leave out 'Price per Image'? 3
iStockPhoto.com / Illustrators, how often does the Reviewer ask you to prove you created something« on: March 29, 2024, 14:38 »
I just spent much of today re-upping a couple dozen or so submissions along with screenshots & comments in order to prove that I did, indeed, create each one of my submissions. Seems like whenever I add a texture to an image, I'm asked to prove that I created the texture.
Out of curiosity, I wonder how often this typically happens to other illustrators we have in this forum. How often are you asked to send screenshots to prove your works are original? FYI -- I'm not complaining, as I understand istock needs to know our works are our own. But I'm just wondering ... 4

Well, in my case, it's showing Royalties for February but NOT the Downloads. I WOULD appreciate knowing my Downloads.
Royalties were slightly better than normal. 6

Just a note for those with faulty memories, NO it's not usually reported on the 20th. From the official site: "Royalty Statements are published on the 20th of each month. You will see what you have sold and what you have earned and can download that data." Good Post ... 7

iStockPhoto.com / Different images were downloaded this month« on: February 17, 2024, 19:29 »
Checking the images downloaded in January, I noticed lots of images that are not usually sold ... it's almost like there was a shake-up in the search functionality.

I suspect this is just temporary ... but it's WAY OFF.

Adobe Stock / Re: This is highly unprofessional« on: October 20, 2023, 14:34 »The annoying part is the batch rejection, its not like just one of 2 images are rejected like the good days, now a whole batch of 25 will be rejected. It is as if the reviewer rejects one image so rejects all 25, no other logical reason. The same thing happened to me a few years ago. 18 images - all different kinds - many of which have always been accepted over the years - all 18 were rejected. I had included a few in an entirely new style for me, that I suspect the reviewer didn't like them so rejected the whole batch. Ever since then, I have uploaded one image per batch at a time. It is much more time-consuming, but it's something I have to do to prevent the arbitrary rejections you discuss above. 14
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Keyword added to my photo without my knowledge« on: October 19, 2023, 15:48 »
Just to be clear, Sue ... does this mean that keywords not in the Controlled Vocabulary but that you have included in your submission, are in fact still attached to the image, even though they are not visible? 15
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Keyword added to my photo without my knowledge« on: October 17, 2023, 09:35 »Actually, Ive just thought of something. There could be a reason why the keyword 'animal' was added to my photo of a tree. Previously, I had made the mistake of adding 'fauna' to the metadata when I meant to add 'flora.' It's super rare when I make those kinds of mistakes though yea I was going to try and correct that after submission (with another support ticket.) So I wonder if the inclusion of the word 'fauna' triggered some automatic word generator to add 'animal' there as well. I think you may have found the answer to why "animal" was added to your image. istock will from time to time substitute one keyword for another. Just today for example, on one of my accepted images, I had included the keywords "alien planet" and istock replaced it with "fictional planet" ... that kind of thing is pretty common, and is part of their Controlled Vocabulary. 16
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Keyword added to my photo without my knowledge« on: October 16, 2023, 17:07 »
Quite often, I will notice keywords added that I had not included, but they usually make sense. In fact, I pick up new keywords for my Lightroom Keyword List by studying these new keywords.
Also, istockphoto nearly always adds "no people", horizontal or vertical, and USA to my images, where appropriate. But, again, the keyword additions they make to my images usually make sense. To add "animals" to an image that doesn't have animals in it ... is a mistake. It may not make any difference to the popularity of your image, however. But you can always contact istockphoto and ask them to remove it and see what they do. Just my two cents. 17
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Question about Exclusive at istockphoto« on: October 12, 2023, 09:31 »You have to apply for Exclusivity for each separate media - photography, illustration and video. You must have just applied for photography. Thank you for enlightening me ... 18

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Question about Exclusive at istockphoto« on: October 11, 2023, 08:38 »Did you apply for exclusivity for both photos and illustrations? At that time, I just signed up for Exclusivity ... and it's likely that I wasn't uploading illustrations at that time. I didn't realize you have to apply for both. So, can I apply for Illustrations now? 20
iStockPhoto.com / Question about Exclusive at istockphoto« on: October 10, 2023, 17:06 »
I went Exclusive at istockphoto the moment it became an option.
However, they have never made my Illustrations exclusive ... Illustrations have remained non-exclusive all these years. Does anyone have an explanation for this? Most of my portfolio is photos, but about 1,500 or so are Illustrations. 21
iStockPhoto.com / Re: How common is it for istock to delete files?« on: August 19, 2023, 11:24 »Yes,it is common practice for Istock to destroy people's years of work That may very well be, but in my case, as I state above, the 200 missing images miraculously appeared yesterday. Likely, the problem was a glitch in the system. I'm sorry you have had such bad luck at istockphoto. And hope you have found a new home for your portfolio. 22

iStockPhoto.com / Re: How common is it for istock to delete files?« on: August 18, 2023, 16:27 »
OK ... so this is really strange. I just checked my portfolio after the day's update, and my number is up to 4,952. The 200 seem to be added back. wow
Probably a glitch in the system. However, it is sort of shocking and actually demoralizing to see your portfolio reduced by 200 overnight with no explanation. Guess I've gotta be grateful it's fixed Thanks for the replies, guys. 24
iStockPhoto.com / How common is it for istock to delete files?« on: August 18, 2023, 13:48 »
It seems that whenever I get close to 5,000 in my portfolio, istock swoops in and deletes a whole bunch of my images. How common is it for them to delete files ... this time I had about 4,910 images and overnight it changed to 4,710.
How common is it for them to do this? 25
iStockPhoto.com / Re: July 2023 financial statements are in« on: August 16, 2023, 15:39 »... however I am getting a high amount of image rejections on iStock and barely any rejections on other sites. I am mostly submitting digitally rendered abstract fractal backgrounds and the rejections tend to be for the reason that there isnt a clear concept or narrative element. These rejections seem to be very inconsistent and subjective depending on the reviewer. My abstract images that make it through iStock review are selling well, however the rate of rejections is one reason Im holding back from exclusivity at the moment. This may just be me, but it seems that I have more problems on weekends with my uploaded illustrations. So much so that I now stop uploading images after Friday mornings and only start again on Monday mornings to avoid issues that weekend reviewers give me. |
