iStockPhoto.com / Re: 82 refunds in the past hour
« on: January 31, 2013, 05:25 »
As it says on the tin,

Manage to get through to speak to someone in contributor relations, (must of been a bit of a shock for them to actually talk to the lowly contributor that they feed off, but hey ho) she told me that  $1000 fraudulent transactions in an hour, is the risk that I take for selling online, I might have been a bit curt, after all, I am their client, they make money from me. I pay them 65% on every sale to market and protect my work.

posted this in the forums

I am exclusive here for you to protect my work, you make 65% on every sale to protect my work, I had to call you to inform you that $1000 of sales in the past hour might be a tad suspicious, along with giving work away to Google, what exactly do you do to justify your percentage?

One snotty illiterate email from them later, and I am banned from the forums.

I was a loyal exclusive, ( I know, stupid)

(edited to remove some of the rage)

Another BIG + for working SS.... they NEVER refund. We pay the commission and they deliver/protect us. If is committed any fraud we... the contributors don't have any fault.

123RF / Re: How is your sales?
« on: January 31, 2013, 04:09 »
My sales MTD is only about half of what it used to be. Wondering if it is just a January thing, just my port or are they hurting a bit? How is your sales so far?

Mine are good... my 4th earner ( after SS, FT, DT and waaaay ahead of DepositPhotos) with monthly payments.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Acceptance Ratio... does SS care
« on: January 30, 2013, 13:30 »
The days of mining a hard drive are over. Shoot for stock..........
To get any significant income you need to get a much higher acceptance rate. 25% is terribly low.

Start creating stock images, stop scraping your HD

Last bunches of images shoot with shallow DOF were all accepted on SS. It's some time since last ''focus'' rejection.

here is an example ( with lowered IQ)

Envato / Re: Envato Marketplace License Updates
« on: January 23, 2013, 02:31 »
BIG QUESTION:

The guy that used somebody else images ( i remember the... windmills at sunset, Christmas decorated room, beach and the ocean) and incorporated in his own stock design HAS MADE THE IMAGES LEGIT??? Course if he bought an EL from Envato??????????????????

You are talking about SS ( if they rise the commissions to the contributors at 45-50%)

Hello,

We are receiving inquiries from exclusives who are interested in joining Shutterstock.

We have created a direct email address, [email protected], to guide them through the signup and approval process.

When contributors create a Shutterstock account via submit.shutterstock.com, they are asked to submit 10 images for review. If a contributor is leaving exclusivity to submit to Shutterstock, we ask that they write a note to the reviewer mentioning their exclusive status with a link to their portfolio.

Lastly, please review the terms of your exclusivity to make sure that you are not breaching your agreement.

Please direct any questions to the above email address.

Thanks and Regards,

Another hard blow for istock  ;D ;D ;D

The ripping of the contributors must stop eventually. Like in nature... adapt or die. Seems like IS choose to die.

R.I.P. - istock... You were a good friend in the past

Oh sorry I got the wrong end of the stick!

I think "the stockies" is a good informal name, but the formal name needs to be something like the Annual Microstock Group Industry Awards IMHO. Especially if the agencies are going to take them seriously.

ETA or the Annual Microstock Group Contributor Awards?

''Annual Microstock Group Industry Awards'' sounds good.

I believe the agencies will take this seriously ... eventually. MSG is growing bit by bit every day....

The criteria to be able to vote in the categories: to be a member of MSG and to prove you are a non exclusive contributor ; ex. share a link to at least 2 agencies where you contribute ( a non visible  to the general public, only to MSG admins for inspection).

General Stock Discussion / Re: Shutter back to Normal
« on: January 17, 2013, 01:17 »
It appears that the images have been put back in order before the change last week thus normal business hours for us...

looks like, I have lost more than 100th places (now into the second page when I was on the beginning of the 1st) and I would say around 50 sales lost and this way I will lose a few more, cheers SS ;D

Like Oringer says on his blog... there are over 20 million photo on the site.... every contributor must have his chance.  ;)

193
It's good idea. It may not be insignificant for agencies - if I remember well - last year Shutterstock announced on their blog (or Twitter?? - don't remember exactly) that they are proud that they are best selling agency according to Tyler's MS Survey.

So.... MSG has a word to say... not bad.... not bad at all  ;)

194
Imagine Tyler handing the Golden Raspberry microstock equivalent Award  to the Istock representatives....  ;D ;D ;D

General Stock Discussion / Re: Yearly Stock awards?
« on: January 15, 2013, 04:55 »
How about we create MSG yearly awards for the stock sites voted for by users of the forum?
Most improved site
Best new tools for contributors
Top curators (for keeping the collection clean)
Best content (for good reviews)
Contributors' choice award
etc.

And maybe some raspberry awards:
Worst upload
Biggest cheapskate
Worst copyright protection
etc.

With little badges for the winners to display (though I doubt stockberry winners will want to display their badge of shame)

This isn't a change the world idea, just a bit of fun that could stimulate discussion and let the sites know what we like about each of them (for those that care)

good idea.

Image Sleuth / Re: Facebook Page using stolen photos

Romania? Again?! What kind of 'one legged'-company is behind this fraud  >:(

i personally found dozens of sites using my images ( and i got only 2.3k ) illegally. Guess what?... the majority were from Asia, US and Australia. Not even one from Europe ( don't mention Romania).

I don't try to blame somebody here.... just try to point out that the image theft is a world wide practice regardless of the country or continent ...
