Alamy.com / Re: Alamy sale for 7 cents

Same here. I am still waiting for my first Alamy sale of 2022. At least I haven't had anymore of those tiny micro sales from China and Germany since Christmas.

Off Topic / Re: New Scam or Old one?
February 05, 2022, 19:29
I have had scam attempts from loads of places pretending to be from Amazon (saying my account would be locked) banks I don't even bank with and even HMRC (UK income tax) the latter saying I could claim a substantial tax rebate of over £600.
This kind of thing is so common that HMRC even have a dedicated section who deal with attempted scams. Needless to say I didn't fall for any of the scams but I can't help wondering how many people do.

January 26, 2022, 18:59
I was always apprehensive about the SOD sales as there is no way of knowing exactly how they are being licensed. I didn't mind too much at first as they were usually a good price, often much better than ELs which they seem to have replaced. But I have noticed that  I get mostly less than a dollar for them now with the odd rare exception and I too have had a few of the 10 cent ones. I, for one was much happier with the old system where you knew what you were getting for each type of license.

Is everyone sure that these tiny sales are distributor sales, they do not show up as minus the distributor's cut on my account or don't they bother showing it when the amounts are so tiny.
I am only asking because I would like to be sure before I opt out of all distributor sales as I have had some reasonably large sales in the past (even after distributor and Alamy share have been deducted)

I just saw seven today, I can't be bothered wasting time to check but if I remember rightly I had some of these sales last year which were subsequently refunded.

I was a bit surprised to see SS advertising discount prices for Adobe videos today.

I shoot mostly landscapes in the UK, farmland mostly and you would not believe how many times farmers have stopped and asked me "are you from the ministry?" Gamekeepers too often ask what I am up to which is fair enough.

Got mine yesterday which is slightly earlier than usual but have always received payment well before 15th of every month.

Not forgetting that most members of government are part of or have shares in the big corporations anyway.

I have just emailed them to ask if it is possible to delete my chosen files from the new scheme (opt out) without deleting them from the whole site.
I can't speak for anyone else's images but the chosen ones of mine are, deservedly or not, ones which have rarely if ever sold. I am wondering if this is a way of encouraging us to shed some of the "dead wood" from the site by getting us to delete poor selling images. I am also a bit suspicious that this may be a trial which might lead to the whole commission system being changed.
I am hoping, but not necessarily expecting clarification soon.

Just a thought but have you submitted and had approved the correct tax forms?
#37
I guess the only way to find out if deleted files are still actually being sold is to try and purchase one.
I was playing around with looking for my images online today and still found active links to my pictures on the supposedly closed featurepics site.

Martha, that sums up exactly my position. Very disappointing that by the time I retire, which isn't that far away, I will have very little income from my portfolio to supplement my pension.

Yes, through Paypal in UK

Thanks for the info, I have just requested pay out to be on the safe side. Never had a lot of sales there but at least didn't feel so insulted by the prices.
#41
I still don't see anything about Featurepics closing on Google.
Could you point me to where you saw the info.
Thanks.
#42
Are they definitely closing. I don't see anything on their website.

SS "the revised schedule consisted of weekly resets (every Sunday at midnight)."

So the AI people head shots are going to be licensed as commercial some day, and we won't need to pay models anymore? Maybe CGI everything will replace photographers?

Probably would but who could afford the tech at microstock prices

Microstock has changed so much since I first started in 2010. If images are deemed to be LCV due to having less popular subjects or styles and the agencies now only want hugely popular done to death subjects where will buyers go to find the rest. Just a thought.

Not going to help income when On Demand (not SOD) are paying as little as $0.45

Silence can speak volumes,I wouldn't bet on us getting anything.

Pond5 / Re: Pricing photos on P5
June 07, 2020, 16:27
I originally had my photos set at $15 but some time ago they had a promotion where they sold at less than the set price so I put mine up to $20 to compensate. Don't get many sales but when I do at least it doesn't feel like I am being robbed.

So glad we have this forum, I read the latest post and it prompted me to check my settings, turned out I had forgotten to hit save when I disabled my images. Another 7500 images disabled.
