Nice job on Monaco - Monte Carlo. Having lived there for a few years I know the days when Matisse enjoyed the beautiful air of Southern France are long gone.  Thanks for bringing back those days with your tutorial.

Right, I wish I could use Content Aware Fill on my wallet to pay for the upgrade. . . . . .

Same here, also BigStock

Same here.  Normally I am not a conspiracy freak but over the last few months 3 sites did a make over at the same time and now BS and DT are out at the same time . . . . . . . what does it all mean?

edit: Now they are both on line at the same time . . . . OMG

Thanks for the report LEAF . . . you where asking it to perform miracles on that figure, in fact it did better than I expected.  I am sure it is an improvement over the older version.  I do use the spot healing tool all the time to remove those pesty bunnies in the sky.

It is slow if you add file by file. But you can add entire folders and then it's fast to do.
Thanks. Yes I made a temp folder with a copy of the uploads and that is a nice workaround. Whatever works...
It's a bit annoying to me that for adding license, release info etc I need to do it one by one and can't to altogether - but again as I can do it with a large group of uploaded pics I don't feel it's a big deal...
I guess you just have to click "has release", since I found no place to upload the release itself.
Another point is the "free German translation" of the keywords. How long does it take? Can we check it somewhere?

No real reason to create a temp folder, just load the needed folder and on the right side right click the file you don't want and select "delete file".

My experience with the process of uploading with Zoonar Media Manager was without any problems.  I did have a question for Michael concerning the Partner Sites which he answered within a few hours. You have two alternatives:

Polylooks & APIS/Picturemaxx

or

Fotofinder & APIS/Picturemaxx

Polylooks is a traditional micro sites where the images are RF where as Fotofinder is a macro site. I have my licenced images now with them through Zoonar.

As to Editorial images, you have to set the release to is not available

Alamy.com / Re: I got first sale on Alamy
« on: March 31, 2010, 17:04 »
Congratulations Goldenangel!  Feels good when you make a large sale there :)

I just had my first $5.00 sale at Alamy, of which I get $2.  It was through one of their distribution partnerships.  I didn't even know you COULD get such small sales on Alamy.  Feels like micro to me...

I have good news and bad news about how low a sale can be.  I had my first sale a few months ago for "Novel Use" giving me a super total of 50 cent!  The good news is last week I had my second sale for $491 with my take at $196.

yes, I am happy.

Question for both of you:

Is your portfolio the same on both Alamy and Microstock, or do you have different images on each?

Kone

KB . . . Thanks for the info.  I new "Novel Use" would go at a reduced price but was suprised at the 50 cent return.  I will use your suggestion if there arn't better results.

KONE . . .  my Alamy port. is around 70% unique.

I submitted many hand painted images and in the beginning realized that IS wanted a property release . . .  so, I gave them one and it has been worth the extra trouble.

One .30 sale with 300 online.

Funny that a lot of submitters have just recently scored their first one or two sales.  What does that mean, maybe that the site is starting to get traction . . .  or . . . . . .

This brings me back to that Ken Rockwell article (someone here posted this a while back) about his Trade Marked Idea of "The Real Raw".  Yeap, film is the "Real" Raw format . . . . . . omg.

My third party sales (for the fourth quarter of 2009) have been reported today, a bit less than Q3 2009 but still ok.
Those sales make it worthwhile staying there, it pushes Yay before 123RF and Bigstock for me.

The way I would try is to duplicate the Blue Channel in the Channel Pallete.  Use the Curves on this channel to increase contrast. Control click on this channel to make a selection.  Use that selection to make a mask with whatever technigue you want to use to remove the dirt.  You would have to clean up the mask with White and Black but that is fast. Run a blur on the mask if needed. You could even use it on a layer with a color gradient, sampling that darker blue at the bottom and the lighter blue at the top.

This would not be the easiest way but as a tutorial it would introduce more concepts and possibilities.

General Stock Discussion / Re: The Blame Game
« on: March 04, 2010, 06:03 »
When all is said and done it is the buyer who decides who has their finger on the Zeitgeist of commercial imagery.  Those who are successful are successful for that reason and that will always be a truism, no matter what competition exists.  As to the value of this craft, well, when you invite the world to compete then the premium for exclusiveness is eliminated.  Thats the microstock concept . . . . like it or not.

But what must be frustrating is the copying of someone's point of view or concept.  Years ago I had a one man show of my paintings in New York.  Some other artist copied  one of my works,  the next month it was on the cover of Art In America (the artist obviously had financial backers since that is the easiest was to get on the cover of an important magazine), I was not pleased.

Like an old dog I hate learning new tricks.  Yes, I like the "less is more" look but where can I see my portfolio and status of recently submitted images?

492
so what is the problem of being a newbie? like I have always read from pros, is they saying that are building up a good and saleable portfolio!..

the problem with newbies is that they should stick to Flickr instead of polluting the pro's market
with their tiny portfolios.

pros and competition is more than welcome, but we should close the door to the horde of
1000s of newbies with 30-40 photos each.

and about learning : after a long time you reach a point where you know exactly what you're doing
so where's the problem in proving a few hundreds image to apply with an agency ?

there's nothing wrong in being a newbie, just don't dream of selling photos.
that's something pro do, not newbies.

Now aren't you setting the bar a bit low. Isn't the final goal of any Photographer to have a one man show in a fancy Soho Photogrpahy Gallery selling a print for $5000 (with or without art groupies), or the cover of Vogue?

Its good to have aspirations, n'est pas

Its like "Waiting For Godot", in one year I have had one third party sale for 8.72 euro.  Waiting, waiting . .  waiting . . . . . .  wa  . . . . . . . . .

I think someone in this thread asked for a definition of "newbie".

Here are some characteristic to recognize a "newbie":

1. They are microstock cheerleaders telling everyone how great this business is.
2. They still earn $0.25  at Shutterstock
3. They support Thinkstock.  And of course, they think $0.25 is ok!
4. They do not yet qualify to be IS exclusive.  Even though it's only 250 images required.
5. They celebrate every single sale they make.
6. They make statistics with small numbers.

What else? Mmm... Ah!

7. They get angry when they read something they don't like.

 :)

Pretty true, but for "They celebrate every single sale they make".  Like any drug you do need more and more. I mean, I need at least 3-4 a day to get me off!

And you my friend, no link to portflio . . . .?

StockXpert.com / Re: just wondering about the big "6"

Yeah, I think it would be a good idea to rename it the "big 4" and drop 123 into the "up and coming" and Canstock into the "low earners". (Sorry, Duncan, I like you but CS never delivered).

Also, for how many years can you be "up and coming"?  I really don't know how long some of these sites have been around.  If 123RF has been around for 3-4 years then the "coming" is misleading.  It has had its change to arrive but, at least for me, it hasn't.  Now Veer deserves the "coming" label.

I am brand new to stock and thought I would submit to the big 6 listed on the right. I can't seem to find a way to upload to Stockxpert!

 ;) ;D ;)

Stockxpert folded recently, do a search and you will find all the unhappy details from other threads.

or are you pulling our legs . . . . .
