Looks like iStock has a new model release that does not require a witness signature. The policy of agencies in the past has been to accept model releases from other agencies. I wonder if AS, SS etc. will accept the new "witness not required" release from Getty/iStock?
Also, will the other agencies drop "witnesses" from their future release requirements?

Would the electronic 1099 be on the "contributor account" -> "Tax Information page" ?

Stating the obvious, but as a contributor 10 cent royalties on a sale are near worthless. The only thing that generates any kind of income are the relatively sparse sales that provide two orders of magnitude greater royalties. I wonder for SS how this maps out? In other words if SS only income was from the packages they sold (that generate 10 cent royalties for us) how much would their revenue decline percentage-wise?...would it be equivalently devastating to SS bottom line?

Yesterday I received my istock statement for December.
On istock, December 2021 was my best month since March 2017. RPD was $1.33 which was exactly the same as Adobe. For comparison: At shutterstock, the RPD in December was $0.66 - despite level 5. For the first time, istock was in 2nd place for me after Adobe - well ahead of shutterstock.
Similar experience in that SS seems to be fading compared to AS and iS.

I've had images sold within 5 mins of uploading (the breaking news kind)
The next future Yuri! You need to tell us your secrets
Keyword beforehand, shoot, take out laptop, run to nearest cafe and upload...earn!
It's fun but pitiful earnings for the work involved.
That's the problem right now and for editorial video as well, I can't justify the mobile data even as the earnings are so low, If I shoot something I'll upload it later but I don't even take the laptop with me anymore, in 2018 I practically had a whole ENG news setup with me.
Plus you still have to wait for the inspection time.

Yes, I have seen similar trends. Adobe is not far off from being the dollar leader.....and that's with Adobe yet to accept Editorial still content with people and no editorial video content!

Yes, I agree as well. Adobe is on an upward trajectory!

Thanks. I don't understand (and this applies to all agencies) why payouts (at least paypal) are not a totally automated affair.

There are a few others. Adobe premium, Offset, Pond5 setting your prices (basically for video),FilmSupply, plainpicture,...
Everest, 'As suggested I think it is much wiser move to medium or macro stock'
I am only aware of Stocksy, Arcangel and Trevillion which I assume are 'macro' stock.
Do you know of any others, and which ones are 'medium' stock?
Thanks.
There is no anecdotal data on these sites. Yes, they charge more for images, but how much do contributors make compared to: - the "glory days of stock" say 25 years ago? - the "glory days of microstock" say 10+ years ago?

Not a surprise. They have not listened or responded to the contributers for a long time. They were regarded as a pain, who might want to challenge their perceived wisdom. Who wants to listen to the truth when you are trying to rule the world. It's comparable to a country banning independent media.
They have a plan, believe me. Contributors will see 5 cent royalties, then penny royalties and fraction royalties replacing the 10 cent royalties that used to be 38 cent royalties. I'm not talking about the one-offs that happen now. I am stating outright that the volume downloads, like we used to see with the 38 cent ones will evolve into fractions of a penny. This last major move was only step one. They will let the dust settle, then drop another bomb.
Yes, from their viewpoint there is no reason not to keep reducing payouts

It would be interesting to know quantitatively how much the top stock producers earn for a given agency. For example, say the top 100 contributors earned the agency 50% of their revenue. In that example, they could form a united coalition that could actually have a say on pricing and royalty percentages. The question is how many of the "top earners" would it take to combine and form the beginnings of a stock producer coalition who would be able to yield power over the agency?
There is this one. I don't know how successful they have been ....
https://www.microstockgroup.com/general-stock-discussion/documents-filed-for-official-stock-coalition-organization/msg555660/#msg555660
I guess my point or question was how many "top tier" contributors would it take to apply pressure to the agencies.

For me leaving Shutterstock gave very quickly more sales on Adobe Stock so for me yes without a doubt.
Yup, SS has nothing from me that isn't at least a year old. AS increasing. Am on my best rolling 12 months ever and have been doing this since 2006. But I guess all these people are raking it in hand over fist giving their work around to any site that will have them
So just to be clear, are you folks claiming that your overall stock income went up when you left SS or that leaving SS increased your sales on AS?

What would not be good, for contributors anyway, is for their income to go up without ours also going up by a similar percentage.
Hmmmm. Gotta wonder what the odds of that might be. Pretty high, mesuspects.
it won't go up. They are scrambling to keep finding new ways each year to keep shareholders and Wall Street happy. Eventually the milk will run dry. There's only so much juice to the squeeze. I can see them going down the route that for every 10 images sold you'll get a nickel. And people will upload for that.
Yes, unfortunately, the downtrend continues. But one does have to ask the question, at what point will the source of high production value/cost (strong models in proper wardrobe and locations etc.) dry up? When the money isn't there anymore, it just won't make financial sense be to produce this type of imagery.

Mat, Thanks that helps....but it would sure be nice if all contributors could submit all editorial content

I recently had several editorial images rejected...not a big deal. The rejection I believe is likely because the photos were "news oriented" even though there weren't people in all of the ones rejected
However, the "Illustrative Editorial Guidelines" seem to be a bit contradictory. In one paragraph it is stated:
"We are looking for imagery intended to illustrate articles on current events and news, focused on conceptual imagery using real brands and products to convey strong ideas."
Then a few sentences later it states:
"The most common cases for rejection from that collection are:
- The file includes identifiable people. - The file is news or documentary editorial. - The file did not have a strong editorial concept."
It is a bit confusing: "We are looking for imagery intended to illustrate articles on current events and news" vs. "...common cases for rejection...- The file is news or documentary editorial"
Seems to say imagery for current events and news is wanted and then says news is reason for rejection?
Can we have some clarification?
Thanks

For what it's worth, here's my take on the free-downloads trend including the Adobe Stock Upfront Royalty Payment Opportunity over at the Xpiks blog:

Just read your take....but can you explain in what way do you expect the storm to "finally clear"?

To state the sad obvious, investors will love this. Making more money and lowering costs (royalties) However, I do believe that ultimately this will impact the quality of what they are delivering to their customers....fewer and fewer contributors will generate quality work as the payout continues to decline.

You could actually extend the argument and say does a customer really need to have an exact specific image or would they just look for the cheapest image that satisfied their needs?

I love it when forum specialists rant on about the US taxation system on a forum that has nothing to do with the IRS.
...but it does: Interested in Royalties for Stock
